About China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ
Welcome to China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ, a unique Chinese restaurant located at 1232 W Francisquito Ave in West Covina, California. This establishment presents an intriguing fusion of two distinct culinary traditions, offering a menu that combines the flavors and dishes of Chinese cuisine with the popular Hawaiian BBQ style. As a participant in the "Chinese Restaurant" category, China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ aims to provide a diverse dining experience that caters to a broad range of palates, potentially appealing to those who enjoy both familiar Chinese dishes and the sweet and savory tastes of Hawaiian barbecue.
Based on the limited customer feedback available, the experience at China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ appears to be somewhat varied. One customer reported a discrepancy between the advertised price of a "mini bowl" ($9.19) and the actual price paid ($13.85), citing concerns about the accuracy of pricing and additional charges for card usage. This reviewer also mentioned an unpleasant interaction with an employee, which led to a negative overall impression and a likelihood of not returning. This feedback highlights the importance of price transparency and customer service in ensuring a positive dining experience.
Conversely, another customer shared a "great experience" at the restaurant, noting that they found the place while driving by and were specifically looking for protein. This reviewer ordered a chicken combo (#6), which was priced at $14 including tax. A significant positive aspect of their experience was that the food was cooked fresh to order, a detail they particularly appreciated. In terms of flavor, they found the chicken to be very similar to that of the Ono Hawaiian BBQ franchise, suggesting a certain level of quality and taste that aligns with popular Hawaiian BBQ expectations.
An additional point of praise from the second reviewer was the generous portion sizes. They mentioned that the plates were substantial enough to easily feed two people with a normal appetite. This customer even reported only eating half of their plate, omitting the rice and macaroni salad, indicating a considerable amount of food provided with a single order. Generous portions can be a significant draw for customers looking for good value and a filling meal.
Given the name, the menu at China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ likely features a combination of dishes from both Chinese and Hawaiian culinary traditions. The "China Bowl Express" part suggests the presence of quick-service Chinese staples, such as rice bowls, noodle dishes, and perhaps some stir-fried entrees. These might include popular items like chow mein, fried rice, and various meat and vegetable combinations. The "Young Hawaiian BBQ" component indicates the availability of Hawaiian-style barbecue, which typically includes grilled or roasted meats marinated in sweet and savory sauces, often served with rice and macaroni salad.
The chicken combo mentioned by the positive reviewer likely falls under the Hawaiian BBQ category, suggesting that grilled or marinated chicken is a key offering in this style. The comparison to Ono Hawaiian BBQ implies that customers can expect similar flavors and preparations, which often involve a teriyaki-like marinade. Other potential Hawaiian BBQ items could include kalbi short ribs, BBQ pork, and various combo plates featuring a selection of meats and sides.
The environment of China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ is not explicitly described in the provided reviews. However, the "Express" part of the name might suggest a more casual and quick-service setting, possibly geared towards take-out and fast-casual dining. The ambiance could be functional and efficient, focusing on the prompt preparation and delivery of food. It is also possible that there is a small dine-in area for customers who prefer to eat on-site.
In terms of services, the primary offering is likely the preparation and sale of both Chinese and Hawaiian BBQ dishes. This would include order taking, food preparation, and packaging for both dine-in and take-out customers. The negative review mentioned a charge for using a card, which is a service-related detail that potential customers might want to be aware of. The positive review highlighted the appreciated service of having the chicken cooked fresh to order, indicating a willingness to prepare food with a focus on quality.
Features of China Bowl Express & Young Hawaiian BBQ could include its unique fusion of two popular cuisines, providing a diverse menu that might appeal to a wide customer base. The generous portion sizes, as noted by one reviewer, could also be a significant feature, offering good value for money. The fact that some dishes are cooked fresh to order suggests a commitment to quality that could be another key feature.

Customer Reviews
Food is good but the prices advertised aren’t accurate. I ordered the mini bowl which is advertised as $9.19 and I ended up paying $13.85. When you factor in tax and the 50 cent charge for using card it doesn’t add up. I was also yelled at by the employee who took my order to sit down while I waited for my food. Probably won’t be back.
Great experience. Just driving by and found this place looking for protein! Ordered a chicken combo #6 ($14 tax incl) which was cooked there for me, something that I appreciate. Flavor wise very similar to Ono Hawaiian BBQ Franchises. I have to say that with these plates two people with a normal appetite eat easily. I just ate half of it whiteout eating the rice and the macaroni salad.
We go there all the time. We use cash and sometimes card. We never have a problem. Today I used a Vanilla gift card with a balance of $17.91... We got a receipt for $14.83 but they took out $17.80. Now I know it's only $3.00 but when u in the street and have no money $3.00 is a lot of things.. Needless to say they couldn't help me so I won't be going bk and I'll be telling everyone I know that they rip people off that use a credit card.
My girlfriend and I ordered some food and went to pick it up. The location looked clean so we decided to eat our food there. I ordered beef & broccoli with Orange chicken, chow mein and rice. The chow mein was pretty good but the beef was a little too rubbery for my taste and the rice had a weird burnt plastic flavor. The orange chicken was a little too mushy as if it was sitting a little too long. We went based on the reviews this place had and maybe I was expecting a little much. The portion sizes are decent. I probably wouldn’t return again unless I was starving.
Food is good. Price is good. The inside looks like a typical Chinese restaurant. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful they will explain everything to you if you have questions. This place is in a strip mall with other places around it like Gonzalez market and DD's discount. I love coming for the orange chicken and barbecue pork. They also have a good Hawaiian BBQ menu. There is a lot of places to park and a lot of other places to go. I would recommend this to everyone who's hungry for some Chinese food
