About Chef Yang's BBQ

Welcome to Chef Yang's BBQ, a distinctive Chinese restaurant located at 10831 N Wolfe Rd in Cupertino, California. Specializing in expertly grilled BBQ skewers and other delicious offerings, Chef Yang's BBQ provides a unique and flavorful dining experience within the Chinese Restaurant category. This establishment has garnered significant praise for its exceptional BBQ, drawing comparisons to the satisfying experience of enjoying grilled skewers while watching Chinese dramas. Located in Cupertino, it offers a taste of authentic Chinese-style BBQ that keeps customers coming back for more.

The standout feature of Chef Yang's BBQ, according to enthusiastic customer reviews, is undoubtedly their BBQ skewers. One reviewer raves about the incredible taste, admitting they have "No idea what makes their BBQ so good, but it's amazing enough to make you crave it regularly." This strong endorsement highlights the addictive quality and unique flavor profile of their grilled meats. The desire for their seasoning blend further attests to the exceptional taste of their BBQ.

Customers have the opportunity to choose from a diverse selection of skewers, including beef, chicken, tofu skins, chicken skin, corn on the cob, mushrooms, croaker (fish), and lamb. The prices are considered reasonable, starting at $1.99 per skewer. This affordability allows diners to sample a variety of options without a hefty cost. The ordering process is described as "a breeze," utilizing a convenient barcode scanning system at each table, streamlining the customer experience.

The preparation of the skewers is consistently praised. Reviewers note that the foods and meats are "smoky, flavourful and delicious," indicating a mastery of the grilling technique and the use of quality ingredients. This emphasis on flavor and the smoky essence of the BBQ is a key draw for patrons seeking an authentic grilled experience.

The service at Chef Yang's BBQ is also highlighted as a positive aspect. Customers have described the service as "fast and prompt," with orders being brought to the table within approximately five minutes of each other. This efficiency allows for a smooth and enjoyable dining experience, especially for those eager to sample multiple skewer options.

However, one reviewer pointed out a potential drawback: the limited seating capacity. With only "a handful of tables" available, the restaurant tends to fill up quickly. It is strongly recommended to arrive early, preferably before 12 Noon, to secure a table and avoid potential wait times. This small size contributes to a cozy atmosphere but necessitates early arrival during peak hours.

Another point of feedback is that all the skewers are marinated with the same spices. While the initial taste is appealing, one reviewer noted that "after a while, they all tasted the same." They expressed a preference for some dishes to be seasoned simply with salt and pepper to allow the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through. This is a valuable piece of feedback for potential customers who prefer distinct flavor profiles for each skewer.

Despite this minor critique on the uniformity of the spice rub, the overall experience is highly positive. One reviewer aptly describes Chef Yang's BBQ as the "Chinese's version of Spanish tapas," emphasizing the concept of enjoying a variety of small, flavorful bites. While skewers are the primary focus, the restaurant also offers larger dishes for those seeking a more substantial meal. However, the reviewers who provided feedback primarily focused on the skewer experience and found it to be filling.

A group of three diners reported that their bill, including tips and tax, came to $70, providing a general idea of the cost for a party enjoying a significant number of skewers. This suggests that while individually priced reasonably, the total cost can add up depending on the quantity and variety ordered.

In summary, Chef Yang's BBQ in Cupertino offers a unique and highly enjoyable Chinese BBQ experience centered around delicious and flavorful grilled skewers. The service is fast and efficient, and the ordering process is convenient. The restaurant's small size necessitates arriving early to secure seating. While all skewers currently share the same marinade, the overall taste is exceptional, making it a place that customers "crave regularly." The concept is akin to Chinese tapas, allowing diners to sample a wide array of smoky and flavorful grilled meats and other items. Located at 10831 N Wolfe Rd, Cupertino, CA 95014, Chef Yang's BBQ is a must-try for those seeking authentic Chinese-style BBQ skewers in a vibrant and efficient setting.

No idea what makes their BBQ so good, but it's amazing enough to make you crave it regularly, especially when watching Cdramas that show people eating grilled skewers!! I wish they sold their seasoning blend. Everything there is delicious. Everything.

The Good: We ordered beef, chicken, tofu skins, chicken skin (not crispy as expected), corn on cob, mushrooms, croak (fish), lamb and steamed buns skewers. Prices are reasonable ($1.99 up per skewer). Ordering is a breeze (just scan the barcode at your table). Foods/meats are smoky, flavourful and delicious. Service is fast and prompt (they brought our orders within 5mins of each other). The NotSoGood: There are only a handful of tables in the restaurant, so go early (preferably before 12 Noon). They marinaded all the skewers with the same spices, so after a while, they all tasted the same. I would prefer some of the dishes to be with just salt and peppers. Take away: Think of this as the Chinese's version of Spanish tapas. There are also larger dishes to order, but we stayed with the skewers and were filled. Our bill came to $70 for 3 people (tips and tax included).

The food quality at this place has gone downhill unfortunately. Used to be our favorite skewer / chuaner place in the entire bay Area but the recent visit left me unimpressed. The mantou was coated with sugar while the beef / lamb skewers lacked flavor and lukewarm. Guo Bao Rou remained solid though.

Asian style skewers that were super delicious. There were also side dishes you can order. The lamb skewer is a must as well as the enoki bacon. Corn was a bit dry. Service was good. They took our order while we waited outside and it wasn't a long wait after we were sat. Be prepared to wait a bit as this place seems super popular.

This place is always packed, and yet it gets pretty bad reviews. I'm absolutely convinced it's a conspiracy by the regulars to scare away newcomers, because it's already way over capacity. Trust me, the skewers here are fantastic. But don't bother with anything else. The skewers are the main attraction. Don't waste precious empty space in your stomach on their side dishes when you could be stuffing your gob with even more skewers.
