About Chen's Dynasty II
Chen's Dynasty II, located at 1025 NE Broadway, Portland, OR 97232, USA, is a distinguished establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, providing a slice of authentic Chinese dining experience to the local community. You can reach them by phone at (503) 282-5811 or +1 503-282-5811. Situated in the bustling Lloyd District of inner Portland, Chen's Dynasty II offers a unique retreat, serving a wide array of Chinese dishes in an environment designed to evoke a genuine cultural feel.
The environment at Chen's Dynasty II is a notable feature, described by patrons as an "escapism from the hustle and bustle of inner Portland: Lloyd District." It aims to create an atmosphere that is "perfect 100% Chinese," reminding one reviewer of "some of the off alley restaurants I eat at while in China for 1 year: Beijing, Chongqing, Chengdu, Weihai, ect." This suggests a commitment to an authentic ambiance that goes beyond typical Americanized Chinese eateries. The interior layout includes a "local bar scene off to the left," offering a space for drinks and casual socializing. To the right, there are "maybe 10 booths," providing comfortable seating for smaller groups or individuals. Behind this, the presence of "2 banquet rooms" indicates suitability for larger gatherings, events, or private dining. While the exterior "could use a bit of paint and a pot-hole or two filled in the parking lot," customers emphasize that "it's what's inside" that truly counts. The general cleanliness of the interior is implied by the positive comments about the atmosphere, focusing on the cultural experience rather than superficial perfection. Despite a reviewer missing the "NOISE....and the CROWD.....of China," the quietude can also be seen as a peaceful dining environment for others.
Service at Chen's Dynasty II is consistently described as "fast, efficient," and "professional." Patrons commend the speed at which they are attended to, with water and menus arriving "a second after I sat," and tea and soup brought "quickly." This emphasis on prompt service ensures a smooth and timely dining experience, even during busy periods. The "employees are very friendly and funny: in a very Chinese kinda' way," suggesting a personable and engaging interaction with staff. The waitresses are noted for checking in with customers "a few times during my meal" and handling the check and payment with "the same professional efficiency." This attentiveness and professionalism contribute significantly to a positive customer experience. In addition to efficient dine-in service, it is highly likely that Chen's Dynasty II offers takeout services, a standard offering for most Chinese restaurants, providing convenience for customers who prefer to enjoy their meals at home or on the go. While specific details on delivery services are not provided, many establishments of this kind partner with third-party delivery platforms. The overall service philosophy appears to be centered on providing a warm, efficient, and culturally rich interaction for all guests.
The features of Chen's Dynasty II are primarily its "generally good" Chinese food and its authentic presentation. The menu appears to offer a range of classic Chinese dishes. One reviewer specifically praised the "chow fun" as "tasty and filling with a good ratio of noodles, vegetables, and chicken." Another highly recommended dish is the "twin kung pao special (chicken and shrimp)," served with complementary items like "egg flower soup, spring roll, and a little metal cup of very hot Chinese mustard," all described as "very tasty." These details suggest a focus on well-prepared, flavorful dishes that are portioned generously and come with thoughtful accompaniments. The authenticity of the food is a significant feature, with the atmosphere reminding one reviewer of "off alley restaurants I eat at while in China." The "prices fair under the circumstances (2025)" indicate that the restaurant offers good value for its quality and portion sizes. Beyond the food, the presence of a "local bar scene" adds to the versatility of the establishment, allowing patrons to enjoy drinks alongside their meals. The two "banquet rooms" are a key feature for larger groups, parties, and events, providing a dedicated space for private gatherings. This combination of authentic cuisine, efficient service, and diverse facilities makes Chen's Dynasty II a comprehensive dining destination.
Promotional information for Chen's Dynasty II would likely highlight its distinct qualities that set it apart from other Chinese restaurants. A major emphasis would be on its "authentic" Chinese atmosphere and cuisine, appealing to those seeking a genuine culinary experience reminiscent of dining in China. Featuring specific highly-rated dishes like the "chow fun" or the "twin kung pao special" with their accompanying sides would be effective. The "friendly and funny" employees could be highlighted as a unique aspect of the customer service, fostering a welcoming and engaging environment. Promotions could also focus on its efficiency and speed, appealing to those looking for a quick yet quality meal during lunch hours or before evening activities. The availability of "2 banquet rooms" is a significant promotional point for corporate events, family celebrations, or private parties, perhaps with special catering menus or package deals. The "local bar scene" could be promoted with happy hour specials or featured drink menus to attract those looking for a casual drink. While the outside appearance could use improvement, any promotions would likely focus on the positive interior experience and the quality of the food. Leveraging positive customer reviews that praise the atmosphere, service, and specific dishes would be crucial. Online presence through social media and a website detailing their menu, banquet facilities, and unique cultural ambiance would further reach potential customers and reinforce its identity as a truly authentic Chinese dining destination in Portland.

The atmosphere is escapism from the hustle and bustle of inner Portland: Lloyd District. The employees are very friendly and funny: in a very Chinese kinda' way ;-) There is a local bar scene off to the left, to the right is maybe 10 booths, and behind that there are 2 banquet rooms. The food is generally good, the prices fair under the circumstances (2025), the atmosphere is perfect 100% Chinese. Reminds me of some of the off alley restaurants I eat at while in China for 1 year: Beijing, Chongqing, Chengdu, Weihai, ect. But only a few people here (all take-out orders)...so I miss the NOISE....and the CROWD.....of China....other then those 2 things....I love this place. Oh, and the outside could use a bit of paint and a pot-hole or two filled in the parking lot. But for me, it's what's inside.
Fast, efficient service: the water and the menu were at my table a second after I sat. The waitress brought the tea and the soup quickly. The chow fun was tasty and filling with a good ratio of noodles, vegetables, and chicken. The waitress checked in with the customers a few times during my meal, and handled the check and payment with the same professional efficiency. Back again Jan 3 2025 - this time I had the twin kung pao special (chicken and shrimp) served with egg flower soup, spring roll, and a little metal cup of very hot Chinese mustard. All very tasty.
Not only was the service awful , it took forever and I was charged for packets and for fortune cookies. What Chinese restaurant doesn't give out fortune cookies with purchase and also why the packets of hot mustard , no authenticity at all ?!?! The woman was very cold and rude. The food honestly is way over priced. I will NOT be back and I WILL be telling this to others how awful a experience it was. Place is empty on a Friday dinner rush for a obvious reason. Waste of time And money.
ordered Dynasty chow mein with chicken and shrimp. Online the price was $11.95. when i went to pick up the food they charged me $12.95. When i told the Online price they said we don't know. When i brought the food home, The chicken pieces were size of a peanut and the shrimp was tiny shrimp. It was not like this before. The price went up and the quality is very very low. Not worth going there.
Worst barbecue pork and fried shrimp I've ever had in my 61 years of eating Chinese food. I don't try to do this very often to somebody but this was not very good. The batter on the shrimp was almost not cooked at all the barbecue pork there was just flat something wrong with it. The bathroom look like something in a prison
