About China Chef

Welcome to China Chef, a Chinese restaurant situated at 2025 White Mountain Highway in North Conway, New Hampshire. As a Chinese restaurant in the North Conway area, China Chef offers a place for local users and visitors to enjoy Chinese cuisine. Based on recent customer reviews, the dining experience at China Chef appears to be somewhat inconsistent, with notable positive aspects alongside significant areas of concern.

The atmosphere of China Chef has been described by one reviewer as "very clean, welcoming, and a bit retro." This suggests that the restaurant takes pride in maintaining a clean dining environment and offers a unique aesthetic with its retro decor, which some customers may find appealing and inviting. The front of house service also received positive mention, with one customer describing the gentleman there as "perfect."

China Chef primarily offers a dine-in experience, allowing customers to enjoy their meals in the restaurant's described clean and welcoming atmosphere. While not explicitly stated, it is common for Chinese restaurants to also provide takeout services, and local users may want to contact China Chef directly to confirm if this option is available. One reviewer praised the service as "warm, courteous, and professional," indicating a commitment to providing a pleasant dining experience through attentive staff.

Customer feedback on the food at China Chef is notably divided. One reviewer expressed extreme dissatisfaction with their meal. They ordered the PuPu platter for two and General Gao's chicken as a dinner portion. However, they reported receiving only four small pieces of chicken in the General Gao's dish, which they felt was a "lunch meal portion" despite paying a dinner price, leading to a perception of being significantly overcharged. Furthermore, this customer found the food to be "extremely bland," which was a major disappointment given their love for Chinese food. This negative experience was so impactful that the reviewer expressed uncertainty about returning to try the restaurant again, emphasizing that the food should attract customers rather than deter them.

In stark contrast, another customer had a highly positive experience. They started with a cup of wonton soup, which they found "very tasty, warm, and yummy." Their luncheon plate was described as "delicious" with "flavors perfect," and they also praised the house lo-mein as "amazing." This customer reported leaving the restaurant feeling full with enough leftovers for another meal and found the prices to be "very reasonable." They highly recommended eating at China Chef, highlighting the owners' focus on providing a great dining experience and striving for satisfied customers.

The features of China Chef, as gleaned from these reviews, present a mixed bag. Positives include a clean and welcoming atmosphere with a retro vibe, warm and professional service, and the potential for very tasty dishes with perfect flavors, as noted by one satisfied customer. The wonton soup and house lo-mein were specifically highlighted as delicious. Additionally, reasonable prices and generous portions (leading to leftovers) were part of a positive experience.

However, significant drawbacks include the possibility of bland food, as reported by another customer, as well as potentially small portions for the price paid, leading to a feeling of being overcharged. The discrepancy between lunch and dinner portion sizes seems to be a point of concern that future customers should be aware of when ordering.

There is no information provided in the reviews regarding any specific promotional offers or discounts at China Chef. Local users interested in learning about any specials or promotions should contact the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, China Chef in North Conway, NH, appears to be a Chinese restaurant that offers a clean and welcoming environment with warm service. However, customer experiences with the food quality, portion sizes, and pricing have been inconsistent. While some patrons have enjoyed delicious and flavorful meals at reasonable prices, others have found the food bland and the portions small for the cost. Potential local users should consider these contrasting reviews when deciding whether to dine at China Chef. It might be prudent to inquire about portion sizes and flavor profiles when ordering, and perhaps try dishes that have received specific positive mentions, such as the wonton soup and house lo-mein. The retro atmosphere and friendly service could also contribute to a pleasant dining experience for some.

First time in The front of house gentlemen was perfect, I ordered pupu for 2 and dinner general's chix the gen chix only 4 small pieces of chicken. I paid $43 for lunch meal portions when I paid for dinner this was way way way over priced for the little food they put in this was the biggest rip-off. Plus the food is extremely bland. I love Chinese food but this place sorry to say failed me horribly wrong. I'll dont know if I'll honestly go back to even try again. The food supposed to keep people not push them away.

The atmosphere is very clean, welcoming and a bit retro The service was warm, courteous and professional. I started with a cup of wonton soup that was very tasty, warm, and yummy 😋 ! The luncheon plate I ordered was delicious, flavors perfect, also the house lo-mein was amazing. I left there full with enough key overs for myself and my husband for a light lunch. The prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend eating here. The owners really focus on providing a great dining experience and strive for satisfied customers!

Great service! A few things we had; Boneless spareribs, fire! Steak teriyaki has high quality beef and balanced flavor! I didn’t get to try the dumplings the kid ate them all he said they are delicious.

This had to be some of the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. Portion was horrible. I literally got 4 to 5 pieces of chicken in my General tos chicken. The pepper steak had all veggies and like 4 small pieces of meat. The Singapore Noodles were undercooked the lo mein noodles were overcooked. And the egg rolls were so over cooked the stuffing inside was dry and like powder almost. The chicken was dry and overcooked. I paid $150 for my family to eat and it was a big disappointment. Coming from out of town and a long day off of the mountain from skiing I expected a little bit better. It’s sad because the owner was very nice and informative about the town.

First of all, the kid at the front desk knows nothing about the dishes and had to ask the owner every time. Second, see the photos, those were $12.95 each. What a joke. They forgot putting rice into the bag as well. The chow mein came with flakes of beef. Avoid this one at most.
