About China Max

Welcome to China Max, your local Chinese restaurant situated at 714 Greenville Blvd SE, Greenville, NC 27858, USA. As a Chinese restaurant in the Greenville area, China Max has been noted for its approach to serving food via a steam table, offering a variety of dishes ready for immediate consumption. They can be contacted at (252) 215-0398 or via mobile phone at +1 252-215-0398 for inquiries.

When considering a restaurant, especially one with a unique service style like a steam table, customer reviews can offer valuable insights into the experience. For China Max, the available feedback presents a narrative of change and inconsistency over time, with initial praise followed by disappointment in more recent experiences.

One long-time customer initially lauded China Max as a "great bastion of Chinese food steam table deliciousness," emphasizing "Maximum taste, Maximum quantity, Maximum service" at a notably low price of $9.99 for a three-item feast. This reviewer specifically recommended the Orange Chicken and Chicken with Broccoli, also mentioning the "delicious noodles" served beneath the meat portions. They even advised planning for potential 30-60 minute waits when the mall is open, suggesting popularity and high traffic during peak times.

However, this same reviewer later posted an update expressing significant disappointment. They lamented that China Max had seemingly adopted a "save a buck mentality" by changing recipes, resulting in a decline from "Maximum taste" to "Maximum disappointment." This update indicates a perceived drop in food quality over time, leading the reviewer to bid farewell to the restaurant after what they considered a good run.

Adding to the more recent negative feedback, another customer reported a poor experience with a to-go plate. They found the bourbon chicken to be "burned and dry" and another chicken entree to be "not seasoned well." This customer concluded that none of the food on their plate was good and recommended trying one of the "many better choices around town." This review reinforces the concern about declining food quality and suggests that the issues may not be isolated.

Based on these reviews, China Max appears to have undergone a change in quality, with initial positive experiences giving way to more recent disappointment. While it was once praised for its taste, quantity, service, and price, more recent feedback indicates a decline in food quality, with complaints of blandness, dryness, and poor seasoning. This inconsistency makes it challenging to provide a definitive assessment of the current state of the restaurant.

As a Chinese restaurant with a steam table format, China Max likely offers a selection of popular American Chinese dishes that are kept warm and ready to serve. This format allows for quick service and the ability to choose multiple items for a single price, as highlighted in the earlier positive review. Typical offerings might include a variety of chicken dishes (like Orange Chicken, General Tso's, and Bourbon Chicken), beef and broccoli, various fried rice and noodle options, and possibly some vegetable dishes and appetizers. The specific selection available on the steam table may vary daily.

The environment of a steam table Chinese restaurant is usually focused on efficiency and quick service. Customers typically serve themselves from the various dishes displayed on the steam table, and seating is available for those who wish to dine in. The earlier positive review mentioned potential wait times when the mall is open, suggesting a busy and perhaps somewhat bustling atmosphere during peak hours. However, the reviews do not offer specific details about the decor or overall ambiance of China Max.

The service at a steam table restaurant primarily involves the staff maintaining the food on the table, handling payments, and assisting customers as needed. The initial positive review mentioned "Maximum service," which implies efficient and helpful staff. However, the more recent negative reviews do not comment on the service itself, focusing instead on the food quality. Therefore, it's difficult to ascertain the current standard of service at China Max based solely on the provided feedback.

A key feature of China Max, as highlighted in the earlier review, was its steam table format offering a three-item feast for a low price of $9.99. The combination of variety, quantity ("Maximum quantity"), and affordability was clearly a draw for some customers. The inclusion of noodles beneath some of the meat dishes was also mentioned as a positive aspect. However, the recent decline in food quality may have diminished these initial advantages.

Promotional information is limited to the mention of the $9.99 three-item feast in one of the earlier positive reviews. It is unclear if this promotion is still ongoing or if China Max currently offers any other specials or discounts. Local users may need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any current promotional offers.

For local users in Greenville, NC, considering China Max, it is crucial to take into account the conflicting and evolving feedback from customers. While the restaurant was once highly regarded for its tasty and affordable steam table offerings, more recent reviews indicate a significant decline in food quality, with complaints of bland, dry, and poorly seasoned dishes. The experience appears to have shifted from "Maximum taste" to "Maximum disappointment" for at least one long-term patron.

Given this information, potential customers should approach China Max with caution. The convenience of a steam table and the previously praised affordability may no longer outweigh the reported issues with food quality. It might be wise to seek more recent reviews from other sources to get a broader understanding of the current customer experience. Alternatively, exploring other Chinese restaurant options in the Greenville area that have consistently positive recent feedback might be a more reliable choice.

In conclusion, China Max in Greenville, NC, is a Chinese restaurant known for its steam table service. While it once enjoyed a reputation for tasty, plentiful, and affordable food with good service, more recent customer reviews indicate a significant decline in food quality. Local users should be aware of this evolving feedback when considering dining at or ordering from China Max.

UPDATE: We live in a fickle world and I am no different when there are so many FOOD options to choose from. Sadly, this once great bastion of Chinese food steam table deliciousness (see my full review) has fallen to the 'I'm going to change my recipes and see if no one notices to save a buck mentality'. What once was Maximum taste, has become Maximum disappointment. Farewell, we had a good run!!! Maximum taste, Maximum quantity, Maximum service... The only thing that isn't Maximum is the PRICE! Only $9.99 daily for a (3) item feast. Miss this ready -to- eat, steam table gem and you've made a Maximum mistake. Love the Orange Chicken and Chicken with Broccoli. BTW, the is a bed of delicious noodles under the generous portions of meat!!! NOTE: When the Mall opens, you may have to wait 30-60 minutes for food, plan accordingly.

China max has decent food and they give you alot. Best things there are the honey mustard chicken and bourbon chicken. Also FYI, you can get half rice and half noodles instead of only one or the other

The Japanese ramen is basically instant ramen. Absolutely gross, lettuce in ramen too? That doesn’t belong.
