About China House

China House is a Chinese restaurant located at 8781 Monroe Rd, Durand, MI 48429, USA. They can be contacted at (989) 288-2888 or +1 989-288-2888.

Based on customer reviews, experiences at China House appear to be mixed. One reviewer shared a positive experience, noting the friendly employees and generous portions of food, even when dining in. They specifically mentioned enjoying their Christmas Eve meal and indicated their intention to return. This review suggests that China House is a local spot frequented by residents who seem to know "what was best" on the menu.

However, another review presents a starkly contrasting experience. This customer reported that the chicken tasted refried, the rice was old and slimy, and the service from one of the staff members was unwelcoming. Furthermore, this reviewer described the visible state of the kitchen as "DISGUSTING."

China House offers both dine-in and takeout services. While one customer appreciated the large portions and friendly service, another had a very negative experience concerning food quality and restaurant cleanliness. Local users considering China House should be aware of these contrasting opinions when making their decision.

**China House Review** I went to China House, you see, On Monroe Road, in Durand, MI. It isn't much to look at, no, But the food was good, and the staff said hello. On Christmas Eve, we needed a meal, To celebrate my birthday, it was a big deal. Chinese restaurants open on holidays, it's true, And China House was open, just for me and you. We dined in, though it was quite a feat, For the containers were packed with so much to eat. Chicken on top, rice and veggies below, Eating at home, this would be no woe. The locals came in, they knew what was best, China House in Durand, it passed the test. Friendly employees and food galore, We'll be back for more, that's for sure!

Everything was not good at all chicken tasted like it was refried and rice was old and slimey. Lady acted like I was an inconvenience being there. The kitchen was visibly DISGUSTING must I add.

There are a few things they do well but everything else is a hit-or-miss. You pretty much can’t go wrong with their beef lo mein; it’s the one thing that is consistently yummy. Outside of that, we’ve probably ordered from them over a half dozen times in the last 3 years and it’s always disappointing. Their chicken dishes are often bland, dry and kind of startling bleached-white. They have that super weird yellow-hued rice (turmeric seasoning maybe?) that seems to be a Shiawassee county thing — we’ve experienced it at a few different Asian restaurants out here. I grew up in metro Detroit and fried rice is supposed to be brown — not neon orange. Their gravy is pretty disgusting and every time I’ve got dumplings (either in my wonton soup or fried), they seem undercooked and borderline raw. That said, 3 stars because for $6ish, you can get the lunch special from 11am-2pm with what seems like nearly a pound of pretty great beef lo mein and odd-colored but otherwise passable fried rice.

General Tso's Chicken (could be a touch spicier in my personal opinion) from this place is great, so is the sweet and sour chicken and beef lo mein! I've eaten in the place before, nothing to write home about; small, clean. Cooks and cashier are friendly.
