About China Garden

China Garden is a Chinese restaurant located at 1064 Main St in Branford, Connecticut. They can be contacted at phone number (203) 481-3666 or mobile phone +1 203-481-3666. As a Chinese restaurant, China Garden offers a variety of Chinese dishes, primarily for takeout based on customer experiences. They also appear to have parking space suitable for trucks.

Customer reviews for China Garden offer contrasting opinions on the food. One reviewer enthusiastically recommends their boneless spare ribs, claiming it to be the best they have had across America and noting the availability of parking for truck drivers.

However, another customer who ordered a variety of dishes including shrimp egg roll, crab rangoons, hot & sour soup, beef & broccoli, shrimp in garlic sauce, moo goo gai pan, shrimp lo mein, and General Tso’s chicken, reported a negative experience with the flavor profile of most items. They found many dishes to be excessively sweet and otherwise flavorless, with an overuse of cornstarch leading to a "goopy" texture in the sauces. Specifically, the crab rangoons were described as dessert-like in sweetness, and the hot & sour soup was neither hot nor sour, but cool and bland. Their teenage sons reportedly did not enjoy the beef & broccoli or the shrimp in garlic sauce.

The moo goo gai pan was noted as being bland as expected, suitable for hot sauce. The shrimp egg rolls were also described as bland. While the General Tso’s chicken was eaten by everyone, it was also characterized as both too sweet and bland. On a positive note, this reviewer found the place to be clean and the service pleasant.

Given these mixed reviews, local users may want to consider the differing opinions on the food quality, particularly regarding sweetness and flavor, when deciding to order from China Garden. The restaurant is noted for its boneless spare ribs by one reviewer and offers takeout service with parking suitable for large vehicles, while another experienced several dishes as overly sweet and bland, despite reporting clean premises and pleasant service.

We got: shrimp egg roll, crab rangoons, hot&sour soup, beef & broccoli, shrimp in garlic sauce, moo goo gai pan, shrimp lo mien, and general Tso’s chicken. It was all way WAY too sweet and otherwise flavorless. They used way too much cornstarch to thicken all the sauces; everything felt “goopy” The crab Rangoons were sweet enough to be desserts. The hot&sour soup was neither hot nor sour; it was cool&bland. My two teenage sons tried the beef & broccoli and said it wasn’t very good. Then they wouldn’t eat the shrimp&garlic sauce at all! We ate the moo goo gai pan, which was exactly as bland as it was supposed to be. That’s the dish hot sauce was made for. I ate the shrimp egg rolls, which were also bland but I wasn’t expecting much flavor to begin with. Everyone ate the General Tso’s chicken, but it too sweet and simultaneously bland. The place was clean and the service was pleasant

China garden which opened up just after covid is easily the most popular Chinese food takeout in the area. By no means it's the best but it's very good.

Just an average Chinese food place. Take out only. Nothing to crazy about it. Wouldn’t rave about it.

We ordered several dishes to share. All were great. Hunan Chicken was spicy, but not too much. The Mongolian Beef was very spicy and delicious. The Vegetable Lo Mein was mild and had many vegetables in it, as did the Hunan Chicken. The Mongolian Beef had just onions. We ordered from the website and the food was ready very quickly. Portions are large and meant for sharing or as leftovers. Can’t wait to try different dishes. Thank you.
