China Star Chinese Restaurant

I finally had a chance to try the China Star at 1647 Babcock Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229. I had the lunch combo plate and it was huge. The Mongolian beef and General Tao chicken were both very tasty as well as the fried rice, eggroll and soup. All this was $11.25. The staff were all extremely nice as well. This is a no frills - hole in the wall place but its clean and definitely worth a visit!😁

Bueno bonito barrato, plenty of food for the price. Place is dark and dingy but the food is good wish they had better lighting in the place. Ordered combination low lemein and never could go wrong with that also the beef and broccoli is amazing. The plate comes with cheese Rangoon or wing or egg roll and a soup. Egg drop is always good. I also order the sesame chicken it’s crispy and amazing. You will leave full and with enough for the next day so ask for a to go box.

A friend brought me and I never been. Live around the corner for years. Now is my new favorite place the best hot and sour I ever had the cook must be very talented the food is very tasteful in whatever I order 😀 services is great they’re nice and fast. You could tell they’re hard workers and I love the spot because it’s nice and cozy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Never again. I saw some good reviews and I am always up for trying new restaurants, even if they are considered a hole in the wall. I don’t mind the poor lighting or small dining area but when the restroom smells like there’s a decomposing rat in the wall, it makes me wonder what the kitchen is like. I went in there only to wash my hands and the smell was so horrible, I could barely stay in there long enough to wash my hands. The odor was not the typical unpleasant odor that you encounter in public restrooms, this was definitely something that smelled liked a dead animal. It made my stomach churn. Now to the food. The hot and sour soup was too thick and the flavor was off. The lemon chicken had a nice crunch to it but there was a slight mushy texture under the crust and it made the texture seem a bit slimy. The fried rice was plain. There were no visible veggies in it. The sweet tea was way too sweet. I was not impressed by a single item there. I would not recommend this place. Just because the prices seem “good” is not a good enough reason to come here. You definitely get what you pay for. I don’t care if the portions are good for the price. If the food is poor quality, the portion doesn’t matter. I left half of my meal there. The server asked if I would like a to-go container and I said no. Trust me, when half of my food is left on my plate, I always take it to go but this food here……no way.

For just under $7 you get soup, an egg roll and a great meal! It was delivered quickly and although this tiny restaurant was packed during lunch, I was well attended to. My server never missed a beat! The meal was good - I had the Kung Pao and it wasn’t very spicy but I enjoyed it very much. The egg drop soup was perfect and the egg roll was good. Everything about this place during lunch is quaint and fitting and it somehow takes you out of Texas - you forget where you are when you’re here! Will hopefully be visiting again soon.
