As a part of the local Chinese restaurant scene, China Garden aims to provide a variety of Chinese dishes to its customers. Understanding the experiences of other diners can often help in choosing a restaurant. The available customer reviews for China Garden offer some insights into what you might expect. One reviewer shared a positive experience, stating, "Every time my Dad and I go there, the food comes out so hot and fresh. The waitress was wonderful and didn't rush us. The egg rolls were fried just right. I had the chicken with cashews. The veggies in the dish had the right crunching. My dad had the chicken lo mein. We would rather go here than Mai Thai in Jax." This review highlights several positive aspects, including the freshness and temperature of the food upon arrival, attentive and unhurried service from the waitstaff, well-prepared appetizers (egg rolls), and satisfying main dishes with appropriately cooked components (crunchy vegetables in the cashew chicken). The comparison to another local establishment, Mai Thai in Jacksonville, suggests a preference for China Garden's Chinese cuisine.
Another reviewer provided a more general assessment, noting, "The atmosphere like any other Chinese place. Lots of stuff on walls. We don't eat in. Food is your average Chinese food. We like the lo main noodle but it had very little shrimp to noodle ratio." This review offers a glimpse into the restaurant's ambiance, describing it as typical of many Chinese restaurants with a significant amount of wall decor. This customer primarily utilizes the takeout service. They found the food to be "average" in terms of quality, but specifically mentioned liking the lo mein noodles, while also pointing out a potential imbalance in the shrimp to noodle ratio in that particular dish.
Considering these reviews, we can gather a few points about China Garden. Firstly, the positive review emphasizes the freshness and quality of the food, particularly the hot temperature upon serving and the proper texture of ingredients. The service received by this customer was also commendable, with a "wonderful" and unhurried waitress. The specific dishes mentioned, such as the egg rolls, chicken with cashews, and chicken lo mein, were all well-received.
The second review provides a different perspective, suggesting that the food is of an "average" quality. While this is not necessarily negative, it implies that it might not stand out significantly in terms of exceptional flavors or unique preparations. The comment about the atmosphere being typical of a Chinese restaurant with "lots of stuff on walls" is a common observation for many such establishments, often featuring traditional Chinese art, calligraphy, or decorative items. The preference for takeout by this reviewer might indicate convenience or personal preference rather than dissatisfaction with the dine-in environment itself.
The specific feedback about the shrimp lo mein having a low shrimp to noodle ratio is a valuable piece of information for potential customers who enjoy this dish. It suggests that while the noodles themselves are liked, the quantity of shrimp might be less than expected.
Based on the available information, it's challenging to provide a detailed description of the environment beyond the second reviewer's comment about typical Chinese restaurant decor. Many Chinese restaurants aim for a comfortable and family-friendly atmosphere, often incorporating red and gold colors, lanterns, and depictions of Chinese landscapes or cultural symbols. However, without more specific details or visuals, a comprehensive description of China Garden's ambiance is not possible.
Regarding the services offered, China Garden clearly provides both dine-in and takeout options, as indicated by the reviews. The positive review suggests attentive table service. It is reasonable to assume that they also offer standard Chinese restaurant fare, including a variety of appetizers, soups, main courses featuring different meats (chicken, beef, pork, seafood), vegetables, and rice and noodle dishes. To get a complete understanding of their menu, including any vegetarian or specialty options, it would be best to contact them directly or check if they have an online menu.
In terms of features, the positive review highlights the freshness of the food and the quality of preparation, such as the "right crunching" of vegetables and egg rolls fried "just right." These details suggest an attention to proper cooking techniques and ingredient quality, at least in the experiences of this reviewer. The preference for China Garden over another local restaurant implies that they offer something that this customer finds more appealing in their Chinese cuisine.
The second review doesn't explicitly mention unique features, but the liking of their lo mein noodles suggests that this might be a noteworthy dish, even if the shrimp quantity was a concern for that particular customer. It's possible that China Garden has other popular or signature dishes that are not mentioned in these brief reviews.
Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided text. Chinese restaurants often offer lunch specials, family meal deals, or discounts on certain days or for specific order amounts. To find out if China Garden has any ongoing promotions or special offers, you would need to contact them directly or look for local advertisements.
In conclusion, China Garden in Swansboro, NC, appears to be a local Chinese restaurant that offers both dine-in and takeout services. Customer reviews indicate generally positive experiences with the freshness and quality of some dishes, as well as attentive service. The atmosphere is described as typical of a Chinese restaurant. One reviewer found the food to be average overall but enjoyed the lo mein noodles, albeit with a concern about the shrimp ratio. As a local user, considering these points, you might find China Garden to be a reliable option for your Chinese food cravings, especially if you value freshly prepared dishes and good service. For more specific information on their menu, environment, and any current promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

I wasn't sure what to order here so I did several items....I got the vegetable egg Foo Yung (I always measure the goodness by the gravy!) I must say it was perfect...you could taste the iron from the wok! By far the best I have ever had...then the red Thai curry. With chicken...it was delicious not only the taste but the presentation was great! For the third item it was Singapore may fung. It was equally as good! The owner was the server (the server was out) and she was nothing but pleasant. This is not the first visit and will not be the last. I highly recommend this place.
I really wish I could give zero stars. I grew up here and always went there, but I’ve been gone for many years. Moved back home two years ago and definitely had to check it out. I always get the exact same thing every time I go there and it is always amazing. One time it was very old and I called and told them about it and they do not like that. Do not tell them they messed up or it’s a problem. 😠 After reading some of the other reviews, I actually feel a little bit better. Because I honestly thought that maybe they just didn’t like me. Maybe they were just being mean and hateful just to me and maybe the lady was just very grumpy because she didn’t like to see my black face when I walked into the restaurant. That’s really how I felt! But reading the other reviews it’s just her demeanor and how she is all day every day. Hateful. And every single time I walk out of there spending my money I regret it thinking. Why do I come here and let them make me feel this way?? Nine times out of 10. I have that feeling when I walk out. A few weeks ago, I decided to go back it was actually my birthday and I just got back from Florida… And as soon as I walked in, I already knew I should walk out. Her and her son I believe he is definitely talking about me And she would not come up to the register to even ask me what I wanted. I was so very mad at myself that I didn’t walk out right then because I should have. She then stepped back to allow her son to do it because she definitely was not going to do it. And so he walked over with the same grumpy, horrible distasteful attitude. And again I should have walked out. Looking at my order on the counter thinking walk out now! I don’t deserve to be treated like this! I got my order mad with myself yet again. I walked out of that restaurant, knowing full well that I will never ever ever walk in there again!!! They will never treat me that way ever again. Especially as much money as I spend with them weekly!! It won’t ever happen again. Now, when I drive-by, I don’t even look over there. They no longer even exist to me. If you are gonna have a business, you should definitely be mindful of your customers and the way you treat people. I don’t even know if it’s racism as much as it is just being hateful people. I love the food, but I will never spend another dollar in that establishment!! And after reading the reviews I feel so much better that is not just me! They should definitely read these reviews and maybe make some adjustments but honestly, I don’t think they even care!!
I rarely give Chinese restaurants 5 stars, because they're all basically the same, right down to the menu layout. This one is above average. We had fried dumplings and they were ok, but a little well done. The Szechuan chicken and double sauteed pork were pretty good. The veggies were crunchy.
