About China Star
Welcome to China Star, a Chinese restaurant situated at 6276 Boone Avenue North in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, China Star offers a range of Chinese cuisine for both takeout and dine-in customers. Based on online reviews, China Star appears to be a "little hole in the wall place" that surprises patrons with its quality of food and generous portions, exceeding expectations for those who discover it.
You can contact China Star by phone at (763) 535-5447 or via their mobile number +1 763-535-5447. These contact details can be used to place orders for pickup, inquire about their menu, or confirm their operating hours. One reviewer mentioned ordering online, suggesting that China Star likely offers online ordering services for added convenience. Whether they also provide delivery services is not explicitly stated in the provided reviews, so it would be advisable to inquire directly if delivery is needed.
Customer feedback available online highlights several key aspects of the China Star experience. One reviewer who ordered online was "greeted warmly at the door" when picking up their order. Despite arriving a little early, they found that the cuisine was prepared to order and was still "properly warm" by the time they returned to their hotel. This indicates a focus on freshness and ensuring the food is at an appropriate temperature for enjoyment, even after a short travel time. A significant point emphasized by this reviewer was the "too huge" portion sizes, noting that a single order was enough for "at least two or three people." This suggests that China Star offers excellent value in terms of the quantity of food provided. The reviewer also specifically praised the "delicious" sweet and sour sauce and found both the "chicken with cashews" and the "shrimp dish" to be "fantastic," indicating high quality and flavor in these particular menu items.
Another reviewer also found the food to be "good" but noted that the location is "a little small." They cautioned that if someone were to bring a family, the place could fill up quickly, suggesting limited seating capacity for dine-in customers. Despite the size, this reviewer felt that "the food is worth it," especially for those who prefer a "muted but delicious" flavor profile, indicating that while the flavors might not be overpowering or intensely bold, they are still enjoyable. A unique aspect of the environment mentioned was that "there are drawings hung on the wall by children that make it feel more homey." This suggests a casual and welcoming atmosphere, possibly indicating a family-run establishment with a personal touch in the decor.
Based on these reviews, the menu at China Star likely includes classic Chinese-American dishes such as chicken with cashews and shrimp dishes, as specifically mentioned. Given the praise for their sweet and sour sauce, it is probable that they offer other dishes featuring this popular sauce, such as sweet and sour chicken or pork. The mention of online ordering suggests a comprehensive menu with a variety of appetizers, soups, rice and noodle dishes, and various meat, poultry, and seafood entrees prepared with different sauces and cooking styles. The "huge" portion sizes imply that their entrees are substantial and likely intended for sharing or for multiple meals.
The environment of China Star is described as a "little hole in the wall place," suggesting a smaller, perhaps unassuming location. However, the positive feedback indicates that the quality of the food and service more than compensates for the size or appearance of the venue. The mention of children's drawings on the wall contributes to a "homey" and welcoming atmosphere, suggesting a more casual and personal touch compared to larger, more commercial establishments. While the size might be a limitation for large groups wanting to dine in, it likely contributes to a cozy and intimate setting for smaller parties or individuals.
In terms of services, China Star offers both takeout and dine-in options. The availability of online ordering adds a layer of convenience for customers who prefer to order ahead for pickup. The warm greeting upon arrival, even for a takeout order, suggests friendly and attentive customer service. The fact that the food was prepared to order indicates a commitment to freshness. While delivery service is not confirmed, the option for online ordering often goes hand-in-hand with delivery, so it is worth inquiring if this is a service they provide. The generous portion sizes can also be seen as a service benefit, offering good value for the price.
Features of China Star include its delicious and freshly prepared cuisine, particularly the sweet and sour sauce, chicken with cashews, and shrimp dishes. The "too huge" portion sizes are a significant feature, providing ample food for the cost. The "little hole in the wall" ambiance with children's drawings creates a unique and homey atmosphere. The warm and friendly customer service, including a warm greeting and efficient handling of online orders, is another positive feature. The muted yet delicious flavor profile might appeal to those who prefer less intense seasonings while still enjoying flavorful Chinese food.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Smaller, independent restaurants like China Star might have daily specials or lunch deals to attract customers. To find out if China Star currently has any promotions, it would be best to check if they have a website or social media presence, or simply inquire when calling to place an order. Given their local nature, any promotions might be advertised within the restaurant itself or through local community channels.
In conclusion, China Star in Minneapolis appears to be a hidden gem, offering delicious and freshly cooked Chinese cuisine with remarkably generous portions. Despite its small size and "hole in the wall" description, it provides a warm and homey atmosphere with friendly service. The sweet and sour sauce, chicken with cashews, and shrimp dishes are particularly praised. While the location might be limited for large dine-in groups, the quality and quantity of the food, along with the convenience of online ordering for takeout, make it a strong contender for those seeking satisfying Chinese food in the Minneapolis area. To learn about any potential delivery options or current promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

Greeted warmly at the door. We had ordered on line and I was a little early. The cuisine was prepared to order and was still properly warm once I got it back tobthe hotel. Portion sizes were too huge. There was enough for at least two or three people for each order. Sweet and sour sauce was delicious. Chicken with cashews and shrimp dish was fantastic. Little hole in the wall place certainly met and actually exceeded our expectations.
The food is good here but the location is a little small if you tried to bring a family it would fill up fast. The food is worth it though, if you don't need a lot of flavor. The flavor it muted but delicious all the same. There are drawings hung on the wall by children that make it feel more homey.
Excellent food! Ordered from China Star two nights in a row. On first night Beef with Broccoli meal and Two Egg Rolls and on second night General Tso's Chicken meal. Both meals were excellent. food is fresh, flavor consistent, spiced perfectly and ingredients high quality. Also, good portion sizes and everything on the menu is reasonably priced.
Good lomein and surprisingly good egg rolls. The egg rolls looks like standard egg rolls, but they were better than I expected and I'd definitely order them again. The noodles were good too. Over all a good hole in the wall place from what I ordered
The food could have had more vegetables/fruit etc. Such as the sweet and sour was just fried chicken pieces, sauce with rice, which was good but lacking. There are only three tables so this must be a mostly takeout or delivery place. I would go there again and try different things.
