About China Buffet
Welcome to China Buffet, a Chinese restaurant located at 2407 Lancaster Dr NE in Salem, Oregon, operating under the platform category of Chinese Buffet. China Buffet aims to offer a wide selection of Chinese-American dishes in a buffet-style setting. However, recent customer feedback indicates significant concerns regarding changes in food quality, unexpected charges, and pricing, which potential local users should carefully consider.
One recent reviewer, who stated that China Buffet was previously their "favorite buffet," reported a drastic decline in quality. This customer noticed a "new crew of people" and believes there is a "new kitchen staff" responsible for a complete change in the taste of the food. The reviewer described the new food as "absolutely God awful!" and "inedible," even before finishing their plate. Furthermore, they mentioned experiencing stomach discomfort shortly after starting their meal, raising serious concerns about the current food preparation and quality standards at China Buffet. This significant negative shift in food quality from a previously satisfied customer should be a major point of consideration for potential diners.
Adding to the negative feedback, another recent customer highlighted issues with unexpected fees and potential overcharging. This reviewer warned others to "BE AWARE of there unexpected ‘fees’" and specifically mentioned being charged for a table. They claimed that the waitress did not ask their preference between a booth or a table, yet an additional charge was applied. This lack of transparency and the imposition of unexpected fees can lead to a negative dining experience and erode customer trust.
Furthermore, the same reviewer reported being overcharged, necessitating them to personally calculate the correct bill. The total amount charged was deemed "ridiculous pricing," with the customer citing a cost of $86 for two adults, one three-year-old child, and two children under the age of eleven. This pricing structure, especially when coupled with the alleged overcharging and unexpected table fee, led the reviewer to strongly advise against dining at China Buffet, stating, "Do not recommend it AT ALL!!!!!!!!"
Considering these two recent reviews, the current state of China Buffet appears to be facing significant challenges. The drastic decline in food quality reported by a former favorite customer is a serious concern for anyone considering eating there. The description of the food as "awful" and "inedible," along with the associated stomach issues, suggests a potential problem with the kitchen operations or ingredient quality. This feedback directly impacts the core offering of a buffet-style restaurant – the food itself.
The issues raised regarding unexpected fees and potential overcharging further compound the negative impression. Charging customers for a table without their explicit consent and then overcharging them on the bill indicates a lack of transparency and potentially questionable billing practices. The perception of "ridiculous pricing," especially for a family with young children, adds to the dissatisfaction and suggests that the value proposition at China Buffet may no longer align with customer expectations.
The environment and services at China Buffet are not explicitly detailed in these negative reviews, as the focus is primarily on the deteriorated food quality and the problematic billing practices. However, the negative experiences with food and pricing are likely to overshadow any positive aspects of the restaurant's ambiance or the general service provided. The reported issues suggest a potential decline in overall management and operational standards.
Features typically associated with a Chinese buffet, such as a wide variety of dishes, self-service options, and potentially different food stations (e.g., soups, salads, main courses, desserts), are not discussed in the context of recent positive experiences. Instead, the focus is on the negative changes in the taste and quality of the food offered. This suggests that the primary feature – the buffet itself – is currently failing to meet customer expectations.
There is no promotional information available in these recent negative reviews. Given the serious concerns raised about food quality and pricing, any past or present promotions might not be sufficient to entice local users to visit China Buffet based on this recent feedback. Potential customers are likely to be more concerned with the fundamental aspects of a dining experience, such as the edibility and fair pricing of the food.
In conclusion, recent customer reviews for China Buffet in Salem, OR, paint a concerning picture. The reported significant decline in food quality due to apparent new staff and kitchen changes, coupled with allegations of unexpected fees and overcharging, should give potential local users pause. The strong negative recommendations from these reviewers suggest that the restaurant is currently not meeting basic customer expectations for food and fair business practices. Anyone considering dining at China Buffet should be aware of these recent experiences and might want to seek more up-to-date information or consider alternative Chinese dining options in the Salem area.

This was my favorite buffet but recently it seems to have have changed staff, I noticed a new crew of people today and must have a new kitchen staff cause the food taste completely different and it absolutely God awful! My stomach is already making bad noises and I have not even finished my plate! It looks different and tastes inedible
Please BE AWARE of there unexpected “fees” I was charged for a table when clearly the waitress didn’t ask me if I wanted a Booth or table. She also over charged me so I had to to do the math myself!!! $86 for two adults, 1 3 year kid and 2 kids under the age of 11! Ridiculous pricing. Do not recommend it AT ALL!!!!!!!!
My hubby and I go to China Buffet quite often. The service is great with very yummy food! We really enjoy the buffet and the variety of food it offers. The servers are very prompt to keep our tables clean and our soda's filled. We really enjoy this place.
Food was great and especially the price but I just don’t like how u have to pay for the food you don’t eat .
No one speaks English here. I told them something was "empty", thought I was ignored, but then they brought me a pot of "tea"--- which is not free by the way. I told 3 different staff that we didn't order tea but no one understood. Service is lazy, had to ask for refills and tell them when things ran out. Some of the food appears to be from yesterday- see photos. Will update tomorrow to let you know how sick it made me.
