About China Wok Express

Welcome to China Wok Express, a Chinese restaurant located at 6544 Manchester Ave in St. Louis, Missouri. As a Chinese Restaurant within the platform category, China Wok Express aims to provide the local community with a range of Chinese dishes, catering to both takeout and potentially dine-in customers.

Based on recent customer feedback, there are several important aspects to consider when thinking about China Wok Express. One significant issue raised by a customer involves discrepancies between the online menu and the in-store menu. This customer reported that upon visiting the restaurant after finding it on Google and viewing an online menu, they discovered that the prices for menu items in the store were almost triple what was listed online. When this pricing difference was questioned, the customer encountered a negative attitude from the staff member behind the counter. This inconsistency between online and in-store information and the subsequent customer service experience are important points for potential customers to be aware of.

Regarding the food itself, the reviews offer a mixed perspective. The same customer who noted the menu discrepancies mentioned that while they did not recommend the crab rangoon, the shrimp and pork fried rice and the chicken wings were good. This suggests that the quality of different dishes may vary, with some being more satisfactory than others.

Another customer shared their experience with a larger order consisting of half shrimp fried rice, one full order of special fried rice, and an order of crab rangoon. They expressed surprise at the total cost, which was nearly $30. Upon inspecting the full order of special fried rice, they initially found a generous amount of meat, vegetables, and other ingredients on top. However, after mixing the contents, they discovered that approximately 80% of the dish was rice, with a proportionally small amount of the other ingredients. The final result was described as a bland and dull version of special fried rice. The quality of the shrimp fried rice was reported to be similar.

This second review also indicates a perceived decline in the quality of food and a significant increase in prices over several years of patronage at this location. This suggests a potential trend that long-term customers have observed, leading at least one to decide to seek alternative options for Chinese cuisine in the future.

The reviews provide limited information about the environment of China Wok Express. The mention of a man and woman behind the counter suggests a possibly small, family-run establishment. The primary focus of the feedback is on the food and the pricing/menu accuracy, rather than the ambiance or decor of a dine-in area. Therefore, it is difficult to provide a detailed description of the restaurant's atmosphere based on the available information.

In terms of services, China Wok Express appears to primarily cater to takeout orders, although the possibility of dine-in is not explicitly excluded. The interaction described in the first review took place at the counter, implying an order-at-the-counter service model, which is common for express-style Chinese restaurants. The availability of a phone number, (314) 781-8188 or +1 314-781-8188, indicates that phone orders are likely accepted for pickup.

Features of China Wok Express, based on the limited information, include its location on Manchester Avenue in St. Louis, making it accessible to the local community. The menu offers standard Chinese dishes, including fried rice variations, crab rangoon, and chicken wings. However, the reliability of the online menu's pricing and the consistency of food quality appear to be areas of concern based on recent customer experiences.

Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers or discounts at China Wok Express. For local users interested in potential specials, it would be best to contact the restaurant directly via phone or inquire in person. Checking local online platforms or delivery apps might also reveal any current promotions if they are offered.

In conclusion, China Wok Express in St. Louis, MO, is a Chinese restaurant that has received mixed reviews from recent customers. A significant concern has been raised regarding the accuracy of online menus compared to in-store pricing, coupled with a negative customer service interaction when this was questioned. While some dishes, like the shrimp and pork fried rice and chicken wings, were reported to be good by one customer, another found the special fried rice to be overwhelmingly rice with bland flavor, and both customers expressed disappointment with the crab rangoon in one instance. There is also a suggestion of declining food quality and increasing prices over time. Potential customers should be aware of these recent experiences, particularly the issues with menu discrepancies and food quality consistency, when considering China Wok Express for their Chinese food needs. It may be prudent to verify pricing and perhaps inquire about the preparation of specific dishes before placing an order.

We found this place on Google & looked at an online menu. When we got there, the menu items/prices that are listed online are almost tripled. It was only a man & woman behind the counter, the lady got an attitude because I questioned the menu pricing online vs the menu pricing in store. 🙄 I don't recommend the crab rangoon but the shrimp/pork fried rice & chicken wings were good.

I ordered 1/2 shrimp fried rice, 1 full order special fried rice, and order crab rangoon. I was somewhat surprised at the cost nearly $30. I got home and opened the full special fried rice and saw all the meat, vegetables and goodies on top! H I wever, when I poured the entire contents on a plate, I discovered approximately 80% rice. I removed the excess and mixed all together. The result was sadly a very bland dull version of special fried rice. The shrimp fried rice was similar in quality. We have been to this location numerous times over the last several years and have seen a gradual slide downward in quality and big increase in price. I'll be looking elsewhere from now on.

Just ordered the General Tso's for lunch and it Must have been the worst Chinese I've ever had... chicken was huge super chewy chunks. Rice had almost no flavor and crab raccoons were terrible... I seriously threw it away and made a turkey sandwich at home instead. Worst $28 ever spent. Go to STL kitchen by the Schnucks in maplewood for your Chinese instead. You won't be disappointed.

TASTES LIKE RUBBER,THREW WHOLE PLATE AWAY 🙅🏻‍♂️ The whole meal was over priced in my opinion. After taking a few bites I was disappointed to say the least (even the egg roll tasted like rubber) I called them immediately asking for a refund the owner responded saying she would only give credit or remake order. So that’s kind of lame since the food was so inedible (plastic and synthetic tasting). Obviously I wouldn’t want more if it’s not good. - I think places like these stay open because people from the surrounding area are used to eating low income trash and don’t know what real food should taste like. I will not be ordering again. Cost : $13 Edit: added price
