About Cheong Gardens

Cheong Gardens is a Chinese restaurant situated at 265 Barbour St in Hartford, Connecticut. As a local Chinese restaurant, it offers a menu of familiar Chinese dishes to the community.

Based on available customer feedback, the dining experience at Cheong Gardens appears to be varied. One reviewer described it as a typical inner-city Chinese-style restaurant, noting its basic ambiance and reasonable prices. Among the dishes sampled, the Pork Egg Foo Young received a rating of 4, while the General Tso's chicken, Egg Rolls, and Fried Wings were rated around 3. The Pork Fried Rice, which accompanied the meals, was considered favorable but slightly dry. The Fried Wings were noted to be small and overcooked, and the General Tso's lacked spice and did not include broccoli or chilies as preferred by the reviewer. The Egg Rolls were also described as hard and dry.

Another customer reported a significantly negative experience, citing concerns about the environment outside the restaurant and a distressing incident involving a severe allergic reaction. This review mentioned a lack of restrooms and a cash-only payment policy. The customer also stated that peanuts were added to their daughter's food despite a specific allergy warning, leading to an emergency room visit. This individual strongly recommends against visiting Cheong Gardens.

The service at Cheong Gardens was described as friendly by one reviewer. However, it's important to note the reported issues regarding food preparation and allergen handling. The restaurant has a few tables available for dining in, but seating is limited.

In summary, Cheong Gardens offers standard Chinese cuisine in a basic setting. While one customer found some dishes satisfactory and appreciated the friendly service, another reported serious concerns about the environment, food quality, and allergen handling. Potential customers should consider these contrasting experiences when making a decision.

Decided to give them a try since they had good reviews. It's your typical inner city Chinese style restaurant, very basic and not to expensive. The Pork Egg Foo Young was a 4, but the General Tso, Egg Rolls and Fried Wings were 3ish. The Pork Fried rice that came with the meals was favorable, but a little dry. Wings were small and Fried to hard. Gen Tso lacked spice and I like mine with broccoli and chilies. Egg rolls were also hard and dry. Not a repeat for me with so many options. Looking to patronize more small businesses a few times a month. Friendly service, cash only, no restrooms, few tables for dining in.

THIS WAS HORRIBLE, there were crackheads and drug dealers outside, as a middle aged white woman with 7 kids, I felt endangered it was VERY different from my suburban neighborhood, the food was frightful, it tasted like good but it made my stomach hurt, I had diarrhea for the last 5 days! The people working there put peanuts in my daughter's when I SPECIFICALLY told them she was allergic and to recommend her something w/o peanuts!!! She had an allergic reaction and she had to go to the ER! 2 STARS, I DON'T Recommend!

They have definitely been falling off. Since when does a half chicken come with two bigas wings and no thigh. Starting to get old burnt chicken as well and chicken with ABSOLUTELY no seasoning on it at all. What do you think we just want crispy chicken and we're just going to put hot sauce on it or something....no we want seasoning!!!

Food is very good, they have good deals, and the lowest prices around. One of my favorite places since I've moved to CT. Customer service could be a little better but overall great place to eat.

I recently visited this establishment and I’m not going to lie me food was horrible. I ordered general tso’s and it was hands down the worst general tso’s I’ve ever had. My chicken was dry old and when I say old I’m talking as though it was a order somebody else placed and they decided not to get it and it was given to me and mind u I went in to place my order and I live like 5mins away from this place and when I reached home my food looked undesirable and tasted even worse. But this isn’t the first this has happened, but I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt but not again next time I’ll go somewhere else. And then they have the audacity to put the food online like it look good and that’s not the case.
