About China Town Buffet
China Town Buffet, located at 330 Riverwood Dr #1, Bismarck, ND 58504, USA, offers a Chinese buffet experience to its patrons. The restaurant can be reached by phone at (701) 222-1688 or via mobile at +1 701-222-1688.
As a Chinese restaurant and buffet, China Town Buffet positions itself within the local dining scene by offering a wide array of choices to its customers. The emphasis appears to be on providing a large quantity of food options, which is a common characteristic of buffet-style establishments. However, the quality of these offerings, as reflected in customer feedback, is a point of concern for some.
Regarding the environment, some customers have described the interior of China Town Buffet as "pretty dark and dingy." Specific observations include grease marks on the side of walls in booths and a general perception of uncleanliness. This perception extends to other areas, with mentions of dirty windows, bathroom stalls, and floors. One reviewer noted that the establishment "looked nice" upon entering but that a closer look revealed cleanliness issues. The practice of staff sweeping and mopping before 8 PM, while seemingly aimed at maintaining cleanliness, has also drawn comments, particularly regarding wet floors and unaddressed issues in the restrooms, such as a very wet toilet seat and stalls that did not lock. These details suggest an environment that, while attempting to be maintained, may fall short in consistency or attention to detail in the eyes of some patrons.
In terms of services, China Town Buffet operates on a pay-before-you-sit model, which one reviewer speculated might be a consequence of the overall experience. The service style is typical of a buffet, where customers serve themselves from a variety of dishes. There is no specific information detailing table service beyond the general buffet format. One notable incident mentioned by a customer involved a person in the sushi area making loud noises while on the phone, which disrupted their dining experience. This suggests that while the core service is self-serve, general conduct within the restaurant can impact the overall customer experience.
The features of China Town Buffet primarily revolve around its extensive selection of Chinese dishes in a buffet format. Customers have consistently highlighted the "outstanding amount of choices" available. Among these numerous options, certain items have received specific mention, both positive and negative. The cream cheese wontons have been described as "delightful" and were singled out as the "only decent thing" by one reviewer. The peppered chicken was deemed "edible," though the reviewer expressed uncertainty about its authenticity. The beef and broccoli was considered "not bad," and mushrooms were noted as being "pretty good" when added to rice. Shanghai Noodles and what appeared to be butterfly shrimp were enjoyed by one diner's lunch partner. On the other hand, several items have been criticized. Spring rolls were described as "doughy," a texture unexpected for this dish. Coffee was met with extreme disapproval, being spat out by one customer due to its poor taste. The rice was described as needing "help," with a customer stating they could make better at home. Many items were generally characterized as having an "off flavor" and being "super greasy." A dish thought to be pineapple chicken did not taste like pineapple chicken to one reviewer. Furthermore, some food items, especially during later hours, were reported to have been "sitting for a while," resulting in "old hard food" and "older dried up food," despite patrons paying full price. The fresh fruit, however, was noted to look good, and chocolate pudding was also available, though one customer was too put off by the Chinese food to try it.
Regarding promotional information, no specific promotional offers or deals are provided in the given text. The description of the restaurant's offerings is purely based on the typical buffet model and customer experiences. The fact that customers pay full price even for food that may have been sitting for a while suggests a consistent pricing structure rather than a dynamic one based on food freshness at different times. There is no indication of loyalty programs, discounts, or special events being promoted by China Town Buffet in the provided information.
In summary, China Town Buffet presents itself as a Chinese buffet with a vast selection of dishes. While the quantity of options is a clear feature, customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding the quality, freshness, and preparation of the food, with greasiness and off-flavors being common complaints. The environment has been described as somewhat dingy with cleanliness issues noted in various areas. The service model is that of a standard buffet, with payment upfront. While some items like cream cheese wontons have received praise, the overall dining experience, as reflected in customer feedback, suggests areas for improvement in food quality, cleanliness, and consistency.

Customer Reviews
If I could leave a negative 100 star review for this place, I absolutely would. It looks like they chose quantity over quality. As they have an outstanding amount of choices, it is just not delicious choices. I would recommend that you don't come here. It is not the second best Chinese food place in Bismarck, it wouldn't even rank in the top 100 if they had a 100 places. Honestly, the only decent thing I found is their cream cheese wontons. Those are delightful. I got a spring roll and it was doughy. How the hell do you end up with a doughy spring roll? I've never had any place mess up a spring roll. The coffee was so bad I literally spat it out the minute it was in my mouth. I have tasted some swamp swill and I can tell you, I have never, ever spat it out like I did this. The peppered chicken was edible. Although I'm still not 100% convinced I was eating chicken. The beef and broccoli was not bad, but I don't know, I've had better, their mushrooms I put them all over the rice, It was pretty good. The rice definitely needs the help, I can make better at home. Most of the items we tried had an off flavor and was super greasy. We had what we think is pineapple chicken, but I don't, I don't know, it did not taste like pineapple chicken. My lunch partner went back for seconds on the Shanghai Noodles, so they must be okay and he seemed to enjoy their what looked like butterfly shrimp. I should not have so much grease all over my lips, from the food, that people think it's lip gloss. And let's not even discuss the fellow who was in the back, in the area that says sushi, making hawking/coughing up a loogie, noises while loudly on the phone during our entire stay in the restaurant. Pretty dark and dingy in here, but not dingy enough to stop me from noticing the grease all over the side of the wall in our booth. No wonder they get you to pay before you sit down. I can see why. The picture does not do the disturbing grease marks justice, it was pretty gross. The fresh fruit looked good. But I was so disturbed by the Chinese food Itself, that I couldn't even look at the fruit or the chocolate pudding they had which I was kind of excited about.
We got here around 7pm, after supper but before 9pm close. Much of what we ate had been sitting for a while. No one likes old hard food. Not all of it was bad and they would occasionally bring something fresh out. I get that it's toward the end. We paid full price for good food not discounted price for older dried up food. We did not say anything but made the best of it. Coming in it looked nice. Looking close it was dirty (windows, bathroom stalls, floors). They began sweeping and mopping before 8pm. Before leaving used the restrooms again. I thought a toilet overflowed, it appeared that wet. I looked at all stalls as I learned the first one first doesn't lock. They just mopped it that wer and missed spots on the glory floor and did nothing about the stalls. The toilet seat was very wet not just wiped wet-gross! I damn near fell 3 times If the cleaning in one area isn't good, what is the rest like? Do they short cut that?
The food was cool. I question if it was warm enough to pass a health inspection. I had to ask other patrons where to get a drink. Turned out I was supposed to have been given a cup when I ordered. I had to go back and get it. I would recommend eating elsewhere.
Went to China Town Buffet recently and honestly, it was kind of a letdown. The food was hot, which was nice, but everything just felt super unorganized. For the price, I expected better quality and a more put-together setup. It wasn’t horrible or anything, just not really worth what we paid. Maybe I went on an off day—I’m not saying you shouldn’t go there, this is just my opinion.
Our family all likes different things and there is a little bit of everything. It isn't cheap for a family of 4 so we go on special occasions. Compared to the other buffet they include drinks here, they charge less for kids, and you don't have to wait for refills. Suggestion: please don't make the fish so tiny in the sushi rolls.
