Based on available online feedback from local patrons, experiences at China Ocean appear to vary. One customer described their recent food order as unsatisfactory, specifically mentioning issues with the fried rice being hard and tasteless, chicken and broccoli lacking flavor, and a brown sauce with an undesirable gelatinous consistency. They rated the chicken wings as acceptable but ultimately found the overall meal disappointing. This reviewer expressed a desire for more quality Chinese food options in the Newport News area.

In contrast, another customer shared a positive experience, highlighting their consistent satisfaction with China Ocean's delivery service over several years. This reviewer specifically praised the deliciousness of the food and the politeness and friendliness of the delivery driver, whom they recognized as a regular presence, possibly an owner or employee. They particularly recommended the spring rolls as being "perfect" and "yummy," indicating a positive experience with at least one of the menu items.

Considering these contrasting reviews, it suggests that while some aspects of China Ocean, such as their delivery service and certain dishes like the spring rolls, have been well-received, other areas, particularly the quality and flavor of some main dishes, may need attention to ensure consistent customer satisfaction. As a local Chinese restaurant, China Ocean has the opportunity to build a stronger reputation by focusing on the quality and consistency of all its offerings.

The positive feedback regarding their delivery service and spring rolls might be of interest to those seeking a convenient meal option delivered to their home.

To make an informed decision, local customers may want to consider the range of experiences shared by others. While one review indicates significant issues with food quality, another highlights long-term satisfaction with the delivery service and specific menu items. This suggests that the experience at China Ocean might be dish-dependent or that there may have been inconsistencies in food preparation over time.

If you decide to try China Ocean, consider exploring their menu and perhaps starting with items that have received positive feedback, such as the spring rolls. The food was nasty. Plain and simple. Fried rice was hard and tasteless. The chicken wings were okay, 3/10 but it’s hard to mess up wings. And the chicken and broccoli was terrible and flavorless. The brown “sauce” was so thick and a gelatin consistency no matter how much I heated it up. I had to throw it all out. They seem like a hard working family but never again. Sucks that there’s no good Chinese spots in the 757

Never been inside the restaurant but we've had it delivered for many years and it's always been delicious. The driver has always been extremely polite and friendly. I assume he owns or works at the restaurant because it's always the same person. Spring rolls are perfect! Yummy!

This place has really gone downhill. My family moved away right before Covid, and we’ve recently moved back to the area. This used to be our favorite place to get Chinese, but wow, never again. We’ve had them twice since being back, and thought the first time was just an off night. Nope. If you like your food cooked in old oil, dingy looking rice, and poor flavor, this is it.
