About China Buffet
Welcome to China Buffet, an all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant located at 931 Loucks Rd in York, Pennsylvania (zip code 17404). As a Chinese buffet, China Buffet aims to offer a wide variety of dishes, allowing customers to sample and enjoy a range of Chinese and potentially other Asian-inspired cuisine. You can contact them by phone at (717) 793-2658 or via their mobile number at +1 717-793-2658 for any inquiries.
Based on recent online reviews, customer experiences at China Buffet appear to be largely negative, with significant concerns raised about the food quality and service. One particularly detailed review paints a disappointing picture of the dining experience. The customer, who rarely leaves reviews unless extremely impressed or disappointed, expressed strong disappointment with their visit. They reported that much of the food available on the buffet was dry, suggesting it had been sitting under heat lamps for an extended period. They also noted a limited selection of sushi rolls, only about three or four options, which they found to be of poor quality. Furthermore, the customer stated that other dishes they tried were either cold or "plain gross," leading them to be hesitant to try anything further from the buffet.
Adding to their negative assessment, this reviewer criticized the wasabi, describing it as merely a green paste lacking any actual wasabi flavor. They also initially noted the absence of chopsticks, which they found particularly unusual for a restaurant offering sushi (later clarified in an edit that chopsticks are available at the front desk, not on the tables). The customer's overall dissatisfaction was so profound that they admitted wanting to leave without paying, as they had barely eaten anything. While they ultimately decided to pay, they made it clear that they would not be returning. They also speculated that the issues they observed were likely the reason for the restaurant potentially struggling, advising others to avoid China Buffet and suggesting the neighboring Fujihaha as a better alternative.
Another review echoed some of these concerns, although it offered a slightly less severe overall assessment, labeling China Buffet as an "OK buffet with bare essentials." This customer pointed out service issues, noting the absence of napkins on the table and a waitress who forgot to bring their drink until after they had finished their first plate. Additionally, they observed that the waitress was slow to clear empty plates from tables. Regarding the food, this reviewer found the sushi to be merely "ok," which aligns with the other review's negative comments about the sushi offerings. This suggests that the quality and service at China Buffet might not meet the expectations of many diners.
Considering these reviews, it appears that China Buffet is facing significant challenges in terms of food quality, freshness, and service efficiency. The strong negative feedback regarding dry, cold, and unappetizing food, coupled with criticisms of the limited and poor-quality sushi, suggests potential issues with food preparation and management of the buffet line. The service concerns, including forgotten drinks and slow plate clearing, further detract from the overall dining experience.
As an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, China Buffet's typical offering would be a wide array of prepared dishes, allowing customers to serve themselves from various stations. These would generally include classic Chinese-American dishes such as fried rice, noodle dishes, chicken, beef, and seafood entrees with different sauces, and a selection of appetizers like egg rolls and spring rolls. Many Chinese buffets also include a sushi bar and sometimes other non-Chinese items to cater to a broader range of tastes. However, the reviews suggest that the quality and variety of these offerings at China Buffet may be lacking.
The primary service model of China Buffet is self-serve from the buffet line. The reviews touch upon the table service aspects, highlighting issues with drink orders and plate clearing. The availability of chopsticks only at the front desk, rather than readily accessible at the tables, also indicates a potential inconvenience for customers wanting to eat sushi. The fact that payment is made after the meal is a common practice for buffets, allowing the restaurant to charge based on the perceived value by the customer, though in this case, one customer felt the value received was very low.
Based on the limited positive aspects in the reviews, it is difficult to identify specific features that would make China Buffet stand out positively. The "all you can eat" format is mentioned as a reason for choosing it over a neighboring restaurant, but the poor quality seemed to negate this potential advantage for at least one customer. The availability of sushi is another feature, but its quality was criticized. The fact that chopsticks are available (albeit at the front desk) is a minor point, but not a significant feature. The "bare essentials" description in one review suggests a lack of any notable ambiance or additional offerings that would enhance the dining experience.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Customers interested in any special offers or discounts at China Buffet would need to contact the restaurant directly. Given the negative feedback regarding the core aspects of food and service, it is unlikely that any promotions would significantly alter the overall experience for most diners.
In conclusion, recent customer reviews of China Buffet in York, PA, paint a concerning picture of the restaurant. Significant issues have been raised regarding the dryness, temperature, and overall quality of the food on the buffet, as well as a limited and poor-quality sushi selection. Service issues, such as forgotten drinks and slow plate clearing, further contribute to a negative dining experience. While the "all you can eat" format might be appealing in theory, the reported quality issues seem to outweigh this potential benefit. Potential customers are strongly advised to consider these recent experiences before choosing to dine at China Buffet. For any information on potential improvements or promotions, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

Customer Reviews
It’s uh… well I’m sitting here now with a plate of just about one of everything with a bite taken out, I’m hesitant to try anything else. I hardly ever leave reviews unless I’m extremely impressed, or disappointed. I’m disappointed. Everything is dry from sitting under the lamps all day, there’s about 3 or 4 different sushi roll options available, none of which are good. Everything else I’ve tried is either cold or just plain gross. The wasabi is just green paste, it has zero wasabi flavor, and there’s not even chop sticks. Sushi with a fork, that’s new. You actually pay after your meal and I honestly just want to walk out, I mean I didn’t really eat anything anyways. I’m decent so I will be paying, but I will not be coming back. I only came here vs fujihaha next door because this is all you can eat, turns out all I can eat is not much. It’s clear they are struggling, and I feel bad for writing such a harsh review, but it’s an honest review, and it’s clear WHY they are struggling. Just don’t come here. (Edit, they DO have chop sticks, they are just kept at the front desk which we didn’t see because we went in and we’re just told to pick a seat)
Would be nice if they had napkins on the table. The waitress forgot to bring my drink. After I finished my first plate then my drink arrived. Waitress took long to clear empty plates from people's tables. Overall it's an OK buffet with bare essentials. The sushi 🍣 was ok.
If you go to this buffet during busy times it's pretty good. It doesn't have as big of a selection as some of the bigger Chinese Buffets, but when the food is fresh it's not bad. They have sushi, but these rolls are mostly rice. It's a decent spot to hit for lunch.
Let me say I really dislike leaving bad reviews. This looks like a mom and pop place which makes leaving a bad review hard. With that said, this place is just not good. At least half of the sushi looked old. It looks like they tried to extend the shelf life by putting eel sauce on top to cover it up. Some of the food was over cooked and dry as if it had been sitting there for hours. The food I did eat was mediocre at best. As I was going to see what they had for dessert one of the waitresses/attendants was cleaning the dessert bar. As she was doing this she was picking something off of the desserts and flicking it away without gloves on. That was enough for me. I went straight to the cash register. I will never go back to this place and I recommend you stay away. Again, I hate to say this because I think it is a mom and pop establishment.
My son & I went here for lunch & he loved it. Lots of options & kid friendly. The girls who work here are very sweet. Good experience.
