About China Garden Restaurant
China Garden Restaurant, located at 4200 S East St Suite #19 in Indianapolis, IN 46227, is a Chinese restaurant serving the local community. Recent customer reviews, however, raise significant concerns regarding the accuracy of menu items, the quality of certain dishes, and the overall cleanliness of the establishment. Potential local users should carefully consider this feedback when making dining decisions.
One particularly alarming review details a customer's experience with the beef and broccoli dish. This individual reported that the meat they received was, in their strong opinion (99% certainty), not beef but pork. They noted that the meat had a pork-like smell and a very light color, further solidifying their suspicion of misidentification. This is a serious issue, especially for customers who avoid pork for dietary, religious, or personal reasons. Such a discrepancy between the menu description and the actual food served can lead to significant dissatisfaction and a breach of trust.
Another customer shared a negative experience with multiple items. They stated that China Garden Restaurant was "not our favorite," indicating an overall unsatisfactory experience. Specifically, they mentioned that the crab rangoon contained only cream cheese, lacking the crab filling that is typically expected in this dish. This suggests a potential cost-cutting measure or a deviation from standard preparation that disappointed the customer. Furthermore, they reported that the sauce on their granddaughter's General Tso's chicken was "bitter" and had an unusually thick, almost syrupy consistency. This indicates a significant issue with the flavor and texture of a popular dish, making it unappetizing for the consumer.
Beyond the food quality, this second reviewer also raised concerns about the cleanliness of the restaurant, stating that it "could use some deep cleaning." This is a critical aspect of any food establishment, as hygiene directly impacts the health and safety of customers. A lack of cleanliness can deter potential diners and raises questions about the standards maintained in the kitchen as well.
Based on these two recent reviews, China Garden Restaurant appears to have significant issues with food quality and potentially with the accuracy of its menu descriptions. The alleged substitution of pork for beef is a serious concern. The poor quality of the crab rangoon and the General Tso's chicken sauce further indicate problems with recipe execution and ingredient quality. Additionally, the reported lack of cleanliness in the restaurant environment is a major red flag for health and safety.
The environment of China Garden Restaurant is not described in detail beyond the mention of needing a deep cleaning. This suggests that the ambiance and décor were not notable enough to warrant specific comments, or perhaps were overshadowed by the negative aspects of the experience. A restaurant in need of deep cleaning might present an unappealing and potentially unsanitary dining space.
The services offered by China Garden Restaurant can be inferred to include dine-in and likely takeout, as is typical for most Chinese restaurants. The reviews do not mention delivery services or online ordering. Given the concerns raised about food quality and cleanliness, potential customers might be hesitant to utilize any of these services without further positive feedback or assurances of improvement.
No promotional information was included in the provided customer reviews. It is common for restaurants to offer lunch specials, combination meals, or other promotions to attract customers. However, in light of the negative feedback regarding food quality and cleanliness, any potential promotions might not be enough to entice cautious local users. It would be advisable for the restaurant to address the fundamental issues raised in these reviews before focusing on promotional efforts.
In conclusion, recent customer reviews for China Garden Restaurant in Indianapolis paint a concerning picture. Allegations of serving pork instead of beef, poorly prepared dishes like crab rangoon and General Tso's chicken, and reported issues with restaurant cleanliness are serious red flags. Local users seeking a reliable and enjoyable Chinese dining experience should be aware of these potential problems. It would be prudent to seek more recent and positive reviews or consider alternative Chinese restaurants in the Indianapolis area until there is evidence of significant improvement at China Garden Restaurant. Potential customers might want to contact the restaurant directly at (317) 781-8677 or +1 317-781-8677 to inquire about the issues raised in these reviews and any steps being taken to address them, but proceeding with caution based on the current feedback is advisable.

Got beef and broccoli here, but this was definitely not beef. It smelled like pork and the meat was. Very light in color. I’m 99% sure this was pork
Not our favorite. Crab ration had only cream cheese in them. The sauce on my granddaughter General Tso’s was bitter and really thick almost like syrup. Restaurant could use some deep cleaning also
Their egg rolls are fire!!!! But you got to watch the customers they will try to steal your food..... They put your bag up there and call out your order and some random person will walk up and pick it up like they bought it.....smh..... They food is that good though
This place is very good! We really like the lunch special. Such a good price for the portions you get. Their rice, orange chicken, and lo mein are all 🔥 I also really enjoy the egg drop wonton soup. We will stop by here for to-go whenever we are around!
I ordered orange chicken and chicken lo mein noodles and it was very greasy, oily and fatty. If you really like super oily foods that make you feel slimy after eating; you may like this place. But after eating this food twice, it never failed to make my stomach churn (in a bad way.)
