About China Dish

Welcome to China Dish, a Chinese restaurant located at 4935 Southwest Ave in St. Louis, Missouri (zip code 63110). As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, China Dish offers a variety of Chinese dishes for the community. They can be contacted at (314) 776-2511 or via mobile at +1 314-776-2511 for orders and inquiries.

Based on the limited recent customer reviews available, experiences at China Dish appear to be mixed, with concerns raised about pricing accuracy, service interactions, and the quality of certain dishes, alongside some positive feedback on specific items. One reviewer reported a significant discrepancy between the online pricing list and the actual prices inside the restaurant. This led them to feel like the restaurant was engaging in "price gouging." The reviewer noted that only a man and a woman were present inside. The female staff member who initially came to the counter reportedly became "aggravated" by the customer's questions regarding the menu and the price differences between what was seen online and what was presented in person. Eventually, the man took their order, and the food took approximately 15 minutes to be completed. This suggests that the service might be handled by a small team, and interactions could be strained if there are pricing discrepancies.

Regarding the food, the same reviewer found the rice and the St. Paul sandwich they ordered to be "good." The St. Paul sandwich is a local St. Louis Chinese-American creation, typically featuring an egg foo young patty with dill pickles, white onion, and mayonnaise between two slices of white bread. The positive mention of this regional specialty suggests that China Dish might be a place to try this particular dish. However, the reviewer did not recommend the crab rangoon, indicating a potential issue with this popular appetizer.

Another reviewer described China Dish as offering "Average MO Chinese take out." They decided to try the restaurant specifically because it offered "Springfield Style Cashew Chicken," a dish originating from Springfield, Missouri, characterized by its cashew-based sauce and often served with fried chicken. While the reviewer found China Dish's version to be "decent," they also noted that it contained "way too much soy in the sauce and in the fried rice," resulting in an "overpowering soy/salt flavor." This feedback suggests that while China Dish might offer regional Chinese-American specialties, the execution might not appeal to all palates, particularly those sensitive to strong soy sauce flavors.

Regarding the environment of China Dish, the provided reviews offer very limited information. One reviewer mentioned that only a man and a woman were present inside the restaurant, suggesting a small, possibly family-run establishment. However, there are no comments on the decor, cleanliness, or overall ambiance. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the food and service interactions, rather than the physical setting.

In terms of services, China Dish appears to primarily cater to takeout, as one reviewer explicitly mentioned it as "take out," and the other described ordering and receiving their food. The 15-minute wait time for food completion suggests a relatively quick turnaround for orders. The availability of a phone number indicates that customers can place orders for pickup. However, there is no mention of dine-in or delivery services in the provided reviews. The negative interaction with the female staff member regarding pricing discrepancies suggests a potential issue with customer service in certain situations.

As for features, the offering of the St. Paul sandwich, a local St. Louis specialty, could be considered a unique feature for those looking to try this regional dish. Similarly, their inclusion of Springfield Style Cashew Chicken on the menu might appeal to those familiar with or seeking this specific dish. However, the feedback suggests that the preparation of the cashew chicken might be heavy on soy sauce. The negative review of the crab rangoon indicates that not all of their offerings are well-received. The discrepancy between online and in-store pricing is a significant concern raised by one reviewer and should be noted by potential customers.

There is no promotional information included in the provided reviews. To find out about any current specials, menu updates, or to confirm pricing, it would be best to contact China Dish directly at (314) 776-2511 or +1 314-776-2511. Local residents might also check online platforms for any recent updates or promotions, keeping in mind the reported issues with the accuracy of online pricing.

In conclusion, China Dish on Southwest Ave in St. Louis presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While some dishes like the rice and St. Paul sandwich are considered good, and they offer regional specialties like Springfield Style Cashew Chicken, there are concerns about excessive soy sauce in some dishes and a reported issue with the quality of the crab rangoon. A significant point of caution is the reported discrepancy between online and in-store pricing, which led one customer to feel like they were being price-gouged and resulted in a negative service interaction. Potential customers might want to inquire about current pricing when placing their orders. If you are interested in trying a St. Paul sandwich or Springfield Style Cashew Chicken and are mindful of potential pricing issues, China Dish might be an option to consider, but it would be wise to manage expectations based on the available feedback.

The pricing list online is WAY OFF of the actual pricing once you get inside the restaurant; I felt like they knew what they were doing here, price gouging. It was only a man & woman inside of the restaurant. The female came to the counter first but got aggravated by my constant questioning of the menu & pricing vs what we saw posted online. The man took our order & our food took roughly 15 min. for completion. The rice & St. Paul we ordered were good but I don't recommend the crab rangoon.

Average MO Chinese take out. Gave them a try since they do Springfield Style Cashew Chicken. It is decent but way too much soy in the sauce and in the fried rice. Overpowering soy/salt flavor.

This place is what you would expect—bargain Chinese food. Not terrible, but not particularly good either. I got the hunan beef, which was alright. I wouldn’t recommend the fried wonton appetizer, which had almost no filling and was flavorless. Note that its $10 minimum for credit cards, and they add a small fee on top of that.

crispy cashew chicken is my go-to. I love the "savory" not sweet goons. So yum.

Have been ordering from here a few years now. We always get the same thing so I can't speak to most of the menu, but the general tsos, orange chicken, and chicken fried rice are excellent.
