About Chef Tony

Welcome to Chef Tony, a Chinese restaurant situated at 1108 S Baldwin Ave in Arcadia, California. As a part of the diverse Chinese Restaurant category in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area, Chef Tony offers a Cantonese culinary experience with a particular emphasis on fresh ingredients and a notable dim sum selection. This introduction aims to provide local users with insights into the environment, services, features, and any available mentions of value or quality based on customer reviews.

Based on the limited customer feedback available, specific details about the ambiance or decor of Chef Tony are not provided. However, one reviewer mentioned that the "food is fresh," which suggests a focus on the quality of ingredients used in their dishes. While this doesn't paint a picture of the physical environment, it implies a commitment to serving meals made with fresh components, which is a significant factor for many diners seeking quality Chinese cuisine.

In terms of services, Chef Tony offers a dine-in experience. One reviewer mentioned having dim sum off a "check list," indicating a specific method of ordering this popular Cantonese specialty. This suggests that customers are provided with a menu or list from which they can select their desired dim sum items, a common and efficient way to cater to individual preferences. The quick and attentive service often associated with dim sum ordering can contribute to a positive dining experience.

A key feature of Chef Tony appears to be its Cantonese cuisine, with a particular highlight on its dim sum offerings. One reviewer explicitly recommended getting the "sampler," describing it as a "decent deal." This suggests that Chef Tony provides a curated selection of their dim sum items in a platter format, potentially offering a good introduction to their range of small, flavorful dishes and providing value for the price. Dim sum is a significant aspect of Cantonese cuisine, featuring a variety of steamed, fried, and baked savory and sweet items, often served in small portions.

Another standout dish mentioned by a reviewer is the "cheong fun with shrimp," which was described as "really excellent," "fresh, steamy and chewy." Cheong fun, or steamed rice rolls, are a classic Cantonese dish, and the positive feedback here indicates that Chef Tony prepares this dish exceptionally well, emphasizing its freshness and appealing texture. The inclusion of shrimp as a filling further suggests a focus on quality ingredients in this particular offering.

Regarding pricing, one reviewer commented that the "prices are par for the course," suggesting that Chef Tony's pricing is in line with other similar establishments in the area. However, they also noted that the "portion for the steam rice rolls I thought was generous," indicating that while the overall pricing might be average, the quantity provided for at least one dish is considered substantial and offers good value. The positive mention of the sampler platter also being "good" in terms of value reinforces this aspect.

One reviewer offered a comparative perspective, stating that while Chef Tony might still use "a lot of MSG" and might not be as good as establishments in Vancouver BC (a region known for its high-quality Chinese food), it is "in general better than most other cantonese establishments in LA Metropolitan." This suggests that while there might be room for improvement in certain aspects (like MSG usage, depending on individual preferences), Chef Tony is still considered a superior option within the local Cantonese dining scene, indicating a certain level of quality and authenticity that sets it apart from competitors.

For local users in Arcadia and the surrounding Los Angeles Metropolitan area looking for a Cantonese Chinese restaurant, Chef Tony presents itself as a noteworthy option, particularly for those interested in dim sum. The availability of dim sum via a checklist ordering system, the positive feedback on the sampler platter as a "decent deal," and the highly praised shrimp cheong fun highlight specific strengths. The generous portion size of the steam rice rolls also suggests good value for money. While one reviewer provided a nuanced comparison to Cantonese cuisine elsewhere, their overall assessment positions Chef Tony favorably within the local context.

Dim sum off a check list. Get the sampler, decent deal. Also the cheong fun with shrimp is really excellent. Fresh, steamy and chewy. Prices are par for the course but the portion for the steam rice rolls I thought was generous and the sampler platter was also good

The dim sum by me closed down, so I was really happy to see that Chef Tony opened down the block. When I first saw it, I thought, Oh, another average dim sum place. I was so wrong! It really exceeded my expectations. The service isn't great but that seems to be the common theme amongst most Asian eateries is how much the servers cannot be bothered to be there. While it has standard menu items, there are also twists on the classics, like the Squid Ink Shrimp Dumpling. It drives me crazy that they're constantly out of certain items. But the flavors, creativity and freshness on the dishes can't be beat. I love the aesthetic and presentation. Their shrimp is literally the cleanest and freshest I've ever eaten at any dim sum place. It is hands down the best dim sum restaurant and has become my favorite as well.

We’ve been to the Pasadena location which closed. Saw the FB post which showed how they make Dim Sum fresh on premises. So wanted to try this branch. The Hot N Sour soup here is a miss. The rest was OK. Not sure we would come back. Lunasia and DTF fall more within the level of quality and taste we would recco. Service is good. Atmosphere is authentic but lacks ambiance.
