About China Moon

China Moon is a Chinese restaurant located at 11700 Memorial Pkwy SW in Huntsville, Alabama. As part of the local Chinese Restaurant category, it offers both a buffet and sit-down dining options for the community. Based on the limited customer reviews available online, experiences at China Moon appear to vary significantly, with some customers finding positive aspects while others have reported notable issues. Potential local diners should consider these contrasting viewpoints when deciding whether to visit.

One reviewer described China Moon as a "nice little buffet to eat and go." They found the "food is good" and the "atmosphere is nice," suggesting a generally positive experience with the food quality and the ambiance of the restaurant. This feedback indicates that China Moon has the potential to provide a satisfactory dining experience, particularly for those who enjoy a buffet format and a pleasant atmosphere.

However, another, more detailed review presented a considerably negative experience. This customer prefaced their feedback by stating their reluctance to leave negative reviews but felt compelled to share their honest experience. Several issues were highlighted, starting with the dim lighting, which, while initially acceptable, became problematic when trying to discern the food and drinks.

The reviewer recounted an issue with the tea service, noting that one container was empty. Upon inquiring about the sweetness of the remaining tea, they were incorrectly informed that it was sweet, leading to the customer filling a cup of unsweetened tea that had to be discarded. This indicates a potential lack of attentiveness or knowledge from the staff regarding the beverages being served.

A more concerning issue involved the fountain soda machine, which the reviewer reported having flies inside, some of which ended up in their drink. After showing this to the staff, they opted for a canned coke from the cooler instead. This raises significant concerns about the cleanliness and maintenance of the beverage dispensing equipment at China Moon.

The reviewer also shared their experience with the Sweet & Sour chicken, a common dish at Chinese-American restaurants. While they didn't find it "horrible," they noted that it was different from the usual preparation, featuring "huge pieces" with a "kind've spongy" texture. They remained neutral on the taste but also mentioned the unusual coincidence that several pieces were shaped like "small, eh, 'animals'," which was humorously exacerbated by the preceding negative experiences.

Finally, the reviewer described a particularly unpleasant experience with the fortune cookies, a staple at many Chinese restaurants. They reported that the cookies seemed significantly past their expiration date, being so hard that they almost broke a tooth and had to spit it out, comparing the texture to "biting into glass." This suggests a potential issue with the freshness and quality control of even the complimentary items offered at the end of the meal.

The reviewer concluded that their visit was a "bad one" but expressed a willingness to give China Moon another chance in the future, after some time had passed, demonstrating an open-mindedness that everyone can have an off day. They also stated their intention to update their review if a future experience proves to be better. This detailed negative account raises serious questions about the food and beverage quality, cleanliness, and potentially the staff's attentiveness at China Moon.

Considering these two contrasting reviews, the experience at China Moon appears to be inconsistent. While one customer enjoyed the buffet and atmosphere, another encountered multiple significant issues related to drink quality, cleanliness, food preparation, and the freshness of even the fortune cookies. The dim lighting, while acceptable to one, contributed to the other's unease about the food and drinks.

The service aspect is only briefly touched upon. The positive review mentions a "nice" atmosphere, which could imply satisfactory service. However, the negative review highlights a staff member providing incorrect information about the tea and the presence of flies in the soda machine, which were shown to both a gentleman and a woman on staff. This suggests potential issues with staff training, attentiveness to cleanliness, or both.

Given the limited information on the environment beyond the mention of a "nice" atmosphere and dim lighting, it's difficult to provide a comprehensive description. The buffet style mentioned by one reviewer suggests a self-service format for at least part of the dining experience.

As no promotional information was included in the provided reviews, it is not possible to comment on any current or past offers from China Moon. To address the serious concerns raised in the negative review and potentially attract more local customers, China Moon should prioritize a thorough review and improvement of their cleanliness standards, particularly for beverage dispensers. Ensuring staff are knowledgeable about the food and drinks being served is also crucial. Attention should be paid to the quality and freshness of all food items, including complimentary ones like fortune cookies. Addressing the preparation of dishes like the Sweet & Sour chicken to meet typical customer expectations might also be beneficial. Actively soliciting and responding to customer feedback could help identify and rectify any ongoing issues. If they offer any specials or discounts, promoting these clearly could also help attract local diners, especially if coupled with assurances of improved quality and cleanliness.

In conclusion, China Moon in Huntsville, Alabama, presents a mixed picture based on the available customer reviews. While one customer enjoyed the buffet and atmosphere, another reported significant issues with drink quality, cleanliness, food preparation, and the freshness of complimentary items. Local users considering dining at China Moon should be aware of these contrasting experiences and perhaps exercise caution, particularly regarding the buffet and fountain drinks. The restaurant would benefit from addressing the serious concerns raised to ensure a more consistent and positive dining experience for all its customers.

I have to be honest on this one, it wasn't a good experience. I try to refrain from leaving a review at all if it's not positive, but I feel I wouldn't be fair here if I didn't leave the honest feedback. It was dimly lit, which is fine...until you begin to question what you are eating or drinking and can't see it that well. One of the tea containers were empty, so I asked if the other one was sweet. The gentleman stated that it was sweet (it wasn't as I soon realized, I filled an entire cup of unsweet that I ended up pouring out). I then got a second drink, an orange soda from the fountain machine and I immediately realized the soda machine had flies in it (now in my drink, see photo). I did nicely show the gentleman as well as the woman, then poured out that drink as well. I ended up getting a can coke from the cooler. The chicken. Well, I ordered Sweet & Sour chicken...it wasn't horrible, but it was a bit different than the usual sweet & sour chicken you get at similar restaurants; huge pieces, kind've spongy, but again not bad so I'm neutral on the chicken. I hesitate to add that several of the pieces were coincidentally shaped like small, eh, "animals" which was only exaggerated by the fact that the experience had been a rough one thus far. Lastly, the fortune cookies. I do love to get the fortune cookies at this type of restaurant...I will usually eat the cookie & read the fun little messages. I would venture to say these particular cookies were significantly past their expiration date, I seriously about broke a tooth before having to spit it out, it was like biting into glass. Unfortunately, this visit was a bad one. I may give it another shot in the future (after some time has passed) because I try to be open minded that everyone has a bad day. Will update review if a future experience is better.

Really quick service considering that we walked in and ordered. Less than 10 mins, our food was piping hot and smelled delicious. They even packaged it up nice for us with extra sauces. It was just as tasty as always when we got home. I did have trouble navigating their app for online ordering, so we ordered in person.

The service was good, but when I got my sesame chicken home it was not good. I contacted the store and they gladly gave me a full refund. I believe this might have been an off day for them and I will give them another shot based on the kindness of the staff. Definitely good people.
