About Cassia

While listed under the category of a 'Chinese Restaurant' on some platforms (which appears to be an error), Cassia, located at 1314 7th St in Santa Monica, CA, is highly praised for its phenomenal and flavorful Southeast Asian cuisine. Customers consistently rave about the taste and quality of the food, describing it as bursting with flavor, spiced correctly, and even having a homey feel.

Popular dishes mentioned in reviews include the Chickpea Curry, Mapo Tofu, and Kaya Toast, all noted for being very delicious. The menu is described as creative but not overly complex, with a focus on bold and consistently tasty flavors. One long-term customer, who has visited multiple times over the past five years, affirms that the food is always "on point" and considers Cassia a go-to spot in Santa Monica for reliable and delicious meals.

However, some feedback indicates that the service can be "a bit interesting," with one reviewer feeling somewhat rushed despite available space in the restaurant. While this seems to be an area for potential improvement, it doesn't overshadow the consistently positive remarks about the food itself.

A pleasant surprise for some diners is that the pricing was not as high as initially expected, which is considered a nice plus. However, another reviewer noted that while the restaurant is "totally worth it" for special occasions like date nights or celebrations, it might be a bit pricey for weekly visits.

A notable feature mentioned by a returning customer was a surprise of complimentary desserts at the end of their meal, described as a "sweet touch," indicating that the restaurant occasionally offers such gestures. While no consistent promotional information was available in the provided reviews, the positive experiences with the exceptional food suggest that Cassia offers a worthwhile dining experience for those seeking creative and flavorful Southeast Asian cuisine in Santa Monica, particularly for special occasions.

This could've been a 5 stars but the service was a bit interesting. I'll start with the positives though. Phenomenal food!! The Chickpea Curry, the Mapo tofu and the Kaya Toast were all very delicious. Everything was bursting with flavor, was spiced correctly and just felt so homey. Honestly, everyone should eat here because the food is that good. Where things were lacking though was the service. It seemed like we were being rushed and there was so much space still available. I do have to say, it wasn't as pricy as we thought it was going to be either which was a nice plus.

Cassia is such a solid spot—I’ve been maybe 5 times over the past 5 years, and the food is always on point. The flavors are bold, the dishes feel creative but not over-the-top, and everything’s just consistently tasty. Last night, they surprised us with some complimentary desserts at the end of the meal, which was such a sweet touch. The only thing I’d say is that it’s a little pricey, so maybe not an every-week kind of place, but totally worth it for a nice date night or celebration. Definitely one of my go-to spots in Santa Monica when I’m looking for something reliable and delicious.”

The food was good (can be described as modern asian) but a little too spicy. Service was mediocre. Had to ask several times for simple things. Loved the atmosphere and the vibe. Can’t stay much more. Overall worth a visit but I wouldn’t return.

If you like big, bold, spicy flavors, this is the place to visit! From the Singaporean Chili Crab to the Spicy Minced Duck Dan Dan Noodles, the dishes felt like an endless explosion of spices. And yes, the chef brings the heat. We also had the Crawfish Toast which was sweet and savory and the Kon Loh Mee which had a great, smoked char siu mixed in. Overall a great meal and probably the best I've had in LA. Definitely worth a visit if you like spices!
