About China Garden on Gravois

China Garden on Gravois is a Chinese restaurant located at 6850 Gravois Ave in St. Louis, Missouri (MO 63116), USA. As a member of the Chinese Restaurant category, it serves the local community with a variety of Chinese dishes, offering both pickup and delivery services. Recent customer reviews present a mixed picture of experiences, particularly concerning food temperature and delivery service.

One customer shared a notably negative experience with a pickup order. This individual, who lives approximately 25 minutes away in Arnold/Imperial, was concerned about the food staying hot during the drive home. While the food did indeed remain hot, the temperature of the egg drop soup was alarmingly high. The reviewer reported adding ice cubes to the soup to cool it down and still being burned upon consumption, even after blowing on it. A thermometer reading indicated the soup was still over 150 degrees Fahrenheit a full half-hour after pickup and after the addition of ice. The customer questioned the initial serving temperature, noting that the lid of the soup container was even warped from the extreme heat. Due to this experience, the reviewer, who only had a pickup order and thus could not comment on the restaurant's atmosphere, stated unequivocally that they would not be eating there again. A brief follow-up comment from another user simply echoed, "The egg drop soup was WAY WAY WAY too hot!!!" This raises a significant concern regarding the serving temperature of at least one of their menu items.

In contrast, another recent review described a positive experience with a delivery order. This customer ordered several dishes, including House Lo Mein, Orange Chicken with Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Hot Butter Chicken. They specifically praised the person who took their order, describing them as "great, patient, polite, and helpful without being chatty." This positive interaction over the phone set a good initial impression. The customer's anticipation was met, as they reported being satisfied with their order. They found everything to be "fresh and packed with care," indicating attention to the quality and presentation of their delivery. The reviewer did note that some of the dishes had a bit more sweetness than their personal preference, but overall, the meal "fully satisfied" their Chinese food craving. This positive feedback suggests that China Garden on Gravois is capable of providing good quality food and pleasant service, at least in the context of delivery orders.

Considering these two recent reviews, there appears to be a dichotomy in customer experiences. One highlights a potentially dangerous issue with excessively hot food for pickup, while the other praises the telephone ordering process and the freshness and care in the preparation and packaging of a delivery order. The discrepancy might suggest inconsistencies in food preparation or different standards for dine-in/pickup versus delivery orders, although no information about dine-in experiences is provided in these reviews.

Neither review offers any insight into the restaurant's environment or ambiance, as one was a pickup order and the other was a delivery. Therefore, local users seeking information about the dine-in experience at China Garden on Gravois will need to look for additional reviews or potentially visit the location to assess it themselves.

Similarly, there is no mention of any current promotional offers or special features of China Garden on Gravois in the provided customer feedback. Local users interested in learning about potential discounts or unique menu items are advised to contact the restaurant directly at their phone number, (314) 351-8880 or mobile phone +1 314-351-8880. They could also inquire about their delivery radius and any associated fees.

In conclusion, China Garden on Gravois in St. Louis presents a mixed bag of recent customer experiences. While one customer encountered a concerning issue with excessively hot soup from a pickup order, another reported a positive delivery experience with fresh and well-prepared food and excellent phone service. Local users considering this Chinese restaurant should be aware of these contrasting reports. If opting for pickup, it might be wise to exercise caution regarding the temperature of certain items. For delivery, the experience seems to have been positive for at least one recent customer. Without more information about the dine-in environment or any current promotions, potential customers will need to weigh these recent experiences and perhaps seek additional feedback or contact the restaurant directly for further details.

It is important to remember that these are just two recent reviews and may not be fully representative of all customer experiences at China Garden on Gravois. However, they do provide valuable insights into potential strengths (delivery service, food freshness) and weaknesses (food temperature control for pickup) that local users should consider.

So had one of my worst experiences. Live in Arnold/ imperial, easily 25 minutes to get the food home. Hoping the food will still be hot when I arrive. Surely it was. Got the egg drop soup out of the bag, put some ice cubes in it to help cool, went to eat it after blowing on it. Had to spit it out as it burned me immediately . Got a thermometer, the temperature was still over 150 degrees!!!! That is after a half hour, and ice was added, so how hot was it served? Upon further inspection the lid was even warped from how hot it was served!!! I can't comment on atmosphere as I was a pickup order but I can assure you I won't be eating here again. The egg drop soup was WAY WAY WAY too hot!!!

I ordered delivery, House Lo Mein, Orange Chicken with Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Hot Butter Chicken. The person who took my order was great, patient, polite and helpful without being chatty, I got off the phone thinking if they care about making the food as much as they do about taking the order I won't be disappointed and I wasn't! Everything was fresh and packed with care. There is a bit more sweetness to some of their dishes than I prefer, but it fully satisfied my Chinese food craving.

So. We have ordered from them 3 times. N every time it's awful. When my husband orders. Everytime. He says man! She's a mean, rude person. This last time they forgot our fried rice. AFTER 5 PHONE CALLS CALLING THEM. THEY SAID I WILL CREDIT UR ACCOUNT! Never not ever will we go back! AWFUL SERVICE!

Don't be discouraged by appearances. This place slaps. Chicken fried rice includes diced green onions and HUGE chicken bites. Empress Chicken combination plate took me on a way street to FlavorTown™️ - Steamed Vegetables are so fresh, wow. ***Staff courteous and polite, opening the door upon exit. Very clean, well kept inside***

Ordered from here last night for the 1st time. My normal go-to chinese food (a taste of china) recently changed ownership, reduced hours, reduced serving sizes, changed recipes and increased prices so I decided to try this place. I'm so glad I did. The food is great and the prices are pre-pandemic! They still have two dozen dinner specials for $7 whereas every place else is $10+. Its a couple minute further drive and a sketchy parking lot but this is my new go-to for chinese food. At these prices I can afford to order twice/week again! YAY China Garden
