About China Tokyo

Welcome to China Tokyo, a Chinese restaurant located at 2112 W Cumberland St, Dunn, NC 28334, USA. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, China Tokyo offers takeout and delivery services, catering to residents in Dunn and the surrounding areas. Based on recent customer feedback, the restaurant presents a mixed experience, with some dishes receiving high praise while others have been met with criticism. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of China Tokyo based on the available reviews, highlighting both its strengths and weaknesses to help local users make informed decisions.

One of the standout dishes at China Tokyo, according to a recent review, is the Lo Mein. A customer who ordered takeout through DoorDash described it as "hands down, some of the best takeout lo mein we’ve ever had." They specifically praised its flavorful profile, noting the absence of any unusual smells or lack of taste, which can sometimes be issues with takeout Lo Mein from other establishments. This positive feedback suggests that the Lo Mein at China Tokyo is a strong contender and a dish that many might enjoy, leading the reviewer to express a definite intention to order it again.

In contrast to the highly praised Lo Mein, other aspects of the menu have received less favorable reviews. One customer who seemed to be ordering for a last-minute meal expressed that the food was "okay" overall, but had specific criticisms regarding the chicken and steak. They mentioned that these proteins were just "ehhh," raising a degree of uncertainty about their quality or preparation. This suggests that the quality of different protein options might vary.

The rice at China Tokyo also received a critical assessment from the same reviewer. They described the rice, "possibly white at one point," as looking and tasting like it had been sitting for a "long while" and being "drenched in brown sauce." This indicates a potential issue with the freshness or preparation of the rice, a staple in many Chinese dishes. Such feedback is important for local users who consider rice quality a key component of their meal.

On a more positive note, the side of sweet soy sauce was mentioned as a "nice change," suggesting that China Tokyo offers some unique or well-received condiments. However, the "white" sauce, identified as "jazzed up mayo," was priced at $1 for each extra serving, a detail that potential customers might want to consider, especially if they typically request extra sauces with their orders.

Another dish that received positive feedback was the side order of veggie fried rice. This was described as "yellow rice with a nice amount of veggies" and was considered "tasty," even when eaten the next day. This suggests that the veggie fried rice is a reliable and flavorful option, particularly for those who enjoy vegetarian fried rice. The fact that it remained tasty as leftovers indicates good quality and preparation.

The overall sentiment from one reviewer was a "toss-up" on whether they would order again, suggesting an inconsistent experience. They speculated that food might be fresher if ordered earlier in the day, implying potential concerns about food freshness later in the day. This is a crucial point for local users to consider when deciding when to place their orders.

Despite the mixed reviews on the food quality, one aspect that was consistently praised was the service. The reviewer who had criticisms about the food specifically mentioned that the service was "great" and that "2 very pleasant ladies took our order." This positive feedback about the staff suggests that customers can expect a friendly and courteous interaction when placing their orders, which can contribute to a more positive overall experience, even if the food quality is perceived as inconsistent.

Based on the limited information available, it is difficult to provide a detailed description of the environment of China Tokyo. The reviews primarily focus on takeout and delivery experiences and do not offer insights into the ambiance or cleanliness of a dine-in area, if one exists. Therefore, local users seeking a dine-in experience may need to look for additional information or consider other options if the environment is a significant factor in their choice.

Similarly, details about specific services beyond takeout and delivery (via DoorDash) are not provided in the reviews. It is unclear if China Tokyo offers catering services or has its own in-house delivery drivers. Local users interested in these services may need to contact the restaurant directly for more information.

In conclusion, China Tokyo in Dunn, NC, presents a somewhat varied experience for its customers. While the Lo Mein and veggie fried rice have received positive reviews, other dishes like the chicken, steak, and plain fried rice have been criticized for their quality and freshness. The service, particularly from the order-taking staff, has been noted as great. Potential customers might find some dishes to be enjoyable, but there appears to be a lack of consistency across the menu. Local users might want to consider trying the highly recommended Lo Mein or veggie fried rice while being mindful of the reported issues with other items and the potential for varying freshness depending on the time of day. As there is no information on promotional offers, customers should inquire directly with the restaurant about any current specials.

We ordered takeout through DoorDash. This was, hands down, some of the best takeout lo mein we’ve ever had. Some have weird smells, or no flavor, but this was full of just the right flavor. Absolutely will be ordering this again. 💯

Decent prices and last-minute/I don't want to cook meal. Food was okay...chicken and steak (possible the real stuff, idk) was just ehhh. The rice, possibly white at one point, looked and tasted like it had been sitting for awhile, a long while, drenched in brown sauce. Side of a sweet soy sauce was a nice change and the 'white' sauce was just jazzed up mayo, which is $1 per every extra one you ask for -- see in picture below. The side order of Veggie fried rice was yellow rice with a nice amount of veggies and was tasty...even the next day. Toss-up if we will order again. Perhaps earlier in the day food is fresh. I do want to add that the service was great...2 very pleasant ladies took our order.

This place is excellent and by far the best Asian restaurant in the local area! China Tokyo and Wendi at the front counter are always friendly and my favorite part is that they always get my order exactly as I like it! China Tokyo is fast and has great price points with quality food! This has been my go to restaurant for just under a year. On my second order they got it wrong and then again on my third order. I talked to them and told them in a very friendly and polite manner that I would love to continue doing business with them but was particular about getting my order the way I requested and for certain items to be left out of my dish. They were very receptive and since that time, almost one year ago, my order has never been wrong. For local Asian cuisine I highly recommend China Tokyo!

I wish I could put ZERO STARS! I purchased a pepper steak combo, large wonton soup and beef and broccoli, and everything was disgusting!! It's completely not editable. The steak was hard, and each piece had a different taste and was dry. The pork fried rice was dry as well, and I almost threw up from taking a bite of one of the onions. It had a moldy taste, so I had to throw it all in the garbage. The worst was what they served as wonton soup. It was a dark brown soup that smelled like nothing I'd ever smelled before. It looked and smelt like a bowl of dirty toilet water..... I'd stay far away from this place, or it should be shut down by the Health Department!

This review compares the food I got with the food I usually get at a typical Japanese restaurant. The food here was decent. I got hibachi steak and chicken, and the steak was the kind of steak you get with beef and broccoli. Just like the name says, you can get both, but that's the first time I have ever had that style of steak with my hibachi. The chicken was overcooked, the rice was ok, and the white sauce was nasty, way too sweet, but that's my opinion. The highlights bottle drinks were .99 cents, and the food was hot; the broccoli and mushrooms were terrific.
