While the restaurant may present itself as a place to enjoy Chinese cuisine, the recent customer reviews available online paint a very negative picture of the dining experience at China Lotus. These reviews raise significant concerns regarding food quality, preparation, taste, and even customer service.
One detailed review recounts a particularly disappointing experience where a substantial amount of money was spent on two meals, crab rangoon, and spring rolls, only to find the food inedible upon arriving home. The reviewer highlighted several critical issues. Firstly, when attempting to inquire about the flavors of dishes that deviated from standard Chinese fare, the staff appeared uninformed, with one employee stating it was only their second day. Despite this lack of clarity, the order was placed, leading to significant disappointment. The meals were described as having large portions but lacking any sauce, resulting in dry chicken and a "weird" steak meat served over dry noodles, with one such dish priced at $20. The sesame chicken was also reported to be dry and completely flavorless. Furthermore, the crab rangoon was described as a large, flavorless ball of cream cheese with minimal crab, and the spring rolls were noted to have very little filling and were overcooked. The reviewer expressed extreme disappointment at wasting nearly $80 on food that had to be thrown away, describing the overall experience as "absolutely atrocious" and hoping for significant improvement in the restaurant's standards.
Another review echoed similar sentiments of dissatisfaction, stating that the food was "no where near fresh" and of very disappointing quality and portion size. This reviewer also found the prices to be "outrageous," questioning why the restaurant seemed so proud of their food, especially considering the poor quality. They mentioned that the restaurant used to have great food, which justified the higher prices in the past, but their recent experience was so negative that they couldn't even eat two bites before discarding the food. While they did note that the egg rolls were "not too bad," they concluded that for the total cost of $80, the meal was not worth it and vowed never to return.
Considering these two recent and highly critical reviews, there are severe concerns about the fundamental aspects of China Lotus as a Chinese restaurant. The issues raised include a lack of flavor in multiple dishes, dryness, poor quality of ingredients (or preparation), misleading descriptions or a lack of knowledge from the staff about the food, and exorbitant pricing that does not align with the quality received. The significant discrepancy between the cost and the edibility of the food is a major point of contention in both reviews.
As a Chinese restaurant, China Lotus would typically be expected to offer a range of classic dishes that are flavorful, properly prepared, and reasonably priced. The negative feedback suggests a failure to meet these basic expectations. Potential customers might anticipate finding items like fried rice, noodle dishes, various chicken, beef, and seafood entrees with different sauces and vegetables, as well as appetizers like spring rolls and crab rangoon. However, the descriptions provided by these reviewers indicate that the actual execution of these common dishes is severely lacking at China Lotus.
There is no information available regarding any promotional offers or special deals that China Lotus might be currently offering. Given the strongly negative recent feedback concerning the food quality and pricing, it would be prudent for local residents to approach this restaurant with extreme caution. Those interested in learning more about their menu or any potential improvements might consider contacting the restaurant directly using the provided phone numbers, but the recent reviews serve as a significant warning about the potential dining experience.
In conclusion, the recent customer reviews for China Lotus in Hammond, LA, are overwhelmingly negative, citing issues with food quality, lack of flavor, dryness, small portions for high prices, and even uninformed staff. These are serious concerns that potential local diners should be aware of. The feedback suggests a significant decline in the restaurant's standards, with customers expressing deep disappointment and vowing not to return. Based on this information, it would be advisable for individuals seeking a satisfactory Chinese dining experience in Hammond to consider alternative options with more positive and recent customer feedback. The reported issues at China Lotus raise serious questions about its ability to provide edible and enjoyable Chinese cuisine.

Customer Reviews
We went to China Lotus 04 Feb 2024 to try it out as I saw it on Facebook, and it appeared to be a fun place to try. After spending almost $80.00 on (2) meals, an order of Crab Rangoon and (2) spring rolls we got home, and the food was not edible. I rarely leave bad reviews as I understand establishments have bad days and the food service industry is tough, but this was an exception to the rule. First issue was when asking the staff what the flavors were in certain dishes as they were not the 'normal' Chinese dishes, we were left with blank stares and "This is only my second day' comments. We ordered anyways in hopes they were good. We got home and pulled the food out and though it was large portions, there was NO sauce. Basically, dry chicken and a weird steak meat that was over some dry noodles with no sauce and that dish was $20.00 alone. We also ordered sesame chicken and that was dry as well and completely flavorless. The Crab Rangoon tasted like a big ball of cream cheese with no crab rolled up and fried in a wonton and the spring rolls had little to no filling and were overcooked to say the least. Ultimately, I was very disappointed to have wasted almost $80 on dinner to just throw it in the trash. I even thought of repurposing the meat into another dish but couldn't get past the blandness and overall weird texture. I hope they get better at their craft as last night's experience was absolutely atrocious.
1st the food was no where near fresh. Very disappointing quality and size of portion. 2nd the proce was outrageous. They are very proud of their food. Not sure why. They used to have great food. So you didn't mind that it was pricey. We couldn't even eat our food 2 bites and it went into the trash. I will say the egg rolls not too bad. But for 80 bucks not worth it. Won't be back..... ever
When I called to place my order, at the end all I asked was as for my total and the lady was so rude. Her words her exactly “what do you need to know your total for.” I was not to the lady at all so I’m unsure what the attitude was about. I called on 3/02/2025 @ 3:10pm.
I recently had lunch at China Lotus with my family after church, and unfortunately, we felt incredibly unwelcome. The service was disappointing, as the waitstaff was rude, which really took away from the experience. I’ve always enjoyed the food at China Lotus, but the negative atmosphere has made us reconsider returning.
China Lotus is our FAVORITE restaurant in Hammond! My husband and I have been eating here for over 10 years! The staff is always great! Christina always remembers exactly what we like to order. As far as the food goes it’s phenomenal and by far the best Chinese restaurant in Tangipahoa!
