About China One
China One is a Chinese restaurant located at 712 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55104, USA, operating under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant." They can be contacted at (651) 298-9888 or via their mobile number +1 651-298-9888. Based on recent customer reviews, China One offers a convenient and affordable option for Chinese takeout in the St. Paul area, with some dishes receiving high praise while others have been noted as lacking in flavor.
One reviewer shared their experience with a takeout order, noting that the service was prompt ("It wasn't busy so we got in and had our order taken right away"). This suggests that China One prioritizes efficiency, particularly for customers opting for takeout. In terms of the food, this reviewer found the "fried rice was good," indicating a satisfactory preparation of this staple Chinese dish. However, their opinion on the "chow fun" was less enthusiastic, describing it as "okay but not too bland." This suggests that while the chow fun was not particularly flavorful, it was also not entirely unappetizing.
The same reviewer expressed disappointment with the "chicken wings," stating that they were "bland, not much flavor." This is a significant piece of feedback for those who enjoy flavorful chicken wings and might deter them from ordering this particular item. On a more positive note, the reviewer found China One to be "pretty affordable" and "convenient," highlighting two key factors that often drive customer choice, especially for takeout options.
In contrast to the mixed review above, another customer had a significantly more positive experience with a specific dish: the pork lo mein. This reviewer stated emphatically, "I don’t usually write reviews but this one, I can’t refuse! I got an order of pork lo mein and it is one of the best lo mein I have ever had." This strong endorsement suggests that the pork lo mein at China One is a standout dish that has the potential to impress customers. The reviewer did mention that "the pork can be better," indicating that while the noodles were exceptional, the pork itself could be improved. However, they emphasized that "even without the pork, the noodles wind my heart!!" This highlights the exceptional quality of the noodles, which they described as having the "soft and chewy texture which I crave" and being "perfect!"
Further praise for the pork lo mein included the fact that it was "not too oily and not dry, just perfect moisture to it." Achieving the right balance of moisture is crucial for lo mein, and this positive feedback suggests that China One excels in this aspect. The reviewer also commended the freshness of the vegetables, noting that they "taste so fresh and does not taste like chemicals like those in fast food chains." This is a significant advantage, as it suggests a commitment to using quality ingredients. Finally, they mentioned that China One is "just generous with the pork and veggies" in their lo mein, contributing to a satisfying and flavorful dish. The reviewer concluded their enthusiastic review by stating, "I love it!!"
Based on these two reviews, it appears that the quality and flavor of dishes at China One can vary. While the fried rice is generally good and the pork lo mein is highly praised, the chow fun and chicken wings have been noted as bland. The restaurant is perceived as affordable and convenient, making it a potentially attractive option for takeout, especially for those seeking a budget-friendly meal.
The reviews provide limited information about the environment of China One. The first reviewer mentioned going in to place a takeout order, implying a physical storefront where customers can enter. The fact that it "wasn't busy" at the time of their visit doesn't give a clear indication of the typical atmosphere or size of the dining area, if one exists. The focus of both reviews is primarily on the food quality and service speed for takeout.
The services offered by China One clearly include takeout, as explicitly mentioned by both reviewers. It is reasonable to assume that they also offer dine-in service, given the presence of a physical address. However, there is no direct feedback in the provided reviews about the dine-in experience, such as the ambiance, seating arrangements, or service style for dine-in customers.
In terms of features, China One's affordability and convenience for takeout seem to be key selling points. The highly praised pork lo mein, with its perfectly textured noodles and fresh vegetables, could also be considered a signature dish that attracts customers. The prompt service for takeout, as noted by one reviewer, is another potential feature that enhances the customer experience for those ordering to go.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Therefore, we cannot comment on any special offers, discounts, or loyalty programs that China One might have in place.
In conclusion, China One in St. Paul offers an affordable and convenient option for Chinese takeout. While the quality of dishes may vary, with some items like the fried rice and pork lo mein receiving positive feedback and others like the chow fun and chicken wings being described as bland, the standout praise for the pork lo mein suggests it is a dish worth trying. The restaurant appears to be efficient for takeout orders. Local users seeking a budget-friendly Chinese meal for takeout in St. Paul might find China One to be a suitable option, particularly if they are inclined to try the highly recommended pork lo mein. However, those with specific preferences for highly flavorful chow fun or chicken wings might want to consider other options based on the feedback provided.

We came to order some take out. It wasn't busy so we got in and had our order taken right away. The fried rice was good, chow fun was okay but not too bland. The chicken wings was bland, not much flavor. They are pretty affordable, and convenient.
I don’t usually write reviews but this one, I can’t refuse! I got an order of pork lo mein and it is one of the best lo mein I have ever had. The pork can be better but even without the pork, the noodles wind my heart!! The soft and chewy texture which I crave is perfect! It’s not too oily and not dry, just perfect moisture to it. The veggies taste so fresh and does not taste like chemicals like those in fast food chains. They are just generous with the pork and veggies. I love it!!
Their dumplings are a meal in itself. The absolute thickest dumplings I have found in the area and goes good with their legit chili oil dipping sauce. I would not be surprised if they handmade these themselves. I like their thick lomein noodles too. More of a "To-Go" place but they do have a few small tables you can eat at inside.
I've been a loyal fan of China One for quite a while now! While I wouldn’t say it’s the absolute best, I always enjoy my meals there. They whip up the most amazing egg foo young—especially when the gravy is fresh, it’s just unbeatable! And don’t even get me started on their egg rolls; they’re a personal favorite of mine! Plus, the service is super quick, which is always a nice bonus.
I ordered takeout last night, I went with the chicken lo mein dinner combo and my girlfriend went with the orange chicken. It was delicious! The serving size was great for the price. Regardless of other reviews, I'd say those two dishes are pretty safe bets.
