About China City
Welcome to China City, a Chinese restaurant located at 276 Newport Rd in New London, New Hampshire. As a Chinese restaurant in the New London area, China City currently operates as a takeout-only establishment, providing Chinese cuisine for customers to enjoy off-premises. Based on recent customer feedback available online, it is important for local users to be aware of some significant concerns regarding the restaurant's food quality, order accuracy, customer service, and pricing.
Due to its current takeout-only status, there is no information available regarding the dine-in environment of China City. Customers can expect to interact with the restaurant primarily through phone orders and in-person pickup at their location on Newport Road.
The services offered by China City are currently limited to takeout. Customers can place orders via phone at (603) 526-2868 or +1 603-526-2868 and then pick up their food at the restaurant's address. Delivery service is not mentioned in the provided reviews, so it is presumed that takeout is the sole service currently available.
Based on the recent customer reviews, several significant issues have been raised regarding the features and overall experience at China City. One particularly concerning review details a customer who, after ordering Sesame Tofu (being a vegetarian of 30 years), received and unknowingly consumed chicken. This indicates a severe error in order preparation and a lack of attention to dietary restrictions. The customer's experience was further exacerbated by the restaurant's handling of the mistake. Upon contacting China City, the customer reported that the staff argued about the error and offered no apology. Instead of a refund, they were initially offered a credit, which the customer declined due to their dissatisfaction. Even when the refund was picked up by the customer's husband the following day, there was no effort made to regain their trust or encourage them to return.
Adding to this negative experience, the same reviewer described their husband's food as "less than average." The Won Ton soup was noted as being mostly broth, and the House rice was described as bland with a disproportionate amount of shrimp compared to other meats. Furthermore, the reviewer found the meal to be exceptionally expensive, with their total order costing $80, which they felt was not justified by the quality of the food received. An additional concerning detail mentioned was the presence of a very young child, presumably belonging to the restaurant staff, playing on the ground by the entrance, potentially posing a safety hazard or inconvenience to customers.
Another customer shared an equally disappointing experience, stating that in 45 years, they had never been so dissatisfied with Chinese food quality. Their Kung Pao chicken was criticized for being mostly celery used as a cheap filler, with rubbery chicken and a sweet sauce lacking the typical soy sauce flavor associated with the dish. This customer ultimately threw away the uneaten portion of their meal. The pork fried rice was also described as lacking in body and flavor. This review concludes with the hope that the poor quality was an isolated incident.
The consistent themes in these reviews point to significant issues with food quality, order accuracy, and customer service at China City. The substitution of meat for a vegetarian order is a serious error that could have significant consequences for individuals with dietary restrictions. The lack of apology and the initial reluctance to provide a refund further highlight a concerning approach to customer service. Additionally, the complaints about the quality and flavor of multiple dishes, as well as the perceived high cost, suggest a potential disconnect between the price and the value offered.
Given these recent and detailed negative experiences, local users considering ordering from China City should be aware of these potential risks. The feedback indicates a possibility of receiving incorrect orders, subpar food quality, and unsatisfactory customer service. The higher pricing reported by one customer also suggests that the cost may not align with the quality of the food and service received.
Currently operating for takeout only, China City's focus should be on ensuring the accuracy and quality of each order to maintain customer satisfaction. The reported incidents suggest a need for significant improvement in both food preparation and customer relations.
As there is no mention of any promotional information in the provided reviews, it is impossible to comment on any special offers or discounts that China City might be providing. Local users would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any such promotions, although the recent negative feedback might understandably make potential customers hesitant to do so.
In conclusion, the recent customer reviews for China City in New London, NH, paint a concerning picture. Issues with order accuracy, food quality (including a serious error with a vegetarian order), poor customer service, and high prices have been reported. While the restaurant is currently operating for takeout only, these fundamental issues need to be addressed to ensure customer satisfaction. Local users should carefully consider these recent experiences before placing an order with China City.

Ordered Sesame TOFU-got chicken and didn’t know until I actually ate it. Did I mention that I’ve been a vegetarian for 30 years? Needless to say, not happy about eating meat. When I called to tell them, the woman argued with me that I must’ve said “chicken” because that’s what she heard. I shouldn’t have to argue!?! And NO APOLOGY!?! Said I wanted a refund-they wanted to give me a credit. Told them I wouldn’t return. When my husband picked up the refund next day, they begged him to come back. But didn’t do a thing to make us want to go back!?! My husband’s food was less than average. Won Ton soup was mostly broth. House rice was bland and not much meat-mostly shrimp. Expensive as heck, too. Couldn’t believe how our food was $80!?! Also- my husband’s had to walk around a very young child sitting on the ground playing by the entrance. (Their child)
In 45 years, I have never been so disappointed in Chinese food quality. The Kung Pao chicken was mostly celery as a cheap filler (see photo). The chicken was rubbery and the sauce was sweet, not a hint of soy, which is typically what a Kung Pao recipe is based on. I threw away what I didn’t eat. The pork fried rice was also lacking in body and flavor. Let’s just hope someone was having a bad day. Only open for takeout
Passing through New London and took a chance. It was very good! Definitely would stop by again. It’s a real restaurant not tacky. Service prompt and good sized servings. Pics: sesame chicken and doorway.
This is the only Chinese restaurant in this town and it's very good. My friends liked it so much that they said they would order more next time.👍🏻
You have not had Chinese food until you have tried this location. The staff is amazing, the food is always fresh and never a complaint. The Crab Ragoons are amazing and our family tried a lot of locations and no one as compared to the quality and taste of the food you get from them.
