About Calanley Somali Restaurant

Calanley Somali Restaurant, located at 3149 Cleveland Ave, Columbus, OH 43224, offers Somali cuisine. You can contact them at (614) 263-3530 or +1 614-263-3530.

Based on customer reviews, Calanley Somali Restaurant provides a mixed dining experience. The staff is generally friendly and accommodating, particularly to first-time visitors, and they are willing to help customers try a variety of dishes.

The restaurant offers a selection of dishes, including goat kebabs, beef tips, and chicken kaykay, which some customers have found enjoyable. The portions are described as large, and the meals come with extras such as juice, salad, soup, and bananas.

However, there are significant concerns regarding the authenticity and quality of the food. Customers have noted that the "injera" served is actually a flour tortilla with grill marks, rather than traditional fermented flatbread. The beef is described as tough and chewy, and the white sauce served with the dishes is reportedly watered-down miracle whip or salad dressing.

The restaurant is also criticized for being overpriced, with customers feeling that the quality of the food does not justify the cost. Some customers have reported that the food is overcooked.

While the service is generally positive, the inconsistencies in food quality and authenticity have led some customers to state they will not return.

Delicious food!! They seemed surprised we came in to eat, and it was our first time trying Somali food. But they were very accommodating and helped us try a lot of different things! Portions are large and the extras (juice, salad, soup, bananas) were awesome. We got the goat kebabs, beef tips, and chicken kaykay. All were yummy! Will definitely be back!

We ordered 1 goat with anjera, 2 kay kay with chicken, one beef suqaar with anjera (pictured). Price is $68 ($17 per meal average). Thoughts: -I am familiar with injera, according to the web “anjera” is also a fermented flat bread. What I received (pictured below) is a flour tortilla with grill marks. There is no debate about that, it is not any type of house made, fermented bread. -the quantity of the beef is good! It tastes fine. It was very hard and chewy. -everything comes with a white sauce. It is very apparently miracle whip (or “salad dressing”) which has been watered down to a pourable consistency. -they gave us one small cup of lentil soup to share with 4 plates. It was good. -each plate comes with a banana. Summary: tortilla, not anjera $17 a plate Overcooked We really want to like this place. We were excited to get it but it’s super overpriced for what you get and not as advertised. We won’t come back for what we got.

Tried this restaurant for the first time. Upon entering I was skeptical about eating there because of the disorganization and many flies. I stayed because the reviews I read were good and my wife is Somali and has been adamant about me trying Somali food since she cant cook it😂. The service was decent and the food was delicious. I loved the soup. It was my first time trying camel and it reminded me of pot roast. It was a bit dry but still good. I would have preferred it simmering in some gravy and poured over rice with sweet peppers😁.The beef was good and seasoned well. The spaghetti was just right. I would give 5 stars but the restaurants appearance is unappealing.

I personally loved this little place. I'm totally unfamiliar with Somalian food and I loved it. I got the beef kaykay. I love that they serve each meal with a banana.

Folks complaining might’ve visited a different restaurant. Try the MUUFO and ask servers how it’s consumed. It’s literally food porn. Don’t get addicted folks!
