Located at 333 Grand Ave in South San Francisco, Cheung Hing BBQ Seafood falls under the platform category of Chinese Restaurant, providing a diverse menu with a focus on both barbecue and seafood dishes, rooted in authentic Cantonese culinary traditions. Recent feedback suggests that Cheung Hing has undergone renovations, presenting a "newly renovated" space that is described as "brighter and very inviting," enhancing the overall dining experience for local patrons.
One customer's initial visit to Cheung Hing was serendipitous, occurring due to the closure of another nearby establishment. This accidental discovery proved to be a pleasant surprise, as they found Cheung Hing to be a satisfying alternative that catered to their "hungry appetites." The positive first impression was largely due to the appealing ambiance of the renovated space and the extensive menu that showcased "Cantonese menu specialties."
Among the dishes ordered during this visit, several stood out as highlights. The "Barbecue platter" was specifically mentioned, indicating a selection of their roasted and barbecued meats, a cornerstone of Cantonese cuisine. Another highly praised dish was the "eggplant with shredded pork clay pot style," a classic Cantonese preparation that emphasizes the savory flavors of eggplant and pork cooked in a traditional clay pot. The reviewer also noted that there were "many more" dishes ordered that contributed to the overall positive experience, reinforcing the breadth and quality of the menu offerings.
The general consensus from this initial encounter was that the "food entrees were great, authentic Cantonese food," assuring potential diners of the genuine flavors and culinary techniques employed at Cheung Hing. The reviewer explicitly stated that "the restaurant did not disappoint," a strong endorsement for the quality of their cuisine. Furthermore, the pricing was highlighted as "reasonable," and even "way cheaper than Golden Palace," suggesting that Cheung Hing offers good value for the quality of food provided.
Complementing the positive feedback on the food and ambiance was the mention of "excellent" service. The server was described as "attentive," indicating a focus on customer care and ensuring a pleasant dining experience. This combination of great food, a welcoming environment, and attentive service contributes significantly to a positive overall impression of Cheung Hing BBQ Seafood.
Another brief but impactful review simply stated, "Cheung Hing Restaurant got its groove back! Keep up the great work and customers will keep on coming 👍 😀 👌!" This enthusiastic comment suggests a potential revitalization or a consistent maintenance of high standards that is resonating positively with returning customers, implying a reliable and enjoyable dining experience.
However, not all feedback has been uniformly positive. One customer who ordered "bbq pork takeaway" provided a more critical assessment. They found the barbecue pork to be "a bit tough and fatty and sweet on the sauce." While they noted that it "tasted alright after heating them up," the initial experience suggests a potential inconsistency in the preparation or quality of this particular item. This feedback highlights the importance of considering all available reviews to get a balanced perspective on the restaurant's offerings.
Considering the available information, Cheung Hing BBQ Seafood presents itself as a Chinese restaurant in South San Francisco that offers a newly renovated and inviting atmosphere for diners. Their extensive menu features authentic Cantonese cuisine with a specialization in barbecue and seafood. Highlights from customer reviews include the barbecue platter and the eggplant with shredded pork clay pot, both praised for their quality and flavor. The prices are noted as reasonable, offering good value compared to other establishments in the area, and the service has been described as excellent and attentive.
While the majority of the feedback is positive, with emphasis on the quality of the Cantonese dishes and the pleasant environment, the comment regarding the takeaway bbq pork being tough, fatty, and overly sweet suggests that there might be some variability in the preparation of certain items. However, the overall sentiment points towards a restaurant that is well-regarded for its authentic Cantonese food and service.
For local users in South San Francisco looking for a Chinese restaurant specializing in BBQ and seafood, Cheung Hing appears to be a strong contender. The positive remarks about the renovated space and the extensive menu of Cantonese specialties make it an attractive option for both dine-in and potentially takeaway (though the one takeaway review offers a cautionary note on the bbq pork). The reasonable prices further enhance its appeal, especially for those familiar with the cost of dining in the area.

We stumbled in this restaurant because Golden Palace was closed ( WEDDING PARTY). THANKFULLY, Cheung Hing restaurant was there for our hungry appetites. The place is newly renovated, looking brighter and very inviting. The menu was extensive, entrees with Cantonese menu specialties. Highlights of our orders were the Barbecue platter, eggplant with shredded pork clay pot style and many more. The food entrees were great, authentic Cantonese food. The restaurant did not disappoint. The prices were reasonable, way cheaper than Golden Palace. Service was excellent, our server was attentive. Cheung Hing Restaurant got its groove back! Keep up the great work and customers will keep on coming 👍 😀 👌!
Order bbq pork takeaway. It was a bit tough and fatty and sweet on the sauce. It tasted alright after heating them up.
Roast duck, roast pork, and char siu are standards here. Can't go wrong with those (unless it's late in the day and it's been sitting out for a while).
First time ordering through Door Dash (that experience was fine, BUT...) the food arrived cold. Not just delivered-too-late cold. REFRIGERATOR COLD. ICE COLD. No utensils, no plates, no napkins, no extra soy sauce, nothing but cold pork and chicken and warm rice. Oh, and not the 'soy sauce chicken' we ordered, but apparently the boiled chicken I didn't order because it sounded gross. It was. The BBQ pork wasnt ribs, it was 1 inch squares of meat with bone in them.I realize that options are limited on Christmas Eve, but if you're going to be open, you really have to do better. Couldn't pay me to eat there again.
Decent food with a fair price (except mandatory 18% tip for even a small party). It's a typical Cantonese restaurant and other than Peking duck (Cantonese style), pretty good food. The Peking duck is not very crispy as it's a repurposed roast duck but it's decently priced so don't expect a real Peking duck experience. The frogs are fresh and very tender. The spareribs are tense and juicy so very delicious. Overall, other than the mandatory tip (I don't mind tipping but mandatory tip is always a no-no for me personally).
