About China Panda

Welcome to China Panda, a Chinese restaurant located at 616 N Sheppard Street in Richmond, Virginia (VA 23221). As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, China Panda aims to offer a variety of Chinese dishes to the local community. They can be contacted at (804) 355-6888 or their mobile number +1 804-355-6888 for inquiries or to place orders.

Based on recent customer feedback, China Panda presents a somewhat mixed culinary experience. One reviewer specifically highlighted the restaurant as an excellent option for vegan and vegetarian diners in Richmond. They found both the mock chicken and the mock beef dishes to be "incredible," praising their flavor and the "HUGE portions for the price." This positive review suggests that China Panda may specialize in or offer particularly noteworthy plant-based alternatives to traditional meat dishes, making it a potentially attractive choice for those with dietary restrictions or preferences.

However, another recent review offered a starkly contrasting perspective. This customer expressed significant dissatisfaction with the food quality, stating that "everything was so tough, even the tofu." They questioned how tofu could be made tough and described the mock chicken pieces as "so chewy and tasteless." This reviewer also speculated that the food might have been cooked previously and then reheated in a fryer. Their overall assessment, quoting their husband, was lukewarm at best: "well, it's food, that about the best I can say for it." This negative feedback raises concerns about the texture and taste of some of the dishes, including both the mock meats and the tofu.

Considering these two very different experiences, it is challenging to form a definitive picture of the overall quality and consistency at China Panda. The positive review emphasizes the flavorful and generous portions of their vegan and vegetarian options, suggesting a potential strength in this area of their menu. This could be a significant feature for the local Richmond community that seeks plant-based Chinese cuisine.

On the other hand, the negative review points to potential issues with food preparation, resulting in tough textures and a lack of flavor in both mock meat and tofu dishes. This raises concerns about the restaurant's consistency and the quality of some of its offerings. It is possible that the experiences vary depending on the specific dishes ordered or perhaps the time of service.

The provided reviews do not offer any specific details about the restaurant's environment or ambiance. Therefore, information regarding the décor, seating arrangements, or overall atmosphere is currently unavailable. Similarly, there is no mention of specific services beyond food preparation and potential takeout or dine-in options. The positive review's mention of "HUGE portions for the price" could be considered a feature, suggesting value for money in terms of quantity, at least for the dishes they ordered.

Furthermore, neither of the reviews mentions any promotional information, such as discounts, special offers, or loyalty programs that China Panda might be running. Local users interested in such details would need to contact the restaurant directly or check any online presence they may have (e.g., website, social media pages).

For local users in Richmond, VA, considering China Panda, it is important to weigh the contrasting opinions presented in the available reviews. If you are specifically looking for vegan or vegetarian Chinese options, the positive feedback on the mock chicken and beef with large portions might be appealing. However, the negative review regarding the toughness and lack of flavor in other dishes, including tofu, should also be taken into consideration. Potential customers might want to inquire about the preparation methods or perhaps focus on the specific vegan and vegetarian dishes that received positive feedback.

Without further information or more consistent reviews, it is difficult to provide a comprehensive assessment of China Panda. The restaurant appears to cater to vegan and vegetarian customers with some success, but there are also reports of significant quality issues with other items on the menu. Local diners may want to exercise caution or seek more recent reviews from various sources to get a broader understanding of the current dining experience at China Panda.

In conclusion, China Panda in Richmond, VA, is a Chinese restaurant that seems to offer notable vegan and vegetarian options with generous portions, according to one review. However, another customer reported significant issues with the texture and flavor of their food, including mock meats and tofu. Potential diners, especially those not ordering the specific mock meat dishes mentioned positively, should be aware of this mixed feedback when making their decision.

Got the mock chicken and the mock beef. Both were incredible. Flavorful and HUGE portions for the price. Best spot if you’re vegan or vegetarian in Richmond.

Everything was so tough, even the tofu. How do you make tofu tough? The mock chicken pieces so chewy and tasteless. I suspect food was cooked previously then reheated in the fryer. As my husband said, "well, it's food, that about the best I can say for it."

Wow. The woman who runs this restaurant is aggressively rude. Like not even regular rude. lol But she’s mean. I know I’m a stranger to anyone reading this but I swear I’m a nice person who doesn’t abuse ppl in the service industry. I don’t abuse anyone in any job or any capacity. But I used to be a server and bartender when I was younger so I’m extra compassionate to those in this industry. I eat out like twice a week. I always tip a lot. I didn’t respond to her rudeness even. Like I didn’t match it. I just rolled with it but she wouldn’t stop no matter how passive I was. I’ve never had an experience with anyone like this. It was so bad I couldn’t even finish placing my order. For a split second I thought about just tolerating her abuse but then I thought if she’s this annoyed with me then do I really trust that the food is going to be good? No. And I definitely didn’t want to actually show up and deal with her in person. After how nasty she was on the phone I was like what if she berates me in person too. It was literally minutes of her just being nasty and then ramping it up and ramping it up more. Based on the other reviews, it seems like service is not their forte.

Probably the worst Chinese food I have ever purchased. I did not say eaten because it was so bad we couldnt eat it. This was in 2023 and things can change but saying I was disappointed is an understatement. How about disgusted?

Ordered Chicken wing combo with shrimp fried rice. 2 shrimp roll… they didn’t give me my rice just chicken and rolls. They are incompetent and not so friendly. Not ever going there again.
