About China Star
Welcome to China Star, a Chinese Restaurant located at 4230 Legion Rd. & Elk Rd Suite D in Hope Mills, North Carolina. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, China Star aims to provide a range of Chinese dishes for the community. Based on the available customer reviews, the overall impression of China Star is somewhat mixed, with positive remarks about pricing and service balanced by criticisms of certain food items and preparation.
One of the frequently mentioned positive aspects of China Star is its affordability. Customers have noted "Good prices," suggesting that it offers a budget-friendly option for those seeking Chinese takeout in the Hope Mills area. In addition to the pricing, the portion sizes are also generally well-received, with one reviewer mentioning "good portion." This combination of reasonable prices and generous servings can be an attractive feature for value-conscious customers.
The flavor of the food at China Star receives mixed feedback. One customer described the flavor as "decent," indicating an acceptable taste that is not particularly outstanding but not necessarily negative either. They also noted that the food "tasted fresh," which is a positive attribute. However, another reviewer had a less favorable experience with specific dishes, stating that the "beef fried rice taste hard with no flavor." This inconsistency suggests that the quality and taste may vary depending on the dish.
Customer service appears to be a notable strength of China Star. One reviewer specifically praised the "very nice owner/front lady," indicating a positive and welcoming interaction with the staff. This personal touch can significantly enhance the overall customer experience, even if the food has some shortcomings. Another observation regarding service was that the "Order was done fast and easy," highlighting efficiency in processing and preparing orders, which is convenient for takeout customers.
However, the food quality seems to be an area of concern for some reviewers. One customer suggested that the "Chicken could have been more crispy," indicating a textural issue with this particular item. They also felt that the "noodles could use a tad more flavor" and that the "rice was a tad dry." While acknowledging that "it's fast food," they implied that there is room for improvement in the preparation of these standard Chinese takeout dishes.
More critical feedback was provided by another reviewer who stated that "The chicken is dry" and reiterated the issue with the "beef fried rice taste hard with no flavor." Additionally, this reviewer found the "egg rolls is disgusting" and described the "french fries" (an unusual offering for a Chinese restaurant) as "cold with no seasoning." These strong negative comments on multiple dishes raise concerns about the overall food quality and consistency at China Star.
An interesting observation from one reviewer pertained to hygiene practices. While they noted that "the lady was super nice," they also mentioned seeing her wear gloves while the cook did not. This discrepancy in glove usage in the kitchen was perceived as "weird" and could be a concern for some customers regarding food safety practices.
Considering these mixed reviews, it is challenging to definitively describe the environment of China Star. As a Chinese Restaurant located in a strip mall setting (implied by "Suite D"), it likely offers a casual and functional space for ordering and potentially a small dining area for those who wish to eat on-site. However, the reviews do not provide any specific details about the ambiance, decor, or cleanliness of the restaurant itself. Local users might need to visit the location to form their own impression of the environment.
The primary service offered by China Star is takeout, given the fast order preparation mentioned and the nature of the reviews focusing on food quality for off-site consumption. It is also probable that they offer dine-in services, although this is not explicitly stated in the reviews. The mention of a "front lady" suggests a counter where customers can place and pick up orders. The efficiency of order processing is a noted positive service aspect. To confirm whether dine-in or delivery options are available, customers would need to contact the restaurant directly.
Features of China Star, based on the customer feedback, include affordable prices, generous portion sizes, relatively fast service, and a friendly owner/front staff member. However, potential drawbacks include inconsistent food quality, with issues reported in the crispiness of chicken, flavor of noodles, dryness of rice, lack of flavor and texture in fried rice, and poor quality of egg rolls. The hygiene practices in the kitchen, specifically the inconsistent use of gloves, might also be a concern for some.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any potential specials, discounts, or combination deals offered by China Star would need to inquire directly by calling them at (910) 425-9998 or +1 910-425-9998, or by visiting their location at 4230 Legion Rd. & Elk Rd Suite D, Hope Mills, NC 28348. Many Chinese restaurants offer lunch specials or family meal deals, so it would be prudent to ask about these possibilities.
In conclusion, China Star in Hope Mills, NC, offers a budget-friendly option with good portion sizes and fast service, accompanied by a friendly owner/front staff. However, the restaurant appears to struggle with the consistency and quality of its food, with multiple reports of dry chicken, flavorless or hard fried rice, and poor-quality egg rolls. The preparation of noodles and rice has also received less than stellar feedback. Potential customers should weigh the positive aspects of price and service against the reported inconsistencies in food quality when deciding whether to patronize China Star. It might be a suitable option for those prioritizing cost and speed over consistently high food quality, but those with specific preferences for well-prepared and flavorful dishes may want to consider these reviews carefully.
For local users in the Hope Mills area looking for a Chinese Restaurant, China Star presents a mixed bag. The affordability and speed are definite pluses, and the friendly service can enhance the experience. However, the concerns raised about the taste and texture of several key dishes cannot be ignored. It might be advisable to try a few different items to see if personal experiences align with the existing reviews, or to inquire about the preparation methods for specific dishes of interest. Visiting the restaurant might also provide a better sense of the environment and overall operation.
Ultimately, China Star serves as a local Chinese takeout option in Hope Mills. While it offers some advantages in terms of price and speed, potential customers should be aware of the reported issues with food quality and consistency. The positive remarks about the owner/front lady suggest a commitment to customer interaction, but improvements in food preparation may be needed to elevate the overall customer experience.

3.9 overall Good prices, portion and decent flavor with a very nice owner/front lady. Order was done fast and easy, tasted fresh. Chicken could have been more crispy, noodles could use a tad more flavor and rice was a tad dry, but again not bad for the price - it's fast food!
The chicken is dry .the beef fried rice taste hard with no flavor . The egg rolls is disgusting the french fries were cold with no seasoning but the lady was super nice the dislikes was I seen she had on gloves but the cook didn't that's weird
The crab rangoon’s are top notch, along with the beef lo mein and sesame chicken! The reviews can drive you away but this is my 3rd time eating it and there is no disappointment. It is so very good!!
China Star is a restaurant in the same new strip mall as the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Legion Road. We have been there several times since we "discovered" it. The first time, not knowing their Open time, we approached their door, but turned around and headed to our car to go somewhere else because neither of us wanted to wait. One of the owners opened the door and invited us in. Her husband started cooking as soon as he knew what we wanted. The food brought to the table (really quickly) was beautiful! And smelled so good. My husband and I agreed that for the first time since we moved back to NC, the Chinese meal we had before us was the best! We had enjoyed Japanese food and the Chinese food while we lived in Iwakuni. In the Phoenix metro there are many restaurants that serve great tasting foods. We have returned many times and each time truly enjoyed our meals. This is the one Chinese restaurant in Fayetteville we have found that prepared great tasting Chinese food.
