About Chef Wang

Chef Wang is a Chinese restaurant located at 1902 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, USA. As a Chinese Restaurant, it offers both dine-in and delivery services, with a notable focus on Sichuan cuisine, which one reviewer highlights as being a relatively rare find in South Shore Long Island.

The exterior appearance of Chef Wang might be unassuming, as one customer mentioned driving by many times without noticing it. However, the interior presents a different atmosphere, featuring a koi pond that suggests a more elaborate setting. The venue is described as spacious and comfortable, providing a pleasant environment for dining.

One unique experience shared by a reviewer involved attending a dinner at Chef Wang as an invited guest after a private event with the renowned pianist Lang Lang, whose father also joined the meal. While this guest did not peruse the menu and could not specifically name the dishes, they expressed enjoyment in each one, noting that a fish dish seemed to have a pork-based sauce.

In terms of service, opinions are mixed. One reviewer found the drink prices to be inexpensive, expressing surprise that the bar was not busier. However, this same reviewer pointed out a need for more frequent bathroom cleaning. Another observation regarding service was that it was slow, and plates were not changed often enough, with tea refills also being delayed. This suggests that while the ambiance might be appealing, there could be inconsistencies in service efficiency.

Regarding the food quality, one customer who dined at Chef Wang three times within a month in late October 2024 described the food as "really marvelous." In contrast, a long-term customer with over a decade of experience with Chef Wang, both dining in before moving to Long Island and primarily using delivery afterward, reported a significant decline in both the quality and quantity of the dishes. Their recent delivery experience was so negative that they stated it would be their last. Specific issues mentioned included a lackluster Beef Lo mein with an off color, General Tso’s chicken that was clumped with breading falling off and served with raw broccoli, and Sizzling beef that contained raw lotus root and cauliflower with sparse beef. While the Double sauté pork and beef in chili oil were described as decent but not as good as in the past, the fortune cookies were noted as being consistently good. This suggests a potential decline in food quality over time, particularly for delivery orders.

Based on the provided reviews, Chef Wang offers a spacious and comfortable dine-in environment with unique interior features like a koi pond and specializes in Sichuan cuisine. However, recent experiences indicate potential inconsistencies in service and a perceived decline in the quality and quantity of food, especially for delivery. No specific promotional information was available in the reviews.

One of the few restaurants in South Shore Long Island serving up exceptional Sichuan cuisine. 👍👍 Outside doesn’t look like much and I have driven by many times without giving the place a 2nd glance. Inside speaks differently as the Koi pond indicates. The venue is spacious & comfortable. I was an invited guest for dinner after attending a private event with Lang Lang the renowned pianist. His father joined us for dinner. 👏👏 I can’t really describe the dishes since I did not peruse the menu. But I did enjoy each one with a fervor. However, the fish dish did have a pork sauce I believe. Drinks are inexpensive so I’m surprised the bar isn’t packed. The bathroom does need a hourly cleanup as urine was still there 2 hours later. 😅😅 Service is slow and the plates were not changed often enough. Tea was slow to be refilled. Improvements can be made 🙏🏻 10/25/24 3rd time dining here in less than a month. The food is really marvelous. Venue can probably use some new upgrades & decor.

Over the past decade my family ate here many times, we dined in before moving to LI and after moving to LI we mainly got deliveries. Both the quality and quantity of the dishes greatly declined. Such a sad situation to see this restaurant in. This last delivery was the final straw, we won’t be ordering or eating at Chef Wang again. Beef Lo mein was very lackluster, even the color was off. General Tso’s chicken clumped together and the breading fell off on some pieces, the dish came with raw broccoli… at least boil it, it’s not that hard. Sizzling beef on the other hand came with raw pieces of lotus root and cauliflower with beef pieces playing hide and seek amongst piles of dried chili pepper. Double sauté pork and beef in chili oil were decent but just decent, much better back in the day. The only thing that stayed consistent in taste was probably their fortune cookies.

Hello! I’ve already been here SO MANY times, and I’ve always been satisfied. First, although the restaurant was super busy, we got seated quickly and were given free peanuts to enjoy while thinking of our orders. We were able to adjust the spicy level of our food to be less spicy. The food at this restaurant is ON POINT :D This time we got a nice spicy fish dish and a griddled pork intestines. Both came in a cool plating, where they put a small flame at the bottom to keep in hot (Don’t worry, the flame disappears later). We also got a beef noodle soup, which is one of my favorites. Of all the times we went to Chef Wang, some of my favorite dishes are the sesame chicken, fried rice, and sautéed string beans. Their Kani Salad is also super scrumptious. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Super delicious food, amazing service, and a nice atmosphere. Thanks! :D

Generally, this is a favorite restaurant on Long Island. The place is clean and the food is great. However, after five years of eating at this establishment, we encountered the rudest front of desk manager. My cousin brought her service dog which was actually in her right to do so. However, she would have willingly obliged to just leave the dog outside. The man was rude and screamed at her to get out. Later on, I tried to explain to him that he should have had a better attitude. He told me if I wanted a better attitude, I could feel free to go somewhere else. That's their customer service in a nutshell. Many of the employees saw the disturbance and secretly apologized. Apparently, he's rude to them too.

Everything is oily. I don’t know why they need to add such a large amount of oil. The bottom of the fried rice looks wet due to the oil settling on the bottom. There is a clear layer of oil on the chicken broccoli. Flavor is good though.
