About Cantonese Express

Welcome to Cantonese Express, a Chinese restaurant located at 2106 Jefferson Ave in Newport News, Virginia. As a cornerstone of the local dining scene, Cantonese Express offers a variety of Chinese dishes for both dine-in and takeout customers. With a phone number of (757) 369-0569 and a mobile number of +1 757-369-0569, placing an order or making inquiries is convenient. Cantonese Express aims to provide a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine to the Newport News community.

Based on customer feedback, the experience at Cantonese Express appears to be varied. One reviewer mentioned ordering the Chicken Lo Mein and House Yok. They noted that the Lo Mein was different from the typical version but not unpleasant. The House Yok, however, required the addition of vinegar to enhance its flavor. A significant point of concern for this reviewer was the quality of the meat, described as odd, unseasoned slices, with the exception of the shrimp, which they found satisfactory. Ultimately, this customer resorted to eating mainly the shrimp, noodles, and sauce, suggesting a potential inconsistency in the meat components of some dishes. They indicated that future orders might be limited to shrimp or meatless options. On a positive note, this reviewer highlighted the plentiful portion sizes for the price and the cleanliness of the lobby area. However, they also pointed out an unusual practice regarding condiments, where customers were given family-sized bottles for immediate use at their tables rather than individual to-go packets. Most concerningly, this reviewer reported experiencing significant digestive issues for two days after eating at the restaurant.

In stark contrast, another long-time customer shared a deeply positive experience, stating they have been patronizing Cantonese Express since childhood and continue to enjoy the consistently great food. This reviewer emphasized that the taste has remained unchanged over the years, evoking a sense of nostalgia and reliability. They expressed hope for the restaurant's continued success so that future generations can also enjoy the same culinary experience, indicating a strong emotional connection and loyalty to Cantonese Express.

Considering these contrasting reviews, potential customers might find it beneficial to approach Cantonese Express with an open mind. While one review raises concerns about food quality and hygiene, the other speaks to a long-standing tradition of consistent and enjoyable food. The mention of generous portion sizes at a reasonable price point could be appealing to budget-conscious diners. The clean lobby area suggests an effort towards maintaining a presentable environment for customers who choose to dine in or pick up their orders.

The service aspect, particularly the handling of condiments, seems to be an unusual practice that might not appeal to all customers, especially those preferring the convenience of individual packets for takeout orders. The significant health concern raised by one reviewer is a serious issue that potential customers will likely consider when making their decision.

Cantonese Express operates as a Chinese restaurant, and their menu likely includes a variety of popular Cantonese and other Chinese-American dishes in addition to items like Lo Mein and Yok. Customers can likely expect standard offerings such as fried rice, chow mein, various meat and vegetable stir-fries, and perhaps some soup and appetizer selections. Given the positive feedback from the long-term customer, it is plausible that certain dishes are consistently well-prepared and have garnered a loyal following.

For local users in Newport News, Cantonese Express presents itself as an established option for Chinese cuisine. The restaurant's longevity, as indicated by the returning customer's review, suggests a history within the community. However, the recent negative review regarding food quality and hygiene cannot be ignored. Potential customers might want to consider trying some of the dishes specifically praised or perhaps inquire about the preparation methods for items that have received negative feedback. It might also be prudent to observe the restaurant's current hygiene practices if choosing to dine in or pick up an order.

As an objective introduction based on the available information, Cantonese Express offers a mixed picture. While it has a long-term patron who speaks highly of its consistent quality, a recent review raises significant concerns about food quality and potential health risks. The restaurant offers dine-in and takeout services and is located conveniently on Jefferson Avenue. The portion sizes are noted as generous for the price. However, the unusual condiment policy and the serious health complaint warrant careful consideration from prospective customers.

Currently, no specific promotional information is available in the provided data. To learn about any special offers, discounts, or new menu items, it would be best to contact Cantonese Express directly via phone at (757) 369-0569 or +1 757-369-0569. Local users may also want to check online review platforms for more recent feedback to get a broader understanding of the current customer experience at Cantonese Express.

In conclusion, Cantonese Express is a Chinese restaurant in Newport News, VA, that has served the community for many years, according to one reviewer. However, recent feedback indicates potential issues with food quality and hygiene that should be taken into account. Customers seeking Chinese cuisine in the area may want to weigh the positive sentiments of long-term patronage against the serious concerns raised in a more recent review before making a decision. Further investigation through direct contact or by consulting other review sources might be beneficial.

I STRUGGLED with what to put in this review! We ordered Chicken Lo Mein and House Yok. This is definitely not your typical Lo mein, but wasn’t bad. The Yok also wasn’t bad, but I had to add vinegar to help it out. The meat (except the shrimp) was odd little unseasoned slices/slivers and were not appetizing at all. I ended up just eating the shrimp, noodles and sauce. Next time, I’ll just get shrimp or no meat at all. The portion sizes were plentiful for the price and the lobby was clean. Also, when customers asked for condiments, they were given a family-sized bottle to put on food right then and there and were directed to give it right back versus having condiments to go. However, I think the most important part for me was that after eating here, we could barely leave home for 2 days, because we had to stay near a toilet.

Been coming here since I was a child and Im an adult now. Every single time the food is great and never changes! every bite is the same from when I first started coming as a child. I pray they stay in business forevere so that other children can experience the same that I have. This restaurant will always have a place in my heart.

•This no doubt be an old school restaurant, but, it's uniqueness in food is far beyond the norm - has been for years. •No hard to chew food (like No. 1 kitchen's General So's Chicken), (etc.) just very good flavor. •I hope that the people in this restaurant never leave. •The cooks got the skills!! •It's a shame that they can not expand productivity when they get really busy, but, it's worth the wait!!
