The environment at Chao's Mongolian Grill offers a casual and interactive setting centered around the Mongolian grill concept. Customers proceed through a buffet-style setup to select their ingredients, which are then cooked on a large, flat grill by our skilled chefs. One reviewer noted that the restaurant has "so many options," indicating a wide variety of ingredients to choose from. For dine-in customers, Chao's Mongolian Grill offers the added benefit of a complimentary salad or soup to accompany their main course. While one reviewer expressed concern about the cleanliness of the floor under the table and the shared serving utensils at the buffet, another appreciated the provision of gloves for customers to wear while selecting their ingredients, highlighting a proactive approach to hygiene. The overall atmosphere is geared towards a customizable and engaging dining experience.
The service at Chao's Mongolian Grill appears to be efficient and customer-oriented. One reviewer mentioned that upon taking their order to go, they received two containers of yum yum sauce and a fortune cookie, which are appreciated complimentary additions. For dine-in customers, the process involves a clear and structured approach: first, you select your choice of meat, followed by vegetables, fruits, and eggs. Then, you choose your sauce in a separate ramekin and indicate whether you prefer noodles or rice to accompany your stir-fry. After your customized bowl is assembled, it is taken to the grill for cooking, and you are given a number to identify your dish when it's ready. This system suggests an organized and efficient process for handling the customizable orders. The positive feedback regarding the extra sauces and fortune cookie indicates a thoughtful approach to customer satisfaction.
A primary feature of Chao's Mongolian Grill is the extensive variety of fresh ingredients available for customers to create their own stir-fry. As mentioned by one reviewer, "They have so many options here," allowing for a highly personalized meal tailored to individual tastes and dietary preferences. This interactive aspect of selecting your own meats, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and sauces is a key draw for many diners seeking a unique and customizable dining experience. The separation of sauce selection into a ramekin ensures that the raw ingredients are not pre-mixed with sauces, allowing for a cleaner buffet experience and greater control over the final flavor profile of the dish.
The cooking process on the large Mongolian grill is another distinctive feature. Customers can watch as their customized creations are expertly stir-fried by the chefs, adding an element of entertainment to the dining experience. This method of cooking allows for a fresh and hot meal, cooked to order based on the customer's selections. The combination of fresh ingredients and the interactive cooking process makes Chao's Mongolian Grill a unique offering within the Chattanooga Chinese restaurant scene.
While one reviewer found the food to be "divinely delicious" and highly recommended the restaurant, another expressed concerns about the hygiene of the buffet setup, mentioning the shared utensils and the potential for contamination. This feedback highlights a potential area of concern for some customers regarding the self-serve nature of the Mongolian grill. The provision of gloves for ingredient selection is a positive step towards addressing these concerns, but the experience may still vary for individual diners.

Customer Reviews
They have so many options here. It’s sooo good. Honestly one of the best restaurants in Chattanooga. They give two yum yum sauce to go and a fortune cookie. Love that they have gloves to wear at the buffet. Wish the bowls were more dry when you pick them up from the buffet, kind of find that disgusting. If you eat in they offer salad or soup with your main course. You pick your meat first, then the veggies, fruit, eggs, then pick your sauce in a separate ramakan, then they ask if you want noodles or rice. After that it’s cooked and you are given a # for your dish. Overall this food is devinely delicious. Definitely recommend.
For the price of food, one expects a fancier sophisticated place. The floor under the table was dirty. The food laid out that everyone picks out, does not look appetizing, and everyone touches the same serving utensil. I would expect one to easily pick up some bug or virus. My tummy felt queasy when I got home and had the runs.
The food is delicious! The staff is helpful, friendly, and courteous I love being able to choose exactly what I want in my meal. I feel like I'm eating healthy, but my food is delicious! (Not always the case when food is "healthy") The portions are definitely adequate. We eat here regularly and we enjoy it every time! Thanks for doing such a great job, everyone!
Excellent food. Always fresh and cooked to order. I highly recommend the Bourbon sauce. The way it works is you fill a bowl with meats, veggies, and spice. Then you choose a sauce and a starch (noodles, fried rice, steamed rice, etc.). Then they cook it fresh and bring it out. Lunch also includes a soup. This is one of our favorite places in Chattanooga. Highly recommended!
Went to Chao's Mongolian Grill for lunch today with a craving for Korean food, and they did not disappoint! I'm not usually one for super adventurous dining, but their menu had some great-sounding options. I ended up trying three dishes: the ja jang myun, the tang su yuk, and the kan poong ki. The ja jang myun was fantastic – thick, black bean noodles with a rich, savory sauce that hit the spot. It felt perfect for a cooler day. The tang su yuk blew me away – crispy pork belly with a sweet and tangy sauce that was both delicious and visually appealing. Finally, the kan poong ki offered a nice kick of spice – shredded chicken with scallions in a flavorful sauce – a great way to round out the meal. Each dish had its own unique flavor profile, and the portions were generous! I left feeling satisfied and happy with my choices. Overall, Chao's Mongolian Grill gets a full 5 stars from this satisfied customer. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was casual and inviting, and the menu offered a great variety of Korean dishes to explore. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a flavorful and satisfying lunch!
