About Canton Phoenix

Welcome to Canton Phoenix, a Chinese restaurant located at 14455 SW Pacific Hwy in Portland, Oregon. As a local Chinese Restaurant, Canton Phoenix aims to provide a range of Chinese culinary options for the community, catering to both those who prefer to dine in and those who opt for the convenience of takeout. You can reach Canton Phoenix at (503) 620-3536 or their mobile number, +1 503-620-3536, to make inquiries or place an order.

Based on customer reviews, the environment of Canton Phoenix appears to offer a unique experience, particularly for those who choose to dine in. One reviewer mentioned eating in the "lounge" area and noted that their visit coincided with an "open mic event." This suggests that Canton Phoenix might host or be located near a venue that features live entertainment, which could contribute to a lively and perhaps unpredictable dining atmosphere. The reviewer indicated that this type of entertainment was "not my jam," implying that the ambiance might not appeal to all customers, especially those seeking a more traditional or quiet dining setting. However, for those who enjoy a more vibrant and potentially musical backdrop to their meal, the lounge area could be an interesting feature.

In terms of services, Canton Phoenix offers both dine-in and takeout options. The positive review of the "salt and pepper squid" specifically mentions ordering "to go," indicating that their takeout service effectively maintains the quality and crispiness of the food. This suggests that Canton Phoenix is capable of providing well-prepared meals for customers who prefer to enjoy their food off-premises. The other review mentions "service was ok" for dine-in customers, but also notes that "food arrived slowly," although the server did apologize for the delay. This suggests that while the service might be adequate, there could be occasional issues with the speed of food delivery, particularly during events or busier times.

The features of Canton Phoenix seem to include specific dishes that are highly regarded by some customers. The "salt and pepper squid" is explicitly praised as "legit," "flavorful," "crispy," and of a "good portion." The reviewer also appreciated that the restaurant uses actual squid rather than cuttlefish, highlighting a commitment to ingredient quality for this particular dish. This positive feedback suggests that Canton Phoenix excels in preparing certain seafood dishes. Additionally, the mention of a "dim sum menu" indicates that Canton Phoenix offers a selection of these small, Cantonese-style dishes, although one customer expressed disappointment that a specific item, "beef tripe w/ginger and scallions," was no longer available.

The customer who experienced the open mic event described the food as "mediocre." This contrasts with the other reviewer's high praise for the salt and pepper squid. This discrepancy in food quality perception could be due to variations in individual tastes, the specific dishes ordered, or inconsistencies in preparation. The reviewer who found the food mediocre also mentioned that the "prices are reasonable," which could be a positive factor for budget-conscious diners, even if the food quality did not fully meet their expectations.

The overall "vibe" of the restaurant, as perceived by the customer who dined in the lounge during the open mic event, was "not my jam." This reinforces the idea that the atmosphere at Canton Phoenix can be influenced by external events and might not be suitable for all preferences. Customers seeking a traditional Chinese restaurant experience might find the lounge setting and potential for live entertainment to be a deviation from the norm.

Regarding promotional information, the provided data does not contain any specific details about current specials, discounts, or promotions offered by Canton Phoenix. Customers interested in learning about any ongoing offers or special menu items are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly at (503) 620-3536 or +1 503-620-3536. They may also be able to inquire about the schedule of any live events or the availability of specific dim sum items.

In conclusion, Canton Phoenix in Portland, Oregon, offers a mix of Chinese cuisine with both dine-in and takeout services. A standout feature appears to be their "salt and pepper squid," which has received high praise for its flavor and preparation. The restaurant also seems to have a lounge area that occasionally hosts live events, creating a unique but potentially polarizing dining atmosphere. While one reviewer found the food to be mediocre and the service somewhat slow, the reasonable prices might appeal to some. Customers seeking a specific dish like the salt and pepper squid or those who might enjoy a dining experience with live entertainment could find Canton Phoenix worth a visit. For the most current information on their menu, promotions, and event schedule, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

Salt and pepper squid is legit. Flavorful, crispy, (despite ordering to go) and a good portion. They actually used squid as opposed to other places that use cuttlefish which is never as good. If you need to satisfy your SPS craving this is the place 👍🏼. Sad they don't have the beef tripe w/ginger and scallions on the dim sum menu anymore, but the SPS makes up for it and is worth the visit.

This Chinese restaurant transported me back in the day when I first went into a Chinese restaurant. We ate in the lounge. We came there when it was an open mic event. Not intentionally. So we were listening to different groups performing songs. That was not my jam. Service was ok. Food arrived slowly. However, our server apologized for the food coming out slow. Prices are reasonable, and the food was mediocre. Overall, it's not the vibe.

I want to give credit to the very friendly person who took my order. However, the food itself was extremely disappointing and made almost everyone in my family sick—except for the two people who didn’t eat it. The most alarming part was finding a large piece of plastic inside one of the meat-filled buns. I have no idea how such a big piece of plastic wrapping ended up inside the bun, sticking out. This raises serious concerns about the restaurant’s food handling and safety standards. I spent over $80 on this meal and even left a $10 tip, despite it being a takeout order. Unfortunately, we had to throw everything in the trash because it was completely inedible. I do not recommend this place, as the food quality and safety issues were unacceptable.

Atmosphere is wonderful! Karaoke, pool, slots and plenty of seating for everyone. This place is drastically dragged down by the service people receive. Bartenders serve people who have been waiting 2 minutes before the others who have waited over 15mins. After I placed my food order I was surprised and disappointed to learn the person before me waited over 30mins to get their burger and fries. “The line is short!” Only because people at the back leave and don’t come back. If you come make sure you’re not hungry or interested in drinking more than two drinks for night. This place has so much potential but the service has me questioning if I’ll come back.

Food was dry, tasted burnt, really horrible. Soup had no taste at all. Very disappointed. $24 for the noodles. Terrible. Would not recommend and will not order from here again.
