About China House Restaurant

Welcome to China House Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at 3581 Tynecastle Hwy in Banner Elk, NC. As a local Chinese eatery, China House Restaurant appears to be a popular choice for those seeking to satisfy their cravings for Chinese cuisine, particularly through their takeout service. Based on recent customer reviews, China House Restaurant offers a mix of experiences, with some dishes receiving high praise and others falling short.

One notable aspect highlighted in the reviews is the generous portion sizes, particularly for entrees like the orange chicken, which one customer described as "huge." This can be a significant draw for those looking for substantial meals. The same reviewer also noted that the noodles were good, suggesting that some of the basic dishes are prepared to a satisfactory standard.

However, not all dishes received positive feedback. One concerning comment mentioned that the "pork fried rices were not fried or cooked whatsoever," with the reviewer stating they "definitely would’ve gotten sick if we ate it." This is a serious issue regarding food preparation and quality control that potential customers should be aware of. The same reviewer ironically mentioned having a "wonderful time in the bathroom," which, in the context of the uncooked rice, raises further concerns about food safety and hygiene.

Despite this significant negative feedback regarding the pork fried rice, another reviewer expressed strong positive sentiments, calling China House Restaurant the "best fix for your chinese food cravings." This suggests a degree of inconsistency in the food quality or perhaps a difference in the dishes ordered. This reviewer also indicated a preference for takeout, mentioning that they "always get takeout" whenever they are in town and that the restaurant itself is small, implying they have never dined in.

This second reviewer specifically recommended "basic dishes like general Tao’s chicken, orange chicken, etc.," suggesting that these are reliable and satisfying options at China House Restaurant. They also noted that the "spicy beef is pretty good and comes with lots of veggies," which could be an appealing choice for those who enjoy a bit of heat and a generous serving of vegetables.

The shrimp egg roll received a more lukewarm review, described as "ok." The reviewer elaborated that it contains a medium-sized shrimp with "barely any veggie fillings," making it "pretty much just shrimp and the egg roll skin." This level of detail can be helpful for customers with specific preferences regarding the filling-to-shrimp ratio in their egg rolls.

A standout dish for this reviewer, particularly during the winter months, is the "shrimp with lobster sauce," which they consider a "must get especially when in town during the winter." This suggests that the shrimp with lobster sauce is a specialty or a consistently well-prepared dish that is highly recommended.

Based on the available reviews, China House Restaurant appears to be primarily utilized for takeout, likely due to the small size of the dining area mentioned by one customer. The service aspect for dine-in customers is not extensively covered in these reviews, so it is difficult to form a comprehensive opinion on that aspect.

In summary, China House Restaurant in Banner Elk seems to offer large portions of some popular Chinese dishes like orange chicken and general Tao's chicken, which are well-received by some customers. Their spicy beef with vegetables and shrimp with lobster sauce also appear to be favored. However, there are significant concerns raised about the preparation of certain dishes, specifically the uncooked pork fried rice, which raises potential food safety issues. The shrimp egg roll is described as average, with a focus on the shrimp rather than vegetable filling. The restaurant itself is small, suggesting that takeout might be their primary mode of service.

For local users in Banner Elk and the surrounding areas seeking a Chinese restaurant, China House Restaurant offers a convenient option for takeout. If you are craving basic Chinese dishes and appreciate generous portions, particularly of items like orange chicken, it might be worth considering. However, the reported issue with the uncooked pork fried rice should give potential customers pause and perhaps encourage them to inquire about the preparation methods or consider other menu items.

China House Restaurant is located at 3581 Tynecastle Hwy in Banner Elk. They can be contacted at (828) 898-3533 or +1 828-898-3533 for placing takeout orders or for any inquiries regarding their menu and food preparation.

Given the mixed feedback, it might be prudent for first-time customers to stick to the more consistently praised dishes like the general Tao's chicken, orange chicken, or shrimp with lobster sauce, and perhaps avoid items that have received negative reviews, such as the pork fried rice. The preference for takeout among reviewers suggests that this might be the best way to experience China House Restaurant.

Local residents looking for a quick Chinese takeout option in Banner Elk might find China House Restaurant suitable for satisfying those cravings, especially for their well-regarded basic dishes and generous portions. However, it is essential to be aware of the reported inconsistencies in food preparation and consider this when making a decision.

Entrees of orange chicken were huge, not complaining, noodles were good too. Pork fried rices were not fried or cooked whatsoever. Definitely would’ve gotten sick if we ate it. I had a wonderful time in the bathroom. Otherwise no complaints.

Best fix for your chinese food cravings. Anytime we’re in town, we always get takeout. The restaurant itself is small, never ate in. You can’t go wrong with the basic dishes like general Tao’s chicken, orange chicken, etc. Their spicy beef is pretty good and comes with lots of veggies. The shrimp egg roll is ok, they use a medium sized shrimp in it with barely any veggie fillings. So it’s pretty much just shrimp and the egg roll skin. The shrimp with lobster sauce is always a must get especially when in town during the winter.

Called in a to go order (online menu is not accurate). Got apps - Chicken wings, vegetable spring rolls and shrimp egg rolls (2 per order). House fried rice (chicken, shrimp and pork). Chicken Cashew (only comes in large, served w white rice) and finally, Hot Sour Soup served with crispy fried wontons. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. The fried foods weren't overly greasy. The soup was thick w crisp ginger, tofu and veggies. The fried rice was moist and tender. Three fresh fortune cookies topped it all off. This was the first of many future orders. Convenient to Sugar Mountain. Dine in offers a $9.95 buffet. Great prices. Super nice Employees.

China House Restaurant is awesome! Better tasting food than many places I’ve been to back in Raleigh, NC. In the five days we were on vacation we had China House twice! General Taos chicken was so good, the sauce was rich. There was more chicken than bread in the container. I would recommend anyone in the area giving China House a chance.
