About Canton Express Restaurant
Canton Express Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at 102 Bangor St, Augusta, ME 04330, USA. Operating under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," it serves the local community with a variety of Chinese cuisine. For orders and inquiries, they can be contacted at (207) 623-0039 or their mobile number +1 207-623-0039.
Based on recent online customer reviews, Canton Express Restaurant presents a somewhat mixed but generally positive impression, particularly regarding its value for money and certain signature dishes. One long-time customer shared a nostalgic view, mentioning past enjoyment of their beef teriyaki and fried rice. However, their most recent visit in their birthday week of 2024 resulted in disappointment, to the extent that they did not even want to keep the leftovers, ultimately giving them away to someone in need. This suggests a potential decline in the quality of some dishes over time, at least according to this individual's experience. Despite this, they still rated Canton Express as "better than that crappy Great Wall Buffet," indicating a comparative perspective within the local Chinese dining scene.
In contrast, another reviewer focused on the exceptional value offered, especially highlighting the "absolutely great portions of foods for your buck" on their all-day lunch menu. This customer emphasized the importance of finding affordable yet satisfying meals when eating out and found Canton Express to be a place that delivers on this aspect. They specifically praised the lo mein as "one of the best tasting in the area," noting that the food is served hot, appetizing, and with great taste. While they mentioned that some dishes, like the chow mein stir fry, might be perceived as a little bland by some, they also pointed out the option to request adjustments from the chef or add soy sauce to personal preference.
This same reviewer highly recommended the boneless ribs (specifically mentioning item L6, which includes pork lo mein and boneless ribs) for their generous quantity, char, and delicious chunks, emphasizing a "smoky flavor" that they have rarely found elsewhere and considered "done very well here." They also lauded the chicken teriyaki as "just as delicious." This customer concluded by affirming that Canton Express provides "a great meal at absolute great price," encouraging support for local Maine businesses and recommending others to try their food.
Considering these reviews, the environment of Canton Express Restaurant is not explicitly detailed. The mention of takeout (implied by the leftovers) and dine-in (the reviewer eating lo mein at the restaurant) suggests that they cater to both preferences. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the food and its value rather than the ambiance or décor. Therefore, local users should likely prioritize the food quality and portion sizes when considering a visit.
The services offered at Canton Express Restaurant include both dine-in and takeout. The positive review mentions ordering lo mein and presumably eating it at the restaurant, while the negative review discusses taking food home as leftovers. The service seems to be efficient enough to provide hot and appetizing food. The reviewer who found some dishes bland also mentioned the possibility of asking the chef for adjustments, indicating a degree of flexibility in catering to customer preferences. The availability of an all-day lunch menu suggests a focus on providing affordable options throughout the day.
A key feature of Canton Express Restaurant appears to be the generous portion sizes offered, particularly on their lunch menu, providing good value for money. Specific dishes that receive positive mentions include the lo mein (described as one of the best in the area), the boneless ribs (noted for their smoky flavor, generous quantity, and delicious char), and the chicken teriyaki. While one long-time favorite, the beef teriyaki, seemed to have declined in quality according to one reviewer, these other dishes stand out as popular choices. The menu likely includes a range of other standard Chinese-American dishes, though specific details are not provided in these reviews. The willingness of the kitchen to potentially adjust seasoning levels is also a notable feature.
Currently, the most prominent promotional aspect mentioned is the "all day lunch menu" which offers "absolutely great portions of foods for your buck." This suggests that customers can enjoy more affordable prices and substantial servings by opting for items from this menu, regardless of the time of day. No other specific promotions, such as discounts for certain days or order sizes, are mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in further details about the menu or any other potential specials may need to contact the restaurant directly.
In conclusion, Canton Express Restaurant in Augusta, ME, offers a mixed experience based on recent customer reviews. While a long-time patron expressed disappointment with a former favorite dish, the restaurant is generally praised for its generous portions, particularly on the all-day lunch menu, and its overall value for money. Specific dishes like the lo mein, boneless ribs with a distinctive smoky flavor, and chicken teriyaki are highlighted as delicious. The service seems efficient, and the restaurant caters to both dine-in and takeout customers. Local users looking for substantial portions at reasonable prices, especially from the lunch menu, and those interested in trying their acclaimed lo mein or boneless ribs, might find Canton Express Restaurant a worthwhile option. However, it's also prudent to be aware of the potential for inconsistency in quality based on past experiences shared by some customers.

I used to love this place. I loved the beef teriyaki and the fried rice… Last time I was there was my birthday week 2024 and unfortunately I wasn’t a fan anymore. It was pure disappointment. I didn’t even want to bring it to my friends house for leftovers but I had so much food left some random person was asking for money but instead I gave him my leftovers he was super happy. I was super happy I didn’t waste all that food. I wonder what happened to this place. I will say still better than that crappy Great Wall Buffet. But any place is better than that
Absolutely great portions of foods for your buck especially on an all day lunch menu! I try to go to the best food for your buck especially eating out now a-days can add up pretty quick. I find that their lo mein here is one of the best tasting in the area. The food comes out hot, appetizing and great tasting . Some may find it a little bland in their foods like in the chow mein stir fry but one can always ask the chef or add a little soy sauce to your dish. Any hew, the boneless ribs here for eg. L6 : Pork lo mein, boneless ribs are generous in quantity , char and delicious chunks. It has the smoky flavor which I have not found often anywhere else. It is done very well here if this is something you like. Their chicken terriyaki are just as delicious. Overall a great meal at absolute great price! Again you know my motto: support local Maine businesses. Go and get some today .
I recently moved to the Augusta area and have been looking for decent Chinese food takeout. So far, Canton Express has been my favorite pick. Quick service and food is pretty good. I particularly enjoyed the boneless ribs and Asian wings. The pork fried rice could use a little improvement but not bad. Chicken fingers, however, were overcooked and very hard both times I ordered them. Overall, pretty good and I will be back to try other menu items.
Tried to order and the person was so rude and pretended to be confused. Couldnt even order without getting attitude. I asked what comes in a platter and he goes “um the regular stuff that goes in a platter?” Just didnt want to order because he sounded mad at me and i was trying to order food.. Just making this clear, i didnt grt the food because i couldnt get pass the ordering process because the guy who took my order Food might have been ok But super unprofessional and i want someone who cares to make my food at least
