Customer reviews for Chen's Garden Restaurant offer significantly different perspectives on the food quality. One reviewer was extremely impressed with the oysters, describing them as the "biggest and best" they had had in a long time, which they found surprising for this type of establishment. However, this same reviewer was critical of the fried oysters and fried crab, stating they had "way too much breading" and were "way too greasy." They also noted a perceived decline in the preparation style of the fried crab compared to four years prior, which they felt was now "very heavily breaded."

In stark contrast, another reviewer reported a completely negative experience with multiple dishes. They stated that the lumpia was "not cooked all the way," the spare ribs were "too sweet and burnt," the fried rice was "not good at all," and the dumplings were "greasy and mushy." This reviewer indicated they would "not be going back ever."

Based on these reviews, Chen's Garden Restaurant in Chesapeake appears to have inconsistent food quality. While their oysters may be a standout item, there are significant concerns regarding the preparation of fried foods, with complaints of excessive grease and breading. Additionally, other dishes like lumpia, spare ribs, fried rice, and dumplings have received strong negative feedback for issues such as being undercooked, overly sweet, burnt, or having poor texture and flavor.

Information regarding the restaurant's environment, services (such as dine-in or takeout), additional menu features beyond the mentioned items, or any specific promotional offers is not available in the provided text. The reviews focus on the quality of specific food items.

Oh my God, the biggest and best oysters I've had in a long time. I never would have thought they would have come out of a place like this. However, the fried oysters and fried crab just aren't doing it for me. There is way too much breading and it's way too greasy. If you look at the pictures. The style they made the crabs 4 years ago look a lot better than the way they make them now. Very heavily breaded. This always

$16.00 for a Larger General Tao chicken w fried rice! On the menu the special is $8.75. And regular w white rice $11.50. Why I get charged $4.00 extra dollars for fried rice is crazy. Then once I pointed it out I got told I got charged $2.00 for fried rice. Crazy. This just for my ppl to be aware of how the lady w the glasses be trying to get over. This will be my last time eating here so giving you the extra $4.00 seem more like you needed more than me! Plus my honest review! I’ll never eat here again and I’m glad you for the little boy who was 10 yrs old from working the front!

The most horrible shrimp fried rice I've ever tasted. Just plain fried rice w/ onions and a few shrimp. No eggs, no bean sprouts, no peas and no carrots. Don't waste your $ in this place. Macs Chinese is right around the corner on Poindexter St. You won't be disappointed.
