When choosing a dining option, particularly within the diverse category of Chinese restaurants, it's often helpful to consider the experiences of other customers. The publicly available reviews for China Garden paint a concerning picture regarding food quality and the overall dining experience. Multiple customers have expressed significant dissatisfaction with their recent meals.
One particularly detailed review describes a highly negative encounter, stating, "NASTY, FUNKY, FOOD! When you walk into the restaurant it smells bad, that should have been my first warning, pepper steak was watery, had no flavor, tasted kinda funky and smelled worse, the sesame chicken was like a hard yet doughy substance with no actual chicken in it, think of a burnt hush puppy slathered in sesame sauce, fried rice was discusting, the house lomein was dry, nasty like everything else and it had bokchoy in it, who puts bok choy in lomein? This was literally our last meal here before moving and my family said I pulled a Judas on them with our last meal 🤣🤣🤣 like I hate complaining but seriously Just Order SOMEWHERE ELSE so you don’t suffer like us. Also it was overpriced." This review raises serious red flags about the food's taste, texture, and even smell, suggesting significant issues with the preparation and quality of multiple dishes. The mention of an unpleasant odor upon entering the restaurant further detracts from a positive dining expectation. The reviewer also found the meal to be overpriced, adding another layer of disappointment to their experience.
Another customer shared their disappointment with a specific dish, the sweet and sour chicken combo, stating, "The chicken is an overcooked, dried out, hardened mess. It was truly not edible. I don’t know how they could send this food out of the door in good conscience?" This feedback highlights a severe problem with the preparation of a common Chinese dish, rendering it inedible due to overcooking and dryness. The reviewer's surprise at the restaurant sending out such a dish suggests a lack of quality control.
Adding to the concerns about food quality, the same reviewer also noted an issue with the sweet and sour sauce: "In addition to that, the sweet and sour sauce was an odd dark color. I googled causes and most explanations point towards it being expired or near-expired. I would not be surprised in the least." This observation raises potential food safety concerns, as discolored sauce could indeed indicate spoilage or improper storage. The reviewer's suspicion of the sauce being expired further diminishes confidence in the restaurant's standards.
This was not an isolated incident for this particular customer, as they also mentioned a previous negative experience: "Last time I ordered I received overcooked, dry chicken, but not to this extent. I was hoping it was a one-off, but not so. Lesson learned, I’m done with them." This indicates a recurring issue with the quality of at least one of their chicken dishes, suggesting a consistent problem rather than an isolated mistake. The reviewer's decision not to order from China Garden again underscores the severity of their repeated negative experiences.
The reviewer concluded with a strong recommendation against patronizing the restaurant, stating, "I think it’s fair to say, you’d probably be less angry if you flushed $20 down the toilet instead of wasting it on this so-called food. It’s getting really hard to find any decent American-Chinese food around here." This emphatic statement serves as a strong warning to potential customers, suggesting that the value and quality of the food do not justify the cost. The reviewer's lament about the difficulty in finding good American-Chinese food in the area further emphasizes their disappointment with China Garden.
Based on these recent customer reviews, there is a clear indication of significant issues with the food quality at China Garden. Multiple dishes have been described as poorly prepared, lacking flavor, and even potentially unsafe. The consistency of negative feedback regarding overcooked chicken suggests a recurring problem with their cooking methods for this particular item. The unusual color of the sweet and sour sauce raises concerns about the freshness and safety of their ingredients.

I ordered the sweet and sour chicken combo tonight. The chicken is an overcooked, dried out, hardened mess. It was truly not edible. I don’t know how they could send this food out of the door in good conscience? In addition to that, the sweet and sour sauce was an odd dark color. I googled causes and most explanations point towards it being expired or near-expired. I would not be surprised in the least. Last time I ordered I received overcooked, dry chicken, but not to this extent. I was hoping it was a one-off, but not so. Lesson learned, I’m done with them. Based on their apparent low standards, I wonder if they also own the one on Buffalo Lake Road? I think it’s fair to say, you’d probably be less angry if you flushed $20 down the toilet instead of wasting it on this so-called food. It’s getting really hard to find any decent American-Chinese food around here.
This used to be the best Chinese Food around. When new owners took over it went downhill quickly. Some of the food tastes pretty close to the original but the portions went way down and the prices went way up. I used to order the broccoli and brown sauce. I could eat 3 meals off one order. The 2 times I ordered recently, I ate the whole order in one sitting without stuffing myself. Staff isn't nearly as friendly, either.
Rude customer service, they got the order wrong and I paid extra for pork fried rice and only received brown rice with nothing in it. We were supposed to of received general tso but it was just orange chicken, A small and a large was $27 dollars, for the price we paid it should of been right and when I called they wouldn't answer then after the 4th time calling they picked up and hung up. They know what they are doing because they have caller ID. We will not be returning. Food wasn't that great.
Food was great until we went for the dumplings and found a bug cooked into the side of one of them..
