About China Gourmet

China Gourmet, located at 214 N El Camino Real ste b in Encinitas, CA, offers a selection of Chinese dishes to the local community. As a Chinese restaurant in the area, it aims to provide a convenient dining option for those seeking familiar flavors.

Customer reviews present mixed opinions on the dining experience at China Gourmet. One customer, who had been waiting to try the restaurant after its opening, reported a positive experience. They ordered honey walnut shrimp, pan-fried dumplings, and sizzling chicken a la mandarin, noting that the food was served very hot with just the right flavors. They also praised the great and attentive service from the friendly staff, stating that China Gourmet has become their favorite Chinese restaurant.

However, another customer who visited with friends had a more disappointing experience. While they were seated immediately and found the service to be good and attentive, they were not satisfied with the food. The garlic chicken was described as having a good amount of fatty pieces and being overly salted. The salt and pepper chicken wings reportedly had a shrimpy taste, raising concerns about shared fryers with seafood. Additionally, while the center of the cream cheese wontons was nice and creamy, the edges of the wrappers seemed old or stale. This customer concluded that they would not recommend China Gourmet, suggesting there might be better options in the area.

I got honey walnut shrimp, pan fried dumplings, and sizzling chicken a la mandarin. I'm always in this mall area, and have been waiting to try this place out once it opened. Their service was great! The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was very hot and flavors were just right. My roommates and I ate these dishes for dinner, this has become our favorite Chinese restaurant.

Went here with 2 of my friends and was seated immediately, service was good, they were very attentive. The food itself was pretty disappointing, ordered the garlic chicken and had a good amount of fatty pieces as well as overly salted, ordered the slat and pepper chicken wings and it did have a shrimpy taste to it, not sure if they have separate fryers for seafood and others. Also had the cream cheese wontons and the center part was nice and creamy but the edge of the wrappers seemed like it was kind of old/stale tasting I’m not sure if the wrappers have been sitting out before being prepped and cooked. I would not recommend coming here since I feel like there are better places to go in the area

OMG, amazing service. Lots of staff, very attentive…they think about when to serve the food and the senior gent working the room (I presume he is the owner) is an absolute charmer. I had the dumplings and seafood crispy noodles. The food was very good too, struck me as Cantonese style. Reasonably busy on a random Tuesday night, always a good sign. Lots of regulars too so they must be doing something right. I was visiting alone on a work trip.

Stopped by Bevmo after work and decided to order out from this new Chinese restaurant next door. The host in the front was very sweet and gave me a rewards card to earn a free entrée after a certain amount of points. Interior decor looked nice. Very clean and traditional. As for the food unfortunately it was a huge miss for me.... A bit pricey for the portions on the meat entrees. Also I did not realize it was $6 to add on only ONE piece of fried shrimp, an egg roll and a small cup of soup...robbery. Apps Egg Drop Soup: Bland and oily Egg Roll: Avg Fried Shrimp: Probably the most unique thing I tried. I was of fan of the batter they used. It almost tasted like fried sweet corn bread. I could eat a plate of these. Pork Chow Fun: No color. Lacked green onions. Bland with a strange rancid smell that I could not pin point. Braised Eggplant: Usually my favorite dish. Flavor was there but it was drowned out by the oil unfortunately Honey Walnut Shimp: Batter texture was great but where was the sauce?!?! Missing all the flavor... Tangerine Beef Lv 2: Probably the most disappointing dish. Zero tangerine whatsoever. I could only taste soy sauce with a little sugar. No spice at Lv 2 out of 5. Texture was very dry like beef jerky. I'd come back for that fried shrimp but otherwise it was 4 strikes out on the entrées for me ‍

Ordered the Pu Pu Platter, and it was an absolute disappointment. It was incredibly unappetizing (both in appearance and taste) with a sad assortment of overcooked items. The paper-wrapped chicken tasted sour, and I was worried about it not sitting well, so I didn't eat it. The chicken skewer was dry and looked beat up. Fortune cookies were the only thing I enjoyed. Will not be ordering from here again.
