About China King

China King, located at 13220 N Pennsylvania Ave in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, falls under the Chinese restaurant category, providing a range of dishes and services to local patrons. Based on the available customer reviews, China King appears to offer a consistent dining experience with a unique atmosphere and commendable service. To provide a detailed introduction for local users, we will explore the environment, services, and features highlighted in the feedback.

One reviewer specifically appreciated the atmosphere of China King, describing it as having "character" and feeling like "stepping back in time," in contrast to many modern establishments. This suggests that the restaurant might feature a more traditional or classic decor, which some customers find appealing and comforting. For those who appreciate a nostalgic ambiance over contemporary designs, China King could offer a welcoming and familiar setting. The reviewer's sentiment of not liking how "everything is trying to be 'modern'" indicates a preference for the established and perhaps less trendy environment of China King.

In terms of services, the reviews mention both buffet and a la carte options. One customer noted that while the buffets appeared "low," this was during a "VERY BUSY time of day," suggesting that the restaurant can get crowded, and the buffet is a popular offering. The mention of a server, Anna, who provided "wonderful" service, indicates that table service is also part of their offerings, at least for those not opting for the buffet. Anna is described as attentive without being intrusive and even provided a thoughtful Chinese New Year calendar at the end of the meal, highlighting a personal and considerate touch in their service. This suggests that China King values customer care and strives to create positive dining experiences through their staff.

The features of China King, as praised by the customers, include the consistent quality and taste of their food over many years, according to one long-time patron. This reliability in their culinary offerings is a significant draw for regular customers who appreciate knowing what to expect. Another notable feature mentioned is their "amazing catfish," which is an unexpected but highly appreciated item in a Chinese restaurant, suggesting a broader menu that might include non-traditional offerings. The "fried bread" is also highlighted as being "so fluffy and delicious" and notably not dried out, setting it apart from similar items at other places. Additionally, the "sweet and sour chicken" was described as "so fresh and crispy and delicious," indicating attention to the quality and preparation of this popular dish.

The positive feedback from multiple customers underscores the strengths of China King. The long-term satisfaction of one family suggests a consistent standard of food and service over an extended period. The positive experience of another customer on their first visit, particularly noting the excellent catfish, fried bread, and sweet and sour chicken, indicates that these are likely standout items on their menu. The acknowledgment of the busy period affecting the buffet suggests that the restaurant is a popular choice among locals, which often speaks to the quality and value they provide.

Considering the positive aspects highlighted in these reviews, China King appears to be a reliable and well-regarded Chinese restaurant in Oklahoma City. The consistent food quality, the unique retro atmosphere, and the friendly and attentive service, as exemplified by Anna, are significant features that contribute to a positive dining experience. The unexpected popularity of their catfish, along with well-prepared traditional dishes like sweet and sour chicken and their distinctive fried bread, suggest a diverse and appealing menu.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but reading all of these negative reviews made me really sad. My family and I have been coming to eat here at China King for YEARS and we have never been disappointed. The food is always good, and the taste is consistent. I honestly appreciate the atmosphere; I don't like how everything is trying to be "modern" and I feel like I'm stepping back into time here. There's actually character here. Our server Anna was wonderful; she took great care of us and never pestered us or anything. Even at the end of our meal she gave us a Chinese New Year calendar which was incredibly thoughtful. We'll always come back!

My best friend took me for a girls' lunch date. They have amazing catfish!!! Their buffets were low, but we also went at a VERY BUSY time of day. The fried bread is so fluffy and delicious, not dried out like most places. The sweet and sour chicken was so fresh and crispy and delicious. I will definitely be returning.

The servers didn't do anything except gossip with each other right next to us. Most of the food was room temperature and tasted poorly and like it was recently thawed from a bag. For a decently sized building that's a buffet there was very few food selections. It was nearly empty and extremely quiet creating what felt like an awkward and judging environment. Me and my fiance were honestly tempted to just dine and fish because it was that bad... But we paid and went home anyways less than a five minutes drive later back home and we were already sick with food poisoning. We barely ate anything and still payed close to $50 for the two of us.

This was north OKC. 1st time we eat here and the last. It was about 12:00 and there were others there, not packed but people. The food was cold and not just room temp buy like it was pulled out of a fridge and the food warmer hadn't warmed it up yet. It looked very appetizing but didn't taste right, except for the fried fish. The wontons tasted like the cream cheeze was spoiled or dehydrated from a powder, which is horrible for eating. The butter crab and cheese was as well. This place needs a new menu or cook or something. The server was ok, and the atmosphere was what you'd expect from a Chinese buffet.

It was clean and fairly quiet. They had two complete buffet tables that remained out of food from 8:00pm-9:00pm. I was in a group of 7, and we each got about half a plate of food, and ice cream due to them out of food. The food they did have was dry and old. We spent over $100, and stopped for fast food after we left. We were very disappointed, didn’t want to pay, but would rather not cause a scene.
