About China Star
Welcome to China Star, a Chinese Restaurant located at 15 Main St, Montpelier, VT 05602, USA. As a Chinese Restaurant in the heart of Montpelier, China Star offers a local option for those seeking Asian cuisine. They can be contacted at (802) 223-0808 or +1 802-223-0808 for inquiries.
Based on the limited customer reviews available, the experiences at China Star appear to be quite polarized. One reviewer described their experience as "fair," noting that the food tasted good and the bathroom was clean. They also mentioned that the restaurant has approximately seven tables for dine-in customers and does not have a high chair available. This reviewer indicated that China Star accepts credit and debit cards and seems to be a family-run establishment, with street parking available.
In stark contrast, another reviewer expressed extreme dissatisfaction, stating they would give zero stars if possible and described their experience as so negative they were considering therapy. This review contained highly critical feedback on specific dishes. The crab rangoon was described as tasting like "regret" and being offensively soggy. The lo mein was reported to be excessively saturated in an overpowering "mysterious sauce" that the reviewer suspected was an attempt to mask the flavor of despair. The "fried toast" served was likened to a buttered sponge that had been deep-fried. The only positive observation from this highly critical review was that the staff seemed eager to provide extra sauce, implying that it might be the safest item on the menu. This reviewer strongly advised others to avoid the restaurant due to concerns about food quality and potential food poisoning, labeling it an "edible disappointment."
Given the significant disparity in these two reviews, it is challenging to form a definitive objective assessment of the environment, services, and features of China Star based solely on this information. The first review suggests a basic, family-run establishment with a clean bathroom and limited dine-in capacity. The second review focuses almost entirely on the severely negative perception of the food quality, providing no insights into the ambiance or other aspects of the restaurant.
Regarding the environment, the first review mentions approximately seven tables for dining in, indicating a relatively small establishment. The cleanliness of the bathroom was noted positively. The observation that it looks like a family-run establishment suggests a potentially informal and personal atmosphere. However, the lack of a high chair might be a consideration for families with young children. The availability of street parking is also a practical piece of information for potential diners.
In terms of services, China Star offers dine-in, as evidenced by the mention of tables. They also accept credit and debit cards, providing a convenient payment option for customers. While not explicitly stated, it is reasonable to assume that they also offer takeout services, as is common for many Chinese restaurants. Delivery services are not mentioned in the reviews, so their availability is unknown. The level of customer service appears to be perceived differently by the two reviewers, with one describing it as "fair" and the other implying a lack of concern for food quality issues.
Features of China Star, based on the limited information, include its apparent family-run nature, its acceptance of credit/debit cards, and the availability of a clean bathroom. However, the severely negative review highlights a significant potential issue with food quality, which would undoubtedly be a primary concern for any prospective customer. The limited number of dine-in tables might also be a factor for those planning to eat at the restaurant, potentially leading to wait times during busy periods.
No promotional information is mentioned in either of the provided reviews. Therefore, details about any special offers, discounts, or loyalty programs are currently unavailable. Local users interested in such information would need to contact the restaurant directly or check for any local advertisements or online listings that might provide such details.
In conclusion, China Star in Montpelier, VT, is a Chinese Restaurant that appears to be a small, family-run establishment offering dine-in and likely takeout services, accepting credit/debit cards, and providing a clean bathroom. However, the customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences. One reviewer found the food to be good tasting and the service fair, while another reported a severely negative experience with the food quality, raising significant concerns. Potential local users should be aware of these conflicting reports. Given the strong negative feedback regarding the food, it might be prudent to exercise caution or seek more recent and diverse reviews before deciding to dine at China Star. Those who do choose to try it may want to consider ordering simpler dishes or inquiring about the freshness and preparation methods.
For local residents of Montpelier, VT, China Star represents a Chinese dining option on Main Street. However, the available feedback suggests a considerable risk regarding the quality of the food served. While some basic amenities like credit/debit card acceptance and a clean bathroom are noted, the severe criticism of the dishes by one reviewer cannot be ignored. Without more balanced or recent reviews, it is difficult to provide a confident recommendation. Potential customers might find it beneficial to look for additional reviews on other platforms to gain a broader understanding of the current customer experience at China Star.

Customer Reviews
Fair experience. Food is good tasting. Fair service experience. Has a clean bathroom. Probably 7 tables to dine in. No high chair. Accepts credit/debit card. Looks like a family run establishment. Street parking only
If I could give zero stars, I would. This place was so bad, I’m considering therapy just to process the experience. The crab rangoon? More like crab ran-wrong. It tasted like regret stuffed into a wonton and deep-fried just enough to be offensively soggy. The lo mein? Absolutely drowned in some mysterious sauce that was so overpowering, I’m convinced it was their attempt to cover up the taste of despair. They gave us this…thing. I think it was supposed to be fried toast, but it felt like someone buttered up a sponge and threw it in the fryer for laughs. The only thing they seemed excited about was handing out extra sauce, almost like they knew it was the only semi-safe thing on the menu. I will be eternally grateful if I don’t get food poisoning. Avoid at all costs—unless you’re into edible disappointment.
Very disappointed in the quality of the food. I decided to have Chinese for Christmas dinner with my kids and grandkids because it's everyone's favorite and I could spend more time with them if I didn't have to cook. I spent $88 and don't think I've ever had worse Chinese food in my life...such a let down and waste of money. If I could give zero stars I would.
Good food and fast service. If you are in the mood for Chinese takeout then this is not a bad option, especially with being in the middle of VT. I know most people won't agree but Chinese food is comfort food to me, always reminds me of NYC. PS. NYC Chinese food is #1 in my opinion.
The food was atrociously vile. The General Tso chicken was with out chicken, and was filled with water-logged dough. The crab rangoons were putrid. Felt like puking after my tongue touched it. I have never had food worse than this in my entire life.
