Welcome to China One, your local destination for delicious Chinese cuisine right here in Charleston, West Virginia. Located at 4218 MacCorkle Ave SE Unit A, China One offers a wide array of authentic and popular Chinese dishes, perfect for a satisfying meal whether you're dining in the mood for takeout, or craving a convenient delivery to your doorstep. As a valued member of the Charleston community, China One is committed to providing quality food and friendly service that will keep you coming back for more.
While China One might appear unassuming from the outside, described by one satisfied customer as a true "hole in the wall," stepping inside reveals a surprisingly spacious and brightly lit dining area. Though the focus seems to be primarily on takeout and delivery, a few tables are available for those who prefer to enjoy their meal on-site. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual, perfect for a quick and enjoyable bite. Customers have consistently noted the friendly and attentive service, with staff members greeting newcomers with the same warmth as regulars, making everyone feel valued.
China One's menu boasts a comprehensive selection of classic American Chinese favorites that you know and love. From savory fried rice and comforting lo mein to a variety of chicken, beef, and pork dishes, there's something to satisfy every craving. However, what truly sets China One apart is its selection of unique and less commonly seen dishes. Keep an eye out for specialties like General Tao’s Shrimp and Double Cooked Pork, offering a delightful twist on familiar flavors. For those who enjoy customizing their meals, China One offers the convenient option to swap lo mein for rice with their dinner specials, providing greater flexibility to suit your preferences.
Based on glowing customer reviews, the food at China One is a standout. The Shrimp Egg Roll has been lauded as one of the best in the Charleston area, offering a satisfyingly crispy and flavorful start to any meal. However, the real star of the show appears to be the Steamed Dumplings. These are believed to be made in-house, featuring a juicy pork filling encased in a thick and delightfully chewy skin. While perhaps not delicate in their presentation, their delicious and filling nature has made them a firm favorite among patrons.
For a more adventurous culinary experience, consider trying the Dragon and Phoenix, a dish that combines two popular flavors in one. This entrée typically features half General Tso’s Chicken and half Hot and Spicy Shrimp. Customers have the option to customize this further, with one reviewer highly recommending the substitution of Orange Chicken for the General Tso’s. The feedback on these dishes has been overwhelmingly positive, with the shrimp described as large with a pleasant mild spice, and the orange chicken as perfectly saucy and crispy over a bed of rice.
Beyond the exceptional food, China One has also earned praise for its outstanding customer service. One heartwarming review highlighted the staff's willingness to go the extra mile, even accommodating a delivery after a customer error in ordering. This level of dedication to customer satisfaction truly sets China One apart as a caring and reliable local establishment. The reviewer also expressed their particular fondness for the Shrimp Egg Foo Young, describing it as a comforting and highly recommended dish.

Customer Reviews
Was This Place a Secret? I must have driven past China One hundreds—if not a thousand—times and never stopped. As a loyal customer of another Chinese takeout spot in town, I never had a reason to. But tonight, after a quick trip to Lowe’s (because somehow, I always need something from Lowe’s), their menu caught my eye. At first glance, they have all the usual American Chinese favorites, but then I spotted a few dishes I’d never seen before—General Tao’s Shrimp? Double Cooked Pork? And they let you swap lo mein for rice with the dinner specials? Now we’re talking. If you looked up “hole in the wall” in the dictionary, you’d probably see a picture of China One. From the outside, you’d never guess that behind the simple storefront is a surprisingly spacious, brightly lit dining area with just a few tables pushed up against the walls. When I walked in about 30 minutes before closing, all three staff members greeted me like I was a regular. I ordered, and 15 minutes later, I was heading out the door with a piping-hot bag of food. Now, onto the good stuff. The shrimp egg roll? Easily the best-prepared one I’ve had in Charleston in a long time. Not the best ever, but definitely what I’ve been missing. But the real star? The steamed dumplings. These things seem made in-house—juicy pork wrapped in a thick, chewy dumpling skin that’s got a nice bounce to it. Delicate? No. Delicious? Absolutely. And they are filling. For my entrée, I went all in and ordered the Dragon and Phoenix (which, honestly, sounds like a slot machine). It’s half General Tso’s Chicken, half Hot and Spicy Shrimp. I subbed in Orange Chicken for the General Tso’s, and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were big and had just a mild kick, while the orange chicken was saucy, crispy, and perfect over rice. I’ll definitely be back. And if you’ve been missing Corina from that other place that’s gone downhill, you might want to give China One a shot.
I really love the people here, they understood I made a mistake upon ordering and were able to deliver regardless. I just hope I don't make that same mistake again- This is super recommended and I really love to have their Shrimp Egg Foo Young the most, comfort food for me admittedly. I just wish I can support them more.
This will always be our favorite Chinese takeout! The food is always amazing and still piping hot when we get it home. We have tried almost everything on the lunch/dinner combos and we’ve never had a bad meal. The moo shu is one of my husband’s favorite things to get. They are so nice and have very quick service!
SU-PERB Will ONE HUNDRED PERCENT return. Edit: I will not edit every time I go there, but every single time I'm near Charleston I will stop at this place. The food here is the best Chinese that I've had. And I've had some damn good Chinese food. It's just unfortunate that I can't give it more than five stars. And the price is incredibly reasonable
he forgot where he went last time so went here, huge mistake. The chicken coating was mushy and the chicken had an off taste. The vegetable fried rice was pale, not enough soy, and never saw it with cucumbers in it, it was tasteless. The dogs got the chicken.
