About Chef Wang's Restaurant
Located at 1320 El Camino Real in Millbrae, Chef Wang's Restaurant presents a unique and intriguing offering within the Chinese Restaurant category. It distinguishes itself as an "authentically old-school Chinese-Korean eatery," suggesting a culinary fusion that blends the distinct flavors and techniques of both Chinese and Korean cuisines. This hybrid approach creates a dining experience that goes beyond typical Chinese fare, promising a diverse and potentially novel menu for local users.
One of the defining characteristics of Chef Wang's, according to a customer review, is their mastery of "burnt onion and burnt cabbage flavors," which are described as both sweet and savory. This indicates a specific cooking technique or flavor profile that is a signature of the restaurant and likely contributes to the uniqueness of their dishes. For those seeking bold and complex flavors that go beyond the ordinary, this emphasis on burnt vegetables could be a significant draw.
Adding to the restaurant's unique charm are the seasonal specials, which are reportedly written in both Korean and Chinese on place mats taped to the mirror walls. This detail not only highlights the dual culinary heritage of the establishment but also suggests a dynamic menu that changes with the seasons, offering fresh and potentially surprising dishes to regular patrons. The fact that these specials are presented in both languages underscores the authenticity and the blend of cultures at Chef Wang's.
Several specific dishes have garnered high praise from reviewers, offering a glimpse into the must-try items at Chef Wang's:
- Sizzling Rice Soup (누룽지탕): Described as "truly sizzles," this dish is noted as being "hard to find these days," suggesting it's a specialty that Chef Wang's excels at and that might be rare in other restaurants. The Korean name (누룽지탕 - Nurungjitang) further emphasizes the Korean influence on the menu and hints at the authenticity of this offering. Sizzling rice soup is known for its comforting broth and the textural contrast of the crispy, scorched rice.
- 깐풍오징어 (Gganpung Ojingeo): This dish, also referred to by its Korean name, is described as featuring calamari with a "thick crunch," tossed in a "sweet paprika sauce." This combination of textures and flavors – the crispy calamari and the sweet and slightly spicy paprika sauce – sounds like a compelling and well-executed dish that showcases the Korean side of the cuisine.
- 양장피 (Yangjangpi): This dish is lauded as "flavorful and refreshing," offering a "nice play on textures with raw cucumber, noodles, stir-fried pork and steamed shrimp." The description suggests a well-balanced dish with a variety of ingredients and contrasting textures. A notable aspect is the "Mustard sauce tossed in tableside," which is described as "a treat," indicating an interactive element to the dining experience and a flavorful addition to the dish. Yangjangpi is a Korean-Chinese dish known for its vibrant presentation and refreshing taste.

Good food, great value, and friendly service. It’s hard to find places like this still around! Love to stop in when I’m overnighting before the airport. Menu options and specials that are truly special.
Amazing family style dining. I'm just passing through because I live in another state . So sad they aren't closer to my home. Absolutely the best Chinese food
A very solid Chinese restaurant in the area! I really love their lettuce wraps as well as their hand pulled noodle soups! The atmosphere is basic but it gets the job done very well. The tables and cloths are a little worn. Service is very friendly and the waiter can make good recommendations!
Very delicious with reasonable price and staffs are very friendly. Couple of dumplings on the house is no longer secret.
