Customer Reviews
We went in this restaurant randomly during my business trip. Wow, this is a authentic Chinese food hidden gem in DC downtown. Surprisingly, the Yang Zhou fried rice is the best I ever had in US. Especially, the shrimps are close to crystal, not over cooked like the majority of US Chinese restaurants do, and not smelly. Pot stickers are crispy and just right. Soup is tasted, so as the sweet sour rib. We ended up revisited twice during my 4 days stay in DC. Great environment, nice services. Price is not the lowest, but acceptable. For fact, it's better Chinese food than what's available in Chinatown. Don't miss it.
As someone who is Chinese and holds high standards for authentic cuisine, I can confidently say this place delivers deliciously authentic Chinese food. I’ve visited several Peter Chang restaurants, but I assessed this one on its own merits. For our table of three, we ordered quite a bit because the dishes were genuinely delicious. Most impressive was the outstanding service. Although the restaurant wasn’t packed, the staff were incredibly attentive, and each dish we ordered arrived within five minutes or less. My favorites were the cold lotus root dish and the egg and tomato dish, which was truly authentic, delicious, vegetarian, and not spicy. The crispy beef, seafood fried rice, and Dan Dan noodles were particularly fantastic. The crispy cumin fish, three-spice chicken, and cumin beef were very good too, making for an overall excellent dining experience.
Great Dining Experience at Chang Chang! I recently dined at Chang Chang, and it was a great experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting and stylish, setting the perfect mood for a memorable meal. Food: The menu is a delightful fusion of flavors, showcasing both traditional and contemporary Asian cuisine. We tried the Sichuan Spicy Dumplings and the Korean BBQ Beef, and both were outstanding. The ingredients were fresh, and each dish was a harmonious blend of spices and textures. Service: The service was impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and made excellent recommendations, ensuring our dietary preferences were met without compromising on taste. Ambiance: The decor is modern with a touch of traditional elegance, making it a great place for both casual dining and special occasions. The lighting and seating arrangement added to the overall comfort and aesthetic appeal. Value: While on the higher end, the prices are justified by the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. You get what you pay for – a top-notch dining experience. In summary, Chang Chang is a gem for anyone who appreciates fine dining with a creative twist on Asian cuisine. I highly recommend it and look forward to my next visit!
Nothing exciting or groundbreaking, lack of flavor to the dishes was overcompensated by too much salt. Overly accommodating to local preferences, if I tried some of the dishes without knowing the cuisine, I wouldn’t have even guessed they were Chinese. I’ve never been a fan of chain restaurants and this just proved why I shouldn’t bother. Service was great, atmosphere a bit bland and canteen -like. Definitely not worth a second try
As a food critic with over 10 years of experience, I can confidently say that Chang Chang is a standout in Washington, D.C.’s vibrant dining scene. Located just two blocks south of Dupont Circle, this restaurant masterfully blends traditional Chinese flavors with modern culinary innovation. From the moment my date and I arrived, the service was impeccable—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. The ambiance struck a perfect balance between elegance and comfort, setting the stage for an unforgettable meal. We began with the Cantonese Spring Rolls and Shrimp Dumplings. The spring rolls were crispy and light, filled with a savory mix that was both familiar and refreshingly new. The shrimp dumplings were delicate parcels of perfection, each bite bursting with fresh, succulent shrimp. The Mala Crispy Pork Belly was a revelation. The pork was tender with a satisfying crisp on the outside, and the mala seasoning provided that signature Sichuan heat and tingle, a nod to Chef Peter Chang’s roots in Wuhan and Chengdu. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Kung Pao Wagyu. This dish took a classic and elevated it to new heights. The Wagyu beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, harmoniously paired with a sauce that was spicy, sweet, and umami-rich. It was a dish that exemplified the restaurant’s ability to honor tradition while pushing culinary boundaries. Chang Chang is more than just a restaurant; it’s a family legacy. With Peter and Lisa Chang’s decades of culinary expertise and their daughter Lydia’s vision, the establishment offers a dining experience that’s both authentic and contemporary. Pastry chef Pichet Ong’s influence is felt throughout the menu, promising a sweet finish that complements the savory journey. In a city filled with dining options, Chang Chang stands out for its exceptional cuisine and outstanding service. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the true depth and breadth of Chinese cuisine. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to explore more of their exquisite menu.
