About China Express

China Express is a Chinese restaurant located at 2302 W 41st St, Sioux Falls, SD 57105, USA. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, China Express aims to provide Chinese cuisine to the Sioux Falls community. Customer reviews for China Express present a somewhat polarized view, with some aspects receiving praise while others are heavily criticized. One reviewer had a significantly negative experience, stating that while the food "looked better than it tasted," the overall quality was disappointing. They mentioned ordering two small portions that cost over $30, which they felt was expensive for the quantity received. The food portions were described as "very small" with a "tiny portion of rice," and the taste was deemed "mediocre at best." This reviewer also found their meal inedible due to the rice being "absolutely soaked in sauce," leading them to leave their leftovers despite the lacking taste. The dining experience was further detracted from by the use of disposable tableware, including paper plates, paper cups, and "very flimsy" plastic silverware that made it difficult to eat. The atmosphere was likened to eating in a "hospital cafeteria," and the taste of the food was said to reflect this unappealing comparison. This reviewer strongly recommended against visiting China Express, suggesting Panda Express as a better alternative.

In contrast, another reviewer had a more positive experience, highlighting specific dishes they enjoyed. They noted that while the portion of sesame chicken was "smaller than expected," it was "so good." The crab rangoon was described as "homemade" and "full of filling," and they were pleased that their "picky daughters ate everything." This suggests that some dishes at China Express might be of higher quality and more appealing than others. This reviewer also mentioned that water is charged per cup, which is an unusual practice that potential customers should be aware of. They expressed their intention to try the cashew and Kung Pao chicken on their next visit and positively commented on the cleanliness of the establishment, stating, "So clean in there."

Considering these contrasting reviews, it appears that the quality and portion sizes at China Express might be inconsistent or perceived differently by various customers. The negative review raises concerns about value for money, taste, food preparation (particularly the excessive sauce on the rice), the quality of the dining experience due to the disposable tableware and atmosphere, and the overall recommendation of the restaurant. On the other hand, the positive review praises the taste and quality of specific items like the sesame chicken and crab rangoon, as well as the cleanliness of the restaurant, while noting the smaller portion size of one dish and the charge for water.

Based on the feedback, the environment of China Express is described by one reviewer as being akin to a "hospital cafeteria," which suggests a sterile and uninviting atmosphere lacking in typical restaurant ambiance. However, another reviewer explicitly mentioned that the place is "so clean," indicating that while the decor or overall feel might not be appealing to everyone, hygiene standards are apparently maintained.

The services at China Express likely include takeout and possibly some limited dine-in options, given the mention of an atmosphere. The use of paper plates and plastic silverware suggests a more casual or fast-food style service. The friendliness and efficiency of the staff are not explicitly commented on in the provided reviews, except for the implication of counter service associated with takeout or a cafeteria-style setting.

Features of China Express include the reported good taste of their sesame chicken and the quality of their homemade-style crab rangoon with a generous filling. The cleanliness of the restaurant is also a notable positive feature. However, potential drawbacks include small portion sizes (especially for the price), inconsistent food preparation (such as the overly sauced rice), the use of disposable tableware, and a potentially unappealing atmosphere. The practice of charging for water is also a point to consider.

Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any specials, lunch deals, or other promotions at China Express would need to contact the restaurant directly or check for any online presence they might have.

For local users in Sioux Falls, SD, seeking a Chinese restaurant, China Express presents a mixed bag. If cleanliness is a high priority and you are interested in trying their sesame chicken or crab rangoon based on positive feedback, it might be worth considering. However, the negative review regarding small portions, high prices, mediocre taste, poorly prepared dishes like the overly sauced rice, and an uninviting atmosphere should also be taken into account. The use of disposable tableware might be a deterrent for those seeking a more traditional dining experience. The charge for water is also an unusual policy to be aware of.

Given the strong contrast in the two available reviews, it is difficult to form a definitive overall opinion. Potential customers might want to weigh the positive comments about specific dishes and cleanliness against the negative feedback regarding value, taste, preparation, and atmosphere. It might be prudent to try a small order of the positively reviewed items first to assess the quality for oneself before committing to a larger or more expensive meal.

To gain a more comprehensive understanding of China Express, local users might look for additional reviews on other platforms to see if there is a consensus on the quality, value, and overall experience. The significant disparity in the provided feedback suggests that individual experiences may vary.

In conclusion, China Express in Sioux Falls, SD, is a Chinese restaurant that has received both positive and negative feedback. While praised for the taste of its sesame chicken and crab rangoon, as well as its cleanliness, it has been criticized for small portions, high prices, mediocre taste in some dishes, poor preparation, an unappealing atmosphere, and the use of disposable tableware. Local users should consider these contrasting opinions when deciding whether to patronize China Express.

Food looked better than it tasted. We ordered two small portions and spent over 30 dollars. Food portions were very small with a tiny portion of rice, the taste was mediocre at best. Couldn’t finish my meal due to the rice being absolutely soaked in sauce though I was fine leaving my leftovers since the taste was lacking. Everything was served on paper plates and paper cups, the silverware was also plastic and very flimsy, could barely pick up broccoli. The atmosphere was as if we were eating in a hospital cafeteria and the taste of the food definitely reflects that. You’d be better off going to Panda Express than going here. Would not recommend.

Yes, the sesame chicken portion was smaller than expected but so good. Crab rangoon seemed homemade and full of filling. My picky daughters ate everything. If you get water, they will charge you per cup. Next time I will try the cashew and Kung pow chicken. So clean in there.

Small portions for what you pay. Served on styrofoam plates, plastic forks, and paper cups. I felt like I was eating from a lunch truck.
