About Chef Tony
Welcome to Chef Tony, a Chinese restaurant situated at 555 N Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, USA. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Chef Tony specializes in Cantonese cuisine, with a particular focus on the popular dim sum experience, also known as yum cha. Conveniently located within the Courtyard by Marriott Monterey Park, Los Angeles, Chef Tony offers a dining option for hotel guests and local residents alike. For inquiries or to contact the restaurant, please call (626) 766-1919 or +1 626-766-1919.
According to customer reviews, Chef Tony presents a mixed experience. On the positive side, many patrons describe the dining atmosphere as welcoming and lively, with a service that contributes to a feeling of being at home. The hospitality is frequently highlighted as a significant strength of the restaurant, suggesting a friendly and attentive staff. For those seeking an authentic Cantonese yum cha ambiance, Chef Tony is noted for capturing this vibrant and sometimes noisy environment.
The dim sum offerings at Chef Tony are generally considered decent and are served promptly. This suggests that while the food might not reach exceptional heights for all diners, it provides a satisfying and timely meal, particularly for those looking for a casual dim sum experience. The restaurant is also praised for its cleanliness and convenient location, especially for guests staying at the Courtyard by Marriott.
However, there are also aspects of Chef Tony that have received critical feedback. One significant point of concern is the potential for long wait times, especially during lunch hours, where waiting for over an hour is not uncommon. The restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis for lunch, and reservations are not accepted, which can contribute to these delays.
The ambiance, while described as lively by some, is also noted for its high noise levels. This is partly attributed to the restaurant's high ceilings and the close proximity of tables, which can make for a loud dining environment. While some might see this as part of the authentic yum cha experience, others may find it less conducive to conversation and a relaxed meal.
Another area of concern raised by reviewers is the staffing and service efficiency. The restaurant is described as potentially understaffed, and many of the waiters are characterized as "green" and inefficient. This could contribute to slower service in certain aspects, despite the prompt delivery of the dim sum dishes themselves.
In terms of value, opinions vary. While some reviewers might find the dim sum to be good by Monterey Park standards, it is also noted that the prices are not particularly cheap. Furthermore, some customers feel that the overall experience, considering the wait times and service inefficiencies, does not justify lining up for an extended period. This suggests that while the food might be acceptable, the overall value proposition could be improved.
In summary, Chef Tony offers a convenient option for those seeking a Cantonese dim sum experience in Monterey Park, particularly for guests of the Courtyard by Marriott. The restaurant provides a welcoming and lively atmosphere with friendly service and decent, promptly served dim sum. However, potential diners should be aware of the possibility of long wait times, especially during lunch, the potentially noisy environment, and reports of understaffing and inefficient service. While the dim sum might be satisfactory, it may not be considered exceptionally priced or worth an extended wait for all customers. If you are looking for a casual dim sum meal in a lively setting and are prepared for potential drawbacks in terms of waiting and noise, Chef Tony could be a viable option. However, those seeking a quieter atmosphere, more efficient service, or exceptional value might want to consider other alternatives in the area.

Chef Tony Dim Sum offers a welcoming and lively dining experience, with service that makes you feel right at home. The dim sum is decent and served promptly, though the real highlight is the warm hospitality. Yes, it can get a bit noisy, but that’s part of the authentic Cantonese yum cha vibe! The restaurant is clean and conveniently located, especially for hotel guests. A solid choice for a casual, satisfying dim sum meal.
Chef Tony is the Chinese restaurant of Courtyard by Marriott Monterey Park, Los Angeles. There is no reservation for lunch, and waiting time can easily be over an hour. Although the hotel restaurant has a high ceiling, it is very noisy, because tables are packed closely together. In addition to being understaffed, most of the waiters are very green, hence inefficient. The dim sum dishes might be considered good in Monterey Park, but they are not particularly cheap, and definitely not worth lining up for.
This place is located inside Courtyard by Marriott and it fills up quickly. I waited 45 mins before opening to avoid further waiting. Upon seating and placing orders, it was another 45 mins wait but it was well worth it. Quality of their dim sum were amazing, mainly focusing on the natural tasting and freshly made products. Service however, it’s typical Chinese restaurants where they could care less.
Was excited to see Chef Tony's new restaurant. Nestled inside the hotels first floor is a very vibrant and promising looking restaurant. I went on an Saturday afternoon around noon. A solid 2 hours after opening. Food was mediocre, especially for the price. Most are trending towards $10 for what's considered a small dish at other dim sum restaurants. The quality of the shrimp dumplings and the shrimp rice noodle is good and the textures describes good cooking technique. The spare ribs were 100% overcooked. It tasted like it was steaming on high temperature. It was very chewy and tasted good but the meat was too hard to chew. It may be where we were seating (in the corner and not on a walking path) but the service wasn't as I thought it would be. We were constantly overlooked because there seems like there weren't enough servers. They were running around servicing others and I could only catch their attention once in a while to give my order to or ask to pay. When we were serviced by them they were accommodating and very polite. This may have been all a one time thing.
After touring all of the incredible Chinese restaurants in the area, this one was among, if not the top one. They make every dish fresh and it makes a huge difference. The Chef Special chicken is next level here and should not be missed.
