About China Star

China Star is a Chinese restaurant located at 4639 Hillsborough Rd in Durham, North Carolina, serving the local community with a menu of American Chinese takeout staples. As a Chinese restaurant, China Star offers options for takeout and presumably dine-in, although recent customer feedback provides insights into both the food and the dining environment.

Regarding the restaurant's environment, one customer described the inside as "very run down." While they acknowledged that this might be acceptable if the food quality were high, this observation suggests that the ambiance and physical condition of the restaurant may not be appealing to all customers. Potential diners who prioritize a comfortable or well-maintained dining space might find this aspect to be a significant drawback.

In terms of services, China Star appears to focus primarily on takeout, as indicated by one reviewer's description of the food as "below average for American Chinese food takeout." However, the review also mentions that "the people working there were quick and helpful," highlighting a positive aspect of their service. This suggests that while there might be concerns about the food and environment, the staff's efficiency and helpfulness are noteworthy.

The features of China Star, based on the limited recent reviews, present a mixed picture. One significant concern raised by a customer pertains to the quality of the food. They specifically mentioned that "the lo mein noodles had a really off-putting smell and the sesame tofu was very watery." These are significant criticisms regarding the taste and texture of key dishes, suggesting potential issues with food preparation or ingredient quality. The reviewer concluded that the food was "below average" for American Chinese takeout.

Another customer echoed a similar sentiment, describing the overall experience as "Not great, not good, barely average at above average prices." This suggests that, at least for this reviewer, the cost of the food did not align with the perceived quality. Furthermore, this customer pointed out a peculiar omission: "No soy sauce included, what? Of all the Chinese food restaurants I've been to this one definitely could have used soy sauce." The absence of a standard condiment like soy sauce was a notable negative point for this reviewer, further detracting from their overall satisfaction.

The same reviewer also expressed confusion regarding the restaurant's online rating, questioning, "How does this place have a 4.6 rating? Beats the he!! out of me!" This discrepancy between their personal experience and the reported rating suggests that past experiences might have been different, or that the rating might not accurately reflect recent customer satisfaction. It is important for potential customers to consider the most recent feedback when making their decisions.

Currently, there is no promotional information available for China Star in the provided reviews. The focus of the feedback is primarily on the food quality, restaurant environment, and basic service aspects rather than any special offers or promotions that might be in place. The lack of positive comments regarding the food or ambiance in these recent reviews does not provide a strong basis for highlighting any particular positive features that might attract new customers.

For local users in Durham considering China Star, it is crucial to weigh the reported drawbacks against the positive mention of quick and helpful service. The concerns regarding the "run down" interior, the "off-putting smell" of the lo mein, the "watery" sesame tofu, the "below average" food quality, and the absence of soy sauce are significant points of caution. The perception of "above average prices" for "barely average" food further suggests that the value proposition might not be compelling for some customers.

Given the limited and largely negative recent feedback, potential customers might want to consider these experiences before choosing to order from or visit China Star. While the staff is described as quick and helpful, the fundamental aspects of food quality and the dining environment appear to be areas of concern based on these reviews. It would be prudent for prospective diners to perhaps look at more recent reviews from other platforms to gain a broader understanding of the current customer sentiment towards China Star.

In conclusion, while China Star is located at 4639 Hillsborough Rd in Durham and offers American Chinese takeout, recent customer reviews raise significant concerns about the food quality and the condition of the restaurant's interior. The quick and helpful service is a positive note, but it may not outweigh the reported issues with the food's taste, texture, and the overall dining experience. Potential customers are advised to consider these points carefully before making a decision. For inquiries or orders, China Star can be contacted at (919) 383-4800 or +1 919-383-4800. However, addressing the core issues related to food quality and the restaurant's upkeep appears to be essential for improving customer satisfaction.

The food was below average for American Chinese food takeout, the lo mein noodles had a really off-putting smell and the sesame tofu was very watery. The inside of the restaurant is very run down (which could be ok if the food was good). That said, the people working there were quick and helpful.

I always come here for the best chinese food in town. The portions are large and really tasty. The place is humble looking but has fun funky decorations and the lady is always so friendly. Real genuine family owned business, I love it

Avoid at all costs this place is terrible over priced garbage. They have two tables they were both filthy and one had a spider 🕷️. After ordering and not getting all my food I sat down and gave them the benefit of the doubt only to eat complete garbage. If you’re from the area and you have no other options drive the extra miles to avoid because it was terrible. I got the General Tso’s chicken and wonton soup. It tasted like it was poisoned. I should have asked for a refund but the woman’s son looked like he had severe issues so we just left out of pure pity but she still didn’t give us all of our food. Poor service poor food poor filthy restaurant.

I had an outstanding experience at China star The food was incredibly delicious, and the service was top-notch. I loved the stylish and atmospheric interior, complete with a sleek bar area and spacious tables perfect for large groups. During my dinner visit, the appetizers were mouth-watering, and the Pork Belly Banh Mi was a standout - super savory and expertly caramelized. I highly recommend trying it! Overall, I'm definitely coming back for more."
