About China House
Welcome to China House, a well-established Chinese restaurant located at 205 S Berkeley Blvd # B in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Serving the Goldsboro community for over three decades, China House has garnered a reputation for its commitment to quality and flavorful Chinese cuisine. As a long-standing Chinese restaurant in the area, it offers a variety of classic dishes, emphasizing homemade sauces and fresh ingredients.
According to enthusiastic customer reviews, China House stands out for the deliciousness and apparent freshness of its food. One reviewer raved about their experience, describing the egg drop soup (accompanied by crispy noodles) and the orange chicken as exceptional. They specifically noted the fresh quality of the orange chicken, evident from the presence of real orange peel, and appreciated the option of having it extra crispy and spicy. This positive feedback suggests that China House takes pride in preparing its dishes with care and attention to detail, using high-quality ingredients.
The same reviewer also highlighted their wife's equally delightful meal, which included hot and sour soup and Cantonese chicken. Both dishes were described as tasty and flavorful, further reinforcing the restaurant's commitment to culinary excellence. The reviewer was also impressed by the kind hostess who provided excellent care, contributing to a positive overall dining experience. The longevity of China House, mentioned by the hostess as being over 30 years, was attributed to their consistent practice of not skimping on ingredients or opting for cheaper alternatives, a philosophy that reportedly results in food quality superior to that of typical Chinese restaurants today. The affordability, with a cost of only $9.98 per person for the meal plus drinks (as indicated on their bill), was also noted as a significant advantage. This customer strongly recommends making China House a go-to Chinese restaurant, emphasizing the friendly service as an additional draw.
Adding to the positive endorsements, the reviewer also mentioned that the Mongolian beef and lemon chicken dishes are "superb" and encouraged others to try them to experience the quality firsthand. This suggests that China House has a range of well-received dishes beyond the ones initially sampled.
However, not all feedback was entirely positive. Another reviewer, who has been in Goldsboro since January 2001 and thus witnessed the restaurant's long tenure, noted that the decor has not been updated significantly since before their arrival and that it shows signs of wear. This customer described the atmosphere as dark, worn, and somewhat depressing. While they found the food to be "okay" during their recent lunch visit, they characterized the staff as "uninspired." The positives mentioned in this review were the reasonable prices and the fact that they did not get sick after eating there. The reviewer's overall impression was lukewarm, stating that a return visit would be against their will, albeit humorously. This perspective provides a contrasting view, highlighting a potential discrepancy between the quality of the food and the ambiance of the restaurant.
In terms of the environment, China House appears to be a long-established restaurant with a dated decor that some customers might find unappealing. The description of the atmosphere as "dark, worn, and bit depressing" suggests that the aesthetic might not be a strong point. However, the positive reviewer did not comment on the ambiance, focusing instead on the food and service, implying that the quality in these areas might outweigh any shortcomings in the decor for some patrons. The fact that the restaurant has been open for over 30 years suggests a degree of resilience and a loyal customer base, possibly built on factors other than just the visual appeal of the space.
The services offered by China House include dine-in and likely takeout, given that it is a traditional Chinese restaurant. The friendly and attentive service provided by the hostess was specifically praised in one review, indicating that customer care is a priority for at least some of the staff. The longevity of the restaurant suggests a consistent level of service that has allowed them to remain in business for so long. However, the other reviewer's description of the staff as "uninspired" introduces a note of potential inconsistency in service quality.
Features of China House appear to include homemade and tasty sauces, fresh ingredients (as evidenced by the real orange peel in the orange chicken), and a commitment to not using cheap substitutes, which reportedly contributes to the superior taste of their food compared to typical Chinese restaurants. Highly recommended dishes include the egg drop soup, orange chicken (especially when ordered extra crispy and spicy), hot and sour soup, Cantonese chicken, Mongolian beef, and lemon chicken. The reasonable pricing, with a reported cost of around $10 per person for a meal, also stands out as a positive feature. The long-standing presence in the community, exceeding 30 years, speaks to a degree of reliability and consistent quality that has fostered customer loyalty over time.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided customer reviews. In conclusion, China House in Goldsboro offers a compelling combination of delicious, seemingly high-quality Chinese food, friendly service (at least from some staff), and reasonable prices, all within a restaurant that has served the community for over three decades. While the decor might be dated and the atmosphere less than ideal for some, the consistently positive feedback regarding the taste and freshness of their dishes, particularly the orange chicken, egg drop soup, and other mentioned specialties, suggests that the food is the primary draw. For those prioritizing authentic flavors and value over modern aesthetics, China House appears to be a strong contender for a go-to Chinese restaurant in Goldsboro.

DELICIOUS! Homemade! Tasty sauces! I had egg drop soup (with those delicious, crispy noodles), and orange chicken that was obviously fresh with real orange peel, extra crispy + spicy. My sweet wife had hot and sour soup and Cantonese chicken, which also tasted and was equally delicious and flavorful. Our hostess was very kind and took great care of us. This place had been open for over 30 years and the lady said it's because they don't skimp or go cheap on their food, because it's so good compared to a typical Chinese restaurant these days. The cost was only $9.98 each + drink. Look at the bill! You must make this place your go-to Chinese restaurant, with friendly service! BTW, the Mongolian beef and lemon chicken dishes are also superb...Give them a try and SEE!
This place has been here since I arrived at Seymour Johnson AFB January of 2001. The decor hasn’t been updated since well before I arrived and it shows. My wife and I ate here for lunch today and the food was okay, the staff uninspired and the atmosphere is dark, worn and bit depressing. The positives are that the prices are reasonable and I didn’t get sick. If I come back, it will be against my will, LOL!
Delicious food, haven’t even finished eating had to write the review, decent priced 2 person dinner, a lot of food, DELICIOUS Is bigger on the inside than it looks Will return
The service was quick and our server was on point. When a drink was getting low she was there replacing it, along with checking on us multiple times throughout the meal. The food is some of the best our group has had in the area including lenior County. The fried rice was ok but that's no problem. Atmosphere is like a typical Chinese restaurant, it just sucked we were under the ac unit, but the positive we were not hot. I highly recommend this place, I know I'll be back. Photo is aftermath 😆.
My son picked it up. He said it was SO dark and 'sketch'. The food was to go. The bag opened up in the car and the styrofoam container was open. Rice went between the seats Not their fault but a warning, check your bags! Once home The food was reheated in a toaster oven to just warm. Pu pu platter. NOTHING was enjoyable. All bland and tough. The shrimp wasnt cleaned as the vein was still intact. One shrimp was cooked until it was it was evaporated. The beef on a stick was inedible shoe leather. Pork ribs were not as tough but zero flavor. I cant comment on egg rolls or the crab rangoon but my husband said 'meh' The pork fried rice was dry and zero flavor. I had high hopes
