About Chef Co Restaurant
Welcome to Chef Co Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at 152 Haverhill St in Methuen, Massachusetts. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Chef Co Restaurant offers a variety of Chinese dishes, including options from a vegetarian menu. Based on recent online reviews, customer experiences appear to be divided, with positive feedback regarding the staff and some aspects of the food contrasted by significant negative feedback concerning specific vegetarian dishes.
One customer reported a positive first impression of Chef Co Restaurant. They were pleased with the friendly staff who assisted them in creating a combo plate. This suggests that the service at Chef Co can be accommodating and helpful, particularly for first-time visitors or those seeking recommendations. Furthermore, this reviewer found the food to be both hot and fresh, and importantly, tasty, leading them to believe they had found a new preferred Chinese food spot in the area. This positive anecdote indicates that Chef Co Restaurant has the potential to provide a satisfying dining experience with good quality food and pleasant service.
However, another customer who ordered from the Vegetarian Menu had a significantly negative experience. They ordered the General Gau's Tofu and vegetable fried rice (prepared without egg). According to this reviewer, the General Gau's Tofu was "awful" and not prepared correctly. They described the sauce as a very watery, buttery-tasting concoction that looked like watered-down apple sauce, a stark contrast to the expected dark, thick, and spicy sauce typically associated with General Gau's dishes. The reviewer was unable to eat the tofu, and even their coworkers who tried it agreed that it was terrible and nothing resembling General Gau's Tofu. This strongly suggests a significant issue with the preparation and quality of this particular vegetarian dish.
Adding to the negative experience of the vegetarian customer was the vegetable fried rice. They found the rice to be dry and possessing a "weird taste." Even more concerning was their suspicion that the rice contained a few pieces of meat, which would be a serious issue for someone ordering from the Vegetarian Menu. This raises significant concerns about cross-contamination or a lack of attention to detail when preparing vegetarian dishes. The overall experience for this customer was highly disappointing, leading to a strong negative review of their specific order.
Based on these two recent reviews, Chef Co Restaurant presents a mixed profile. On the positive side, the staff is described as friendly and helpful, and at least one customer found their combo plate to be hot, fresh, and tasty, suggesting that some of their non-vegetarian offerings might be well-received. However, there are serious concerns regarding the quality and preparation of at least one vegetarian dish, the General Gau's Tofu, which was described as "awful" and nothing like the expected dish. Additionally, there are concerns about the vegetable fried rice being dry, having a weird taste, and potentially containing meat, which would be unacceptable for vegetarian customers.
The reviews do not provide any information about the restaurant's environment for dine-in customers, the breadth of their menu beyond these specific dishes, or any particular features or promotional offers. Therefore, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive introduction that covers all aspects of the restaurant. The available feedback primarily focuses on the quality of specific dishes and the friendliness of the staff, with a notable discrepancy in the experience of a non-vegetarian versus a vegetarian customer.
For local users in Methuen, MA, considering Chef Co Restaurant, it is important to be aware of these recent, contrasting experiences. While the friendly staff is a definite plus, and some customers have enjoyed their meals, there appear to be significant issues with the preparation and quality of at least one vegetarian option. If you are considering ordering vegetarian dishes, particularly the General Gau's Tofu and vegetable fried rice, you might want to exercise caution or seek further clarification from the restaurant about their preparation methods and ingredients. If you are a non-vegetarian, the positive review of the combo plate suggests that there might be other satisfying options on the menu. As there is no information about the dine-in ambiance or any specials, your decision might be based on your dietary preferences and your willingness to potentially encounter inconsistencies in food quality. Tried this spot for the first time the other day and I was pleased! The staff is so friendly and helped me come up with a combo plate. The food was both hot and fresh AND tasty! I think we found our new go to Chinese food spot.
I ordered off of the Vegetarian Menu... I got General Gau's Tofu, and vegetable fried rice (with no egg). The tofu was awful. It was not made properly. It definitely wasn't General Gau's. Instead of being a dark, thick, spicy sauce, it was a very watery, buttery- tasting sauce. It looked like a really watered- down apple sauce or something. I couldn't eat it, and my coworkers tried it and said it was awful. This was not General Gau's! It was not even something close! So disappointing! As an aside, the rice was dry and had a weird taste. I swear that there were a few pieces of meat in there, too.
The food is decent a little cold I just feel that the price is a little bit much we didn't even get full with a combination plate.and there was no heat in the building so we had to eat are food in the cold restaurant.
We have been coming to this location for years and the food is always delicious. The staff are very friendly and approachable too. It is a go to spot for Chinese in the Merrimack Valley!
