Customer reviews of Chili House SF present a range of experiences, suggesting that the restaurant can be quite popular and that certain dishes stand out significantly. One reviewer noted that it is a "very busy place" and highlighted the benefit of booking ahead, implying that reservations might be advisable, especially during peak hours. This suggests a potentially lively and sought-after dining environment.

However, this same reviewer also shared mixed feedback on the food itself. They reported that the "food was not that tasty" in some instances, specifically mentioning "cold chicken" with an excessive amount of bones. On the other hand, they noted that the tofu dish, while taking a while to arrive, was "very good" and enjoyable. Additionally, they commented that the beef dumplings tasted "pretty much pork," which might be relevant for customers with specific preferences or dietary restrictions. Overall, this reviewer concluded their experience as "not bad."

In contrast, another reviewer had a more overwhelmingly positive experience. Although they "wasn’t able to try the peking duck," they were highly impressed by other dishes. They described the "pickled sichuan fish soup" as "exceptional," noting its delicious and soothing qualities while also having a bit of spice. This reviewer also mentioned that the other dishes they tried were "very well made." They strongly recommended Chili House SF for those seeking "authentic Chinese food," suggesting a high level of satisfaction with the overall culinary offerings.

Based on these reviews, we can attempt to characterize the environment, services, and features of Chili House SF, while acknowledging the varied experiences reported by customers.

In terms of services, the fact that booking ahead is mentioned suggests that Chili House SF accepts reservations, which can be beneficial for customers wanting to secure a table. The availability of a diverse menu is implied by the variety of dishes mentioned in the reviews, including chicken, tofu, beef dumplings, pickled sichuan fish soup, and (though not tried) peking duck. The service experience seems to vary, as one reviewer noted a delay with the tofu dish, while the other did not comment negatively on the service. The overall impression is of a restaurant capable of serving a high volume of customers, given its reported busyness.

It is very busy place, and we were lucky that we booked ahead. Food was not that tasty. We had cold chicken and the amount of bones was too much. Tofu was taking their time, we waited for a while, tofu was very good. We enjoyed it. Beef dumplings taste pretty much pork. Overall not bad experience.

Wasn’t able to try the peking duck, but wow! Food here was amazing! The pickled sichuan fish soup was exceptional! So good and soothing, while a bit spicy! The other dishes were also very well made! You always need to have some authentic Chinese food once in a while. Super recommended!

So sad we didn’t get to try the Peking duck! The tea smoked duck was still amazing though. The other dishes were also delicious but I wouldn’t get the soup dumplings here. We had enough for another meal at home

This place did not disappoint! Fresh, tasty and delicious! We ordered the Pecking Duck (they also gave us the decision to get the back of the duck fried or placed in a soup, we decided fried), steamed pork dumplings, and the seasonal vegetable! Wow! All of it was sooo good! This was an memorable experience!

Loved dining at this restaurant! The dan dan noodles were insanely good. We also ordered the crab (cooked in a spicy/chili sauce as opposed to the ginger scallion version), some pan-fried buns, mixed veggies, Chinese preserved meat + cauliflower, and beef and tripe in chili oil 夫妻肺片, as well as the Peking Duck which is served table side and comes with a soup made with the bones of the duck.
